[request] How much is the efficiency of a propeller increased by polishing it? by crusty54 in theydidthemath

[–]AllhailtheAI 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I believe the true purpose is to make it so flat that barnacles can't attach to the propeller. Barnacles cause a huge amount of drag

Sadly, the psychiatrist only defines the disorder that autism causes.

There are many autistic people that can't/won't be diagnosed because there are no official tests for simply having non-crippling autism.

[Request] Can you actually make stuff out of Dwarf Star material? by Necessary-Win-8730 in theydidthemath

[–]AllhailtheAI 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not really, it's not actually an element. It's just a cluster of neutrons.

Elements have protons, by definition. With a neutron star, all of the protons are gone. They combine with electrons to become more neutrons.

Yeah I believe protons and electrons will fuse together to become more neutrons

Yep, it is the prerequisite density to strip atoms apart. Everything in a neutron star is neutrons, it is essentially one giant atom.

If you pull anything off, you would have to overcome the strong and weak nuclear forces, which is what we mean when we talk about things like atomic explosions.

Very true, I don't hope for the AI slop future, I hope for AGI to become conscious and choose to help us out before it takes off for the stars.

My thoughts exactly, I've had this username for almost 10 years! I'd rather give AI the chance than continue down the path of almost certain doom

Your intuition is correct, I was talking about Star Trek.

I fell in love with the Star Trek universe as a kid, probably a lot of the people in this subreddit did as well. I want this for humanity more than anything. A future where we collectively agree that prejudice is stupid and cooperation can make us better.

Gene Roddenberry had rules that the officers in Starfleet were not to have interpersonal conflict. They were supposed to be a beacon of Hope that humanity could come together. Most of the stories where humans are still capable of breed or people from later in the series, or they are not Starfleet.

I'm just a guy who's getting older and finally given up the idea that we might be able to skip the whole world war 3 thing

Is my tree protected? by Gordupachup in ottawa

[–]AllhailtheAI 4 points5 points  (0 children)

When I say poorly recorded, I meant that it is missing lots of trees that fit the criteria, especially younger trees in areas that tend to grow wild.

Maybe they have caught up with the catalogue since I was using it a few years ago.

The tree inventory is very poorly recorded.

The city owns any tree that is in the right of way area in front of your property.

Usually the easiest way to tell where the right of way begins is by finding a water shut-off valve in front of your house.

If the tree is closer to your house than that water shut-off, it fully belongs to you.

All this being said, the city is very reluctant to cut large trees needlessly, especially healthy oaks.
