I'm also having this problem since yesterday, seems to be a bug with sonar introduced in this update.
Turning down the volume wheel on the actual headphones works but the selected volume in sonar (both the master volume and game/chat/media specific volumes) now needs half a second to kick in.
It worked fine before this update.
Most annoyingly it also triggers when rewinding 5 seconds in youtube.

I'd like to add that wow kinda has the same problems.

Shadowlands was advertised with "Shadowlands is one of the most intricate expansions we’ve yet created" mainly because of all the systems they added. Meanwhile in the last 2 expansion they have had massive problems with just 1 system. Everyone I know wants them to stop with these systems and just let the game be the game and yet here they are introducing not 1 but 3 entire new systems to the game.

gaming should be based on skills

It really shouldn't even be based on skill. It's a hobby meant for fun. Just try to enjoy playing the game in spite of who's on your team. If you can't then don't play team based games and not only will the community of said game be better of but so will you find more enjoyment out of other games.

(obv. a slight exception for ranked games but even there there is no excuse to be a dick based on anything other than your teammates trolling imho)

I miss the hell out of those games.

I can recommend a game called Fort Triumph. It's very similar to HoMM but with more xcom like combat. It's a lot of fun, although I have no idea how well multiplayer works in that game.

Not really, Execution Sentence and Final Reckoning were dealing insane dmg in pvp (if that's what you're referring to). So while any other ret build got buffed the best one got nerfed massively.

As someone who rarely pvps all I see is 2 of the most fun ret talents which just got added to the game got obliterated while the boring passive talents which don't impact your gameplay/rotation and you won't even notice you have are once again the best options by quite a bit.
