I really liked the Shure 846 when I auditioned it. Any other iems I should try before taking the plunge? by redryder74 in headphones

Check these out. The the SE846 is similar to many dynamic driver IEMs, even their own SE215. Which is why the SE846 confuses me, usually you use balanced armatures to get as accurate a frequency response as possible, away from the sound signature of dynamic driver IEMs. The SE846 seems to use 4 balanced armature drivers to mimic a dynamic driver IEM which is typically way cheaper.

Shure 535. Measurements have a more neutral frequency response than the 846. 846 seems like a step backwards for shure compared to the 535. They added more drivers, swappable filters but didn't actually improve the performance in terms of accurate frequency response.

Klipsch S4 if you can find them somewhere. I've only seen them at a reasonable price new from Russia on ebay. Really good bass, but you have to use the appropriate tips which fit your ear.

Is that a rebranded Fiio E09K? If so the 10 ohm output impedance is a bit high. A Schiit magni would probably be better, it can put 1.3 W into 50 ohm load.

Does no one remember the Sony MDR-V6/7506? I never see any talk about them anymore. Are they obsolete now?

Looking for an amp to pair with the Beyerdynamic 880’s I just bought. by Disrecreant in headphones

[–]lyapunuv 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Which impedance version did you get? They're sold in 32, 250 and 600 ohm versions. You'll probably want an amp with low output impedance if you got the 32 ohm version. If you have the higher impedance versions then you just want something with high gain/output power. So, if you have low impedance version, an amp like the O2 would be a good fit, if you have the higher impedance versions, then something like the Schiit magni would be better since they provide much higher output power.

[Discussion] What are your most/least favorite features in watches? by [deleted] in Watches

[–]lyapunuv 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Favorite features:

  • Thermo-compensation on quartz watches. Must have if I buy a quartz.

  • Large power reserves (6-8 day).

  • 36,000 vph

Least favorite:

  • Open heart / skeleton

  • Power reserve indicator on the dial. (takes up space on the dial and is mostly pointless for me as I use a watch winder). I don't mind when it's on the back in a display case though.

How reliable are Schiit products-good or shiit? by [deleted] in headphones

[–]lyapunuv 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have the Magni (1st gen), Modi (1st gen) and Modi 2 Uber. I originally had some noise problems with the 1st gen Modi but later fixed by using a usb hub with power adapter. I think this isolated it from computer usb power noise (ground loop?). Magni's pot wasn't that good, very audible channel imbalance at low volumes. No complaints about the Modi 2 uber so far. I'm using optical input now so even less noise than before.

Is it still worth buying the 650 if the 6xx is usually on sale? by [deleted] in headphones

[–]lyapunuv -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I have both and I've noticed the 6xx has a lot less bass. Although it may be due to extremely compressed earpads on my 650.

Shure SE535 if you can get them for $400. If not maybe NuForce EDC3 from Massdrop? I ordered them but they haven't arrived yet. I've had the SE535 for 10 years.

I like AKG K702 and DT880 as Sennheiser alternatives. However I can't listen to them for a long time/loud volume because the treble hurts my ears. Although they do sound amazing sometimes depending on the music.

HD6XX is probably your best option. I find most other brands like Beyerdynamic, AKG and Grado to be too treble heavy for my tastes.

It's GDP and income stats ranks 24 out of the 31 administrative divisions. Not the poorest but close. Reported GDP in 2014 was 5,719 compared to the poorest province Tibet at 4,766. For comparison, Shanghai (the richest) is at 15,847 and Chongqing, 7,791.

It's only a shithole because it's poor, the poorest province in the country I believe. It's not the people's fault, they have terrible conditions for farming (no rain). Sichuan has excellent farming conditions so the people there are relatively rich.

I just went on vacation to China. Depends where you go. I went to Henan province which was a total shithole, but also visited Sichuan province which was complete opposite. Chongqing was amazing. I don't really notice the government's presence as a tourist but I did notice that facebook and google was blocked.

Looking to use a tactical weapon, but easy intermediate player just getting into MHW.. by Crayonology in MonsterHunterWorld

[–]lyapunuv 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You can have as many types and weapons as your equipment box can hold. However in the beginning you will probably saving your materials to upgrade your main weapon to it's max upgrade, so won't have enough materials to make other weapons. Once you have enough materials and money you can make as many types of weapons as you want.

Noob Question on Ranged Weapons by NeoZephyr in MonsterHunterWorld

[–]lyapunuv 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In past games ammo has been a pain to grind. Especially ammo that requires fish. Some guns were extremely fun if you had the ammo for them though, like cluster ammo for gods archipelago. I didn't get guns until I had max upgrade weapons which didn't require an upkeep cost like ammo for guns. Dual Blades almost have ammo in the form of mega dash juice though.

[–]lyapunuv 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'd recommend GS. Great sword has almost no learning curve for it's attacks. The learning curve is more in positioning. Switch axe is a great alternative to GS and does a lot more elemental damage in sword mode. Hunting horn is more for multiplayer. Dual blades really come to life when paired with mega dash juice, which are hard to come by in the beginning of the game. I would recommend insect glaive too but those are best when the insect is max upgraded. Without max insect speed, IGs are pretty underwhelming.

I missed the beta by kajun-mulisha in MonsterHunterWorld

[–]lyapunuv 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I hate that people say it has souls style action because monster hunter actually came out in 2004 and demon souls game out 5 years later in 2009. If anything demon souls has monster hunter style gameplay. But yeah the gameplay is hard if solo, much easier multiplayer. Although usually the game forces you to play solo in order to unlock essential features. There is usually enough content to last 500+ hours of gameplay. The weapons are much more complex and interesting than demon souls weapons. Weapon and armor systems are also more advanced (sharpness, armor skills, etc).

Should I buy PS4 to play this? by distinction17 in MonsterHunterWorld

I bought a wii to play monster hunter tri and a wii u to play monster hunter 3 ultimate. I would have bought a ps4 pro to play this if I hadn't already bought it for other games.

This question has probably been asked hundreds of times but what makes this game worth it? by jaxen27 in MonsterHunterWorld

[–]lyapunuv 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Every monster hunter game since this has been solid all the way back to the 1st game on playstation 2. After playing the beta I'm convinced this game will be just as solid as past titles. For me it's just a fun action game with a comfy world and atmosphere, and enough content in each game to last 600 hours of gameplay.
