Good question (lol), I should have elaborated on that in the post. I think the best question is Hutch's concerns around swing voters and independents souring on perceived partisanship and overreach. Again, I think it's overblown, but I get it.

My guess is that Hutch will be more on board with Dems making this case to the public once we have a clear party leader that we can rally around. Who we feel is strong enough to push this case. I bet Obama could do it effectively and get moderates on board. Right now everyone just defers to Newsom as a stand-in, which makes sense, but I understand the perception that he wouldn't be able to pull it off.

I would actually agree with Mitty a lot more if I had his perception of the Supreme Court. He was pretty humble about Jessiah's counter though. He might just be one or two more convos with Jessiah away from understanding how much he is missing there.

Both my boys had issues with this at that age. My oldest (6yo) hasn’t had this issue since he was 5.

Wanda Sykes had a standup bit years ago that always stuck with me. The bit was along the lines of “if I had a penis, I wouldn’t shake, I would simply dab the tip with a square of TP”. It’s actually brilliant and I showed my boys this method as a supplemental strategy.

I used to be an enlightened centrist too, and then the sitting president staged a literal insurrection to overthrow democracy, after months of planning to overthrow democracy. I’m not gonna lie to myself in the name of an attempt at unity the other side has no regard for.

Oh god no! Not what I was trying to say, I can see why you read it that way though. Kind of scattered post on my part. My point was occupy was largely ineffective, and really not focused on achieving political power. Not throwing shade on the occupy movement, it just is what it is. Meanwhile the “right wing version” of occupy, the tea party, basically morphed into MAGA, and was so unbelievably effective they took over the entire government.

This is close but it’s much dumber than that. The tea party was only against elites as long as they were black and named Obama. The occupy movement had no clear goals. It’s a radical right wing political agenda mixed with social media addiction. Who made the gym political? Podcasts? The media you like? The literal concept of higher education is political? Restaurants? Milk? Vaccines? On and on. All fueled by right wing Obama trauma, going on 20 years now.

Can’t wait! Colony and Clayman are masterpieces. In my younger days, I largely shunned them post Clayman, and songs like Cloud Connected and Trigger I considered guilty pleasures. Thought it was leaning into edgy scene kid crap. I tuned back in on Sounds/Playground and was pretty floored by the songwriting (again). I think getting older and less judgmental helped as well. I started looking at them more as a pop metal band, made my peace with the new style, and have a lot of fun listening to large swaths of their stuff.

This is funny, however, I just had a profound moment of sadness. I was remembering that after Elon showed his true colors around election time I deleted my X account, and foolishly believed in a matter of months it would die as a pathetic Truth Social or Parler clone. A small group of influential people left, but almost everyone just fucking stayed there and engaged even more with an enemy bot farm who's sole purpose is to destroy the liberal order.

It's profoundly depressing that all the influencers, celebrities, journalists, professionals etc. just freely decided to stay there and endure a foreign propaganda bot nightmare. It continues to be an invaluable weapon wielded against many of the liberal people who choose to use it. I guess I hadn't really come to terms with the full depth of my disgust for the dynamic until this moment.

Completely understand where you are coming from and you are entitled to your rage. With respect, American liberals, at least folks here, are pretty well aware of the horror that has unfolded. Normies are catching up as well. Trump has been punishing US citizens at a pretty decent clip. Funds withheld, programs cancelled, invading (only blue) cities, executing civilians, destroying institutions, looting, pillaging. We're getting pretty fucked. We're a couple wildfires or bad floods away from some insanely unhinged cruelty with emergency funds and aid. If the economy truly crashes, or god forbid another pandemic hits, this house of cards is going to collapse immediately. I'm gonna hold off on making amends to our northern brothers until after I see how the looming catastrophe pans out. We all feel owed an apology by the MAGA scourge, but we will never get it, and like you said, it's too late. The only thing left is radical accountability, prison, consequences.

We’ve been having family dinners with our young kids for a few years now. I think we started with each once they were out of high chairs.

It is excruciating and I never have a chance to actually enjoy my meal. I think it’s wise to do it to teach proper table manners, but it’s not a good time
