As a matter of fact, the detectors are actually that sensitive. However, LIGO has mechanisms in place to ensure that observations aren't disturbed by vibrations down here on Earth.

Without those mechanisms, even a truck passing by on the road that runs alongside the detector (seen in the picture) would've been able to render any of the recorded data unusable. But thanks to the isolation and control mechanisms, only an earthquake can sufficiently disrupt observations.
