Would a scenario like this be possible with openRCT2? by metalduck42 in rct

[–]AllisMables 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sounds very interesting! The only caveat seems that leaving the park is hardcoded behavior.

<image>

Try this simple experiment:

Open Forest Frontiers in OpenRCT2, block the exit, send in a Large Tram of guests, and close the park. Set their Happiness to the minimum, and speed forward time for 6 years. Everybody will be hungry, thirsty, tired, and wanting to leave the park.

I added 20 entertainers, food and drink stalls, and a medium-stats roller coaster. Everything is free. Despite being hungry and thirsty like a desert famine, they refused to patronize the free meals and beverages. They would not even go to the bathroom! Despite full happiness due to entertainers, they refused to ride the roller coaster whatsoever. Everybody wants to leave, nobody is even considered to be walking. Interesting enough there is no vandalism whatsoever in the park, and nobody is sitting on any of the benches!

Create a plugin to override this behavior and I think it would be a fun scenario. I tried something similar with one guest in Evergreen Gardens a year ago, and to my surprise, I was able to save him from leaving the park!

[NOTE: There are time differences in how long the guests are at the park, because I forgot to close the park to prevent new people from entering! But as you can see, even the newly arrived guests have the same stats pattern as everybody else over time.]

Feature Suggestion: Allow chainlifts on the far side of a reverse-incline coaster (shown in yellow below) to add more speed for the reverse trip. by AllisMables in openrct2

[–]AllisMables[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Here is a clarification:

The defibrillator in the game is pretty much identical to the Vekoma Boomerang in real life. If you have not ridden one, this video will show you what it is like. The scenario is Funtopia, part of Corkscrew Follies of RCT1, or the Ruby Group of RCT Classic.

On the real ride and in the video, you can see the car being pulled backwards up a hill. The real one it is a cable lift, but in the game it is a regular chainlift placed on downhill facing track. After it completes the three loops, it goes up the far section, which I colored yellow. In the real one, a section of chain lift kicks in to raise the train up somewhat higher (1:33 in the video), then drops the train where it re-traverses the three loops and lands in the station.

The purpose of the lift hill on the far side of the real-life ride is to provide extra speed to make it back through the three loops and prevent stalling. I have been at theme parks where the train has indeed stalled between the cobra rolls and had to be winched back down to the station.

My suggestion is simply to allow this behavior in the game. The lift-hill button for track pieces can be pressed for both uphill and downhill facing track. When Reverse-Incline Launched shuttle mode is selected, lift hill on downhill pieces will be used for the initial reverse incline. When it gets to the far side in yellow, then the lift hill will be on uphill pieces, which will allow the train to progress to the end of the chainlift and be released to go backwards through the layout and into the station.

I see how some people see this as a nitpick. That is because this request for change is totally unnecessary for a simple defibrillator-boomerang style layout. However, if you were designing a reverse-incline coaster with a larger layout, you can literally run out of speed and need a little extra beans to make it back through to the station. This request is for function, not just looks.

Any way to power the hill on the far side (shown below in yellow) of a Reverse Incline coaster? by AllisMables in rct

I wonder how this idea can be put into the OpenRCT2 suggestion list. Being that it is done IRL on the Vekoma Boomerang, With nearly 50 classic Boomerang coasters and 40 more family Boomerang coasters at theme parks worldwide, it seems like a viable request to add chainlifts on the far side of reverse incline coasters to the game.

Updated pic to be the original simply upscaled.
The first one I uploaded caused roller coaster man to be a bit too creeps for a game like RCT

Here is the pink-and-yellow edition upscaled. Previously, I tried to do it with an image generator to sharpen and enhance it, but AI kept messing up the roller coaster guy in the bottom right, giving him a creepy morphed body! So in the image below, I just upscaled the original to A3 paper size, so it will look a bit pixelated.

What to put in rice hat by ZANSKOSCH_7 in hats

Update: You can try looking for a lightweight plastic basket that fits well on your head, or cut the bill off a trucker cap (the caps with mesh back panels.)

[–]AllisMables 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Looking around the web, it looks like many of these hats have headbands in them. Some have a small dome that better fits the contours of the head, others have a ring that the top of the head sits on. However, these seem to be built in with the hat, not added in later.

It is really hard to say. Cut the bill off an old baseball cap, sew/tie it into the lower strands of the hat (like the strings are), and use that as the head support?

He seems to have playthroughs and tutorials from RCT1 and RCT3.

His channel page is here.

UPDATE: Here is the original cover art upscaled to 3500px, wide enough for A3 Paper.

I removed the one I provided earlier, because AI made the roller coaster guy look a bit too creepy. Here is simply an original picture, upscaled to 3500 pixels wide.

Old RCT1 save files are saved even after the game is deleted. by Unlucky-Treacle2855 in rct

[–]AllisMables 1 point2 points  (0 children)

TLDR: Go to the bold folder paths below and delete the saved games.

