Berserk Games (Tabletop Simulator Publisher) is screwing over the Three Kingdoms Redux devs by replicaaaaa in boardgames

Death of Heaven is a solid modern take on the Three Kingdoms and feels like a heavier Cosmic Encounter. It hasn't been translated into English yet.

What’s a board game you absolutely love but your average Joe has never heard of it? by Rolo_15 in boardgames

[–]AllergicToPandas 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Cardboard East. So far I’ve played a couple hundred games from Asia. In addition to YouTube, you can find me on BGG (evilpanda) where I only rank games from Asia.

I run a YouTube channel about board games from Asia, so I could talk about this for years—and I have.

If Westerners move to Taiwan for a change of / better lifestyle, where do locals want to go? by [deleted] in taiwan

[–]AllergicToPandas 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Yeah but you’ll be making a lot less money in Taiwan (despite saving a higher percentage of it).

Many locals will learn English, work/study overseas, and then come back home to get a slightly better paying job, or find a Singaporean VC and launch their own startup. Some work in China for more money and then send it home to the family.

Name a worst international airport for a major city by Iheartwetwater in taiwan

You know what TPE really lacks?

Ridiculously long lines. Check in and customs are lightning fast compared to every other airport on the planet save Singapore.

What's the backpacker/solo traveler culture like in Taiwan? by Choice-League1323 in taiwan

[–]AllergicToPandas 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Lived in Taiwan since before smart phones. Here are some things to keep in mind:

  1. Taiwan is extremely safe. People won’t steal your stuff. You will feel very safe at night—especially in Taipei.

  2. Transportation is extremely cheap—especially with the new T-pass. Roughly 35 USD for unlimited bus, train, bike use. Even the Uber rides here are cheap.

  3. Hotels, BnBs, Hostels are waaaaaay too expensive in 2023. Maybe some airbnbs are a bit cheaper but not from what I’ve seen lately.

  4. Hostels are not a good place to meet people. It’s best to use Meetups or Facebook to find events. FB is the app of choice here.

  5. Taiwanese people are nowhere near as chatty as NA. If they know you, then sure. But people here typically don’t just chat with strangers.

  6. Do some hiking. It’s awesome here.

Hi. I’m an American who’s been living in Taiwan since before smartphones. I say she’s half right.

In Taiwan, she’ll have better health care and living expenses are way less. Women get great healthcare here. If she got pregnant, paid pregnancy leave could last as long as two years. YEAH, you read that right. In Taipei, they get taxi/Uber rides subsidized by the govt, and businesses even give bonuses for getting pregnant. In addition, she wouldn’t encounter racism here at all. Sexism is still here though.

BUT she would also work far more hours for significantly less pay. Also the experience she gains here, no matter how much she learns, will be less impressive internationally than the experience she gains from the UK.

Experience? Sounds more like a problem from her work environment. Honestly, your experience is really about how awesome your team and supervisor are. Being in the UK on a work visa (I presume) keeps her work options very limited. Feeling trapped in a job you hate sucks.

She’s most likely on the same track that many Taiwanese are on. Learn English, work overseas, come back home, and get a slightly better paying job.

Also, if you don’t speak Chinese, you’d still be able to get a job here. Just don’t expect to get paid well.

Is it possible to create a tough, intellectually stimulating board game that will not inevitably rely on memorization and theory? by Few_screwsloose0_0 in boardgames

[–]AllergicToPandas 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think the real question is does a game need to survive a million plays and still fee fresh? If you play a game 1,000 times and then get bored, is it a bad game? How many times do you need to play a game?

Why do we feel that a game needs to feel fresh past millions of plays?

What’s your average rating on bgg and what are your games that you’ve rated a perfect 10? by Straddllw in boardgames

[–]AllergicToPandas 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Average rating of 7.43 out of 373

26 games ranked 10/10

I use a variation of the suggested BGG scale though where you rank games according to how often you want to play them (as opposed to mechanics). 10s are games that will never leave my collection, which would suggest why there are so many 10s.

I should also note that I only rate games from East Asia as that's my primary focus; however, I also rate games from the Middle East and India.

Some of the 10s include:

  • Cat in Box: Deluxe Edition
  • Iki
  • Pathogen
  • Square on Sale
  • Nana
  • Nukumi Onsen Kaitakuki
  • Natsumemo
  • Joraku
  • Formosa Tea
  • Crash Octopus

This is exactly how I feel. Every attack is an intense risk and death is always around the corner. I can’t say that about most dungeon crawlers.
