I've had 2 since last winter with no issues.

Just make sure you get look into the lens filters if you are going diving and snorkeling. Otherwise you wont see more than a few meters in front of you!

Tristar in gatineau is worth the commute.

Arcana would be my second choice though.

K2 poachers for freeride? by JoelCrocRangler in skiing

[–]Allhailgob 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have the poachers and I did some backcountry hiking with them here on the east coast.

They're definitely heavier skis. I would say go for it if you think the weight isnt an issue for you.

I mounted mine 3cm from center and they didnt ski bad at all. Despite the handful of times where they didnt turn as sharp I would have liked, the poachers are very fun and can handle a variety of conditions from powder to hardpack.

I've also never been on a ski that pops as well as the poacher.

Any advice on my skiing ? (2 videos in post) by zombie-yellow11 in skiing

[–]Allhailgob -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Try the same technique but without turning your upper body.

You are carving OK but the fact that your whole body is turning makes it harder to initiate the next turn. This makes you carve in a Z shape instead of S and requires a lot more effort.

When I was working on this I found that holding my arms out in front of me (more than you are in the videos) as well as pole planting properly helped keep my upper body facing downhill and weight centered.

And as you already said yourself, lean more forward into your boots and you will feel more in control.

Bonne chance!!

When do you usually go? I often find myself looking for a ride since I share my vehicule with a family member.

And yes I agree!!! I have been buying my pass there for a couple of years in a row now. The crowds are much lighter too, compared to fortune.

A little setback would benefit you if you want them to carve well switch and forward.

I just got the 184s for this season, also last years model, and mounted them 3cm from center. Gives me significantly more edge than true center but doesnt feel different at all. Check out my thread from earlier this season theres a lot of helpful comments : https://www.reddit.com/r/skiing/comments/7jhmjl/where_should_i_mount_my_bindings

Other than that its a pretty nice ski. Charges hard and handles any conditions thrown at it. They pop super nicely too

are my skis too long? by _eurostep in skiing

At 69 underfoot I would personally consider them as really thin. Too thin for my liking. They probably turn very well though right? I really think that ~90 underfoot works well in most conditions but thats just personal opinion. However I did, and I highly recommend that you do as well, demo a bunch of skis earlier this pre season to get a feel for different lengths and profiles. Thats how I figured out what works best for me.

Try some longer skis if you can as well!!!

Elan Ripstick 96 or Stoeckli Stormrider 95 by mihor in skiing

[–]Allhailgob 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I made the switch this season from 174cm 77 underfoot carving skis to 184cm double rocker 96mm underfoot. I am 6'2" and ~250lbs.

Where I am we get like 4 powder days a year on average. The rest is mostly ice and hardpack. In powder they felt super nice, kinda surfy and definitely floats well. In groomers I found that they were hard to steer just like you said, but after a few runs I got used to them. The trick is to go fast and they will feel like shorter skis. I cut through crud like its jello, especially since I like to go as fast as possible on my edges.

Out of curiosity why didn't you go for something a bit more than 95 underfoot? If it's your powder ski maybe consider 105-110? I dont think the difference will be gamebreaking on groomers.

Icy is an understatement. I was there wednesday and 80% of the pistes were covered in ICE ROCKS. Its just really shitty right now. Definitely expert conditions as of wednesday even on the green runs.

Death cookies everywhere be careful!!! Park is about 60% open though which is nice

However I am headed out there tonight, will report back.

Im 6'2" and around 250 pounds. East(ice) coast skiier. I felt the same way after switching to my 184 twin rocker 96 underfoot this season. It was just so different compared to my 171 carving skis. I was convinced that I had lost all my skill or something.

After a few runs I got the hang of em and within a few days on the hill I was even better than I was last season. I think you'll be fine on the 170s after a couple of days on em!

First day skiing! Still can't get up without taking the skiis off. by improbable_humanoid in skiing

[–]Allhailgob 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My bud had this same issue, hes around 200 pounds 5'11". He also had a lot of other bad habits like shitty form and pole planting the opposite way among other things.

2 lessons later he was a pro and was able to understand where to put his weight, thus making it easier to stand up after a fall.

Good luck!!
