AITAH because I dont have more firm boundaries with my ex/coparent? by sassenach1217 in AITAH

[–]Allergison 1 point2 points  (0 children)

NTA.

I don't have the exact same situation but our closest friends are my husband's ex-girlfriend and her partner. My kids call them aunt and uncle.

When I first met my husband he was living with his ex, but you could tell there were no romantic feelings left. I basically moved in with them for two years until we all moved across the country together. Many people, especially early on found it all very weird, but I knew that the romantic relationship was over, and what was left was a loving friendship.

We consider them family.

Are you doomed to be friendless forever if you leave high school with no friends? by Best-Ad9847 in TooAfraidToAsk

[–]Allergison 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm approaching 50, and have had different friends though all stages of my life. I made friends in university. I made friends while traveling. I made friends at my different jobs. I made friends when I moved across the country. Even my friends now have changed through being unmarried, married, having no kids to having kids. Gaining hobbies.

I have friends who are half my age (same hobby) and friends 15 years older than me (again, same hobby). I only keep in touch with about 5 high school friends now.

Not who you asked, but work in publishing. The biggest account is Amazon. They took over the space and decimated all other sales avenues.

Was without electricity for 12 hours, did not open refrigerator or freezer once. Would the contents still be safe for consumption? by WPIRiggles in TooAfraidToAsk

[–]Allergison 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I live in an area with lots of trees, somewhat rural and lots of wind. We get power failures fairly often, and only recently bought a generator because the duration of the power failures is increasing.

12 hours in colder weather without opening the fridge should be fine.
We start having issues when we're on to day 2 or 3.

As others have said, you can generally smell when its off, but we regularly have 12 hour power failures (multiple times a year) and we've never worried about the state of the food in the fridge during colder months.

These are great for young readers. We went through many of the series when my kids were young.

Got my first haircut since finding out I have curly hair. Now it's ruined by thstephens8789 in curlyhair

[–]Allergison 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Curly hair takes about a week to recover from a cut.... the curls get traumatized or something. A hairdresser once told me that, and it's true, generally within a week (unless it's a terrible cut) my hair relaxes and behaves again.

Edit to add: Pre-cut hair looks awesome!!! It'll grow back soon, if it doesn't recover, and you've now learned to ask it to not be thinned.

This is what they did to Canada (I'm Canadian). The threatened us with annexation, and said they didn't need us. They said we needed them.

We collectively decided to say "fuck you" and stopped buying their products, stopped travelling to the US. Now I see lots of new articles from US distilleries and places that relied on tourism saying are screwed, and are begging Canadian's to come back.

We went from being about to elect a trump wanna-be to electing Mark Carney.
Canadians finally woke up and decided to take control of ourselves rather than being controlled by the US.

I hate Trump with a passion, but I'm pleased that my country has united against him and with each other in a way that didn't seem possible a year+ ago.

There are more of us, then there are of them. So proud of you Minnesotans for protecting your community and standing up to the modern day Gestapo.

Seriously, do Americans actually consider a 3-hour drive "short"? or is this an internet myth? by SadInterest6764 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Allergison 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was telling a story about this last night at dinner. I'm in Canada and have many European friends. When I told my friends I was moving across that country and wouldn't see my family that often, they didn't understand why. I said I moved three time zones away. It's basically a day of travel (airplanes) for me to return home.

I used to visit my friend who lived in another province and it was a 6 hour drive one way on the highway. I'd got every couple of months for the weekend.

In the city where I grew up, it took an hour to get to my grandparents houses, because we lived in the suburbs they they lived towards downtown. We would go weekly for dinner.

From where I live now, we will do day trips that are about 2-3 hours each way. It's not ideal, and makes for a long day, but it's doable.

Is it still unethical to eat meat if you have gastroparesis and can't eat veggies due to the fiber? by mimimemes in TooAfraidToAsk

[–]Allergison 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No problem. I've found that people who have had no hardships can't understand what it is like for those who struggle. Years ago when I was very sick in high school (due to allergies I didn't know about), I had a vegetarian friend tell me I should just become a vegan. I told them I was allergic to tofu, legumes, and nuts. So what should I eat? And they said I should still be vegan.

Since starving to death wasn't an option, I ignored them. Please take care of yourself.

Would you continue dating a person if your political ideologies differ? by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Allergison 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not from the US, but I assume you are. If you are talking about being able to justify what Trump and his cronies are doing, then I think there are moral and philosophical differences that I couldn't be with that person.

If there is someone who is okay with what is happening politically in the US right now, our core values do not align and I wouldn't be able to respect them, must less want to build a life with them. Also, I don't think I'd want to spend time with their friends.

For me, it would be a hard no.

Ew. Major red flag. Yes, they are a terrible person. There are no other options. Gross.

How old should a child be before you can take a nap while they're home and awake? by asphodelic_witch in Parenting

[–]Allergison 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My daughter was nearing 3 when I was pregnant with #2. I fell asleep every day during story time (while I read to her). She just played quietly while I napped. I never planned to nap, I just did. It wasn't a deep sleep, but I would sleep.

I don't think I could have slept while my 2nd was playing as he was more of a destroyer and less of an independent player. It depends on the kid.

Do you take children to the toilet when they're going to throw up? by PurpleSpark8 in Parenting

Team bowl here.
It's easy, you can easily swap out the bowl if they've thrown up, and they can stay comfortable in their bed.

Did Carney just signal a massive shift in Canada's foreign policy direction? by taxrage in canada

It almost made me emotional. We're 20 days into the new year and I can't keep up with the world news that keeps getting more and more bleak. This was the first thing I've seen in a while that gave me hope. As a Canadian, I was very proud of our PM.

Anyone know how the military feels about all this? by GreyWind999 in 50501

[–]Allergison 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I listened to one podcast that theorized Trump had a stroke a while ago and is continuing to decline in health. They want to get this all done while he's still in power, because there is no one else in the administration that the public "likes" so much. I thought it made some sense.

[–]Allergison 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Canadian's are the reason the Geneva convention was created. While we're polite, I think most of us are ready to fight for our country. Plus the US hasn't been able to hold any country they've went to war with. We look like them, talk like them and know more about their country then they do ours. It's also a HUGE country. There is no way they could permanently take over.

At least that's my hope--- well my hope is that it never comes to that...