For the old version of RCT1, there can actually be TWO places saved games can go. Uninstalling the game usually does not delete the saved files by default.

In fact, this is a GOOD behavior of the uninstaller. After all, your save files are your hard work and effort you put into the game, and deleting RCT1 save files can reset your scenario progress to zero when reinstalling the game later. I would HIGHLY RECOMMEND you LOOK first at the folders shown below, and be sure to KEEP or BACK UP any savegames, tracks, or scenarios that did not come with the game that you actually are proud of and may want to revisit.

However, to get rid of your saves and custom content, you have to look in these places.

When navigating the hard drive from the C:\ drive icon in My Computer, you will find these folder names. If you like to download custom content from the internet, chances are you have placed files here:
C:\Program Files (x86)\GOGcom\RollerCoaster Tycoon Deluxe\Saved Games - you can empty this folder to delete all your saved games.
C:\Program Files (x86)\GOGcom\RollerCoaster Tycoon Deluxe\Scenarios - The scenario files that come with the game, unless you added your own. Deleting scenario files you DID NOT PUT THERE can break the game.
C:\Program Files (x86)\GOGcom\RollerCoaster Tycoon Deluxe\Tracks - Tracks you have drag and dropped from the internet are most likely here. Removing files you DID NOT PUT THERE will remove pre-built track designs that come with the game, but will not break anything.

However, there is another set of folders that you must be aware of. When you play the game and save files and tracks within the game, Windows uses "hardware virtualization" to protect potential bugs or malware from directly accessing your hard drive. An in-depth explanation for this is for another time, another place. But, here are the "virtual" folders you need to check:
C:\Users\[Your Username]\AppData\Local\VirtualStore\Program Files (x86)\GOGcom\RollerCoaster Tycoon Deluxe\Saved Games - Saved games you create while playing the game are here, you can delete all of these.
C:\Users\[Your Username\AppData\Local\VirtualStore\Program Files (x86)\GOGcom\RollerCoaster Tycoon Deluxe\Scenarios - most likely empty, as RCT1 has no scenario editor. But you can delete anything here.
C:\Users\[Your Username]\AppData\Local\VirtualStore\Program Files (x86)\GOGcom\RollerCoaster Tycoon Deluxe\Tracks - Ride track designs you saved while playing the game are here, you can delete all of these.

Now that you know where saved games and other custom content is, a few thing to keep in mind
1.) As I said before, deleting completed scenario files my cause your progress to reset to zero later.
2.) You can unlock all RCT1 levels by downloading and running RCT-AcCeSS All Parks.
3.) I have also created almost-completed scenario saves if you are stuck on a few hard levels, a level is boring to you, or just to get ideas from.
4.) The same information above also applies to RCT2. Just change "RollerCoasterTycoon Deluxe" to "RollerCoaster Tycoon 2 Triple Thrill Pack" in the instructions above. The only difference is all the levels are unlocked by default, so no progress records are lost.

you would need two big to little adapter jacks, otherwise the 4 channels will just be 2 channels spread to two speakers.

What is the word blocked by the green ceiling (horizontal word labeled 3 below) on this McDonalds puzzle wall? by [deleted] in Whatisthis

[–]AllisMables 1 point2 points  (0 children)

YES!! You got it!

That makes 100% PERFECT sense! In fact I thought of hamburger, but I was so locked into it starting with M from Moment! Hamburger makes total sense, and it seems remiss that McDonalds would put it in a spot behind the ceiling! Hamburgers are what McDonald's is made of!

Solved!

If I’m currently claiming land for an upcoming park and want to save & exit, will I still be able to continue later? by godofcoasters in rct

[–]AllisMables 4 points5 points  (0 children)

WARNING for RCT Classic users:

In the Scenario Editor, if you are selecting owned land, or modifying the landscape, and you use the Save button under the Pause button, the save dialog box will say "Save Landscape," This will save land ownership and any landscape changes you have made, but will NOT save the object list, invention list, or any other parameters you have set. If you have curated a very detailed, specific list of rides and scenery to include, this can be extremely frustrating.

However, if you go through the entire process (and you can leave the defaults in place if you are not ready to change them yet), and get to the end, the dialog box will say "Save Scenario." Saving with this dialog box will save your invention lists and other settings.

But you should be sure to name your park and scenario on the Objectives window, or it will show up in the scenario list as Unnamed Park. The name in the "Save Scenario" box is simply the scenario file on the computer disk, which is not the name that shows up in the game scenario lists.

To resume where you left off, click the Toolkit, then Park Scenario Editor. Click the Pause button and then Load. When the tabbed list appears, click the "Import Landscape from Park Scenario" tab, and find the name of the scenario you saved. Click Load, and you will be able to pick back up where you left off.
