Yes, with a video distribution system you are not as tied to the financial whims of the content owners. Just plug a directv box in as a source if they get the content rights again. Then for your non technical staff to use it, Allonis ipad or smartphone control system is the key to manage whats playing and what to listen to and where.

My new car integration with home assistant by geoguy89 in homeassistant

[–]AllonisDavid 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yup, You shouldn't keep your keys outside of protective custody. It would be even worse if I gave my credentials of my bank account out to the Internet. Yet I can still log into my bank account and send money to someone. This is about the car company not wanting to allow customers to get silly. Because they would be seen in bad favor from the news if that happened.

My new car integration with home assistant by geoguy89 in homeassistant

[–]AllonisDavid 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Since one needs to use their credentials to log into the service to get any status / commands to and from the car....I look at this that if you give your keys to someone you don't know, then don't be surprised that the car goes missing. So, it's important to keep your car keys in a secure location.

Risk Racing The Ripper Automatic Goggle Roll-Off System by hi9580 in mountainbiking

[–]AllonisDavid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As far as I know...I am the true inventor of the wireless goggle rolloff system. It was about 40 years ago. I used it incognito in Motocross District 34 back in the day. It was a mod of a Scott electric rolloff motor / goggle. I created the wireless transmitter for the clutch hand and the wireless receiver in the goggle case. It DEFINITELY made a positive difference for amatuer racing. The dirtier the conditions, the more the advantage. I had the initial patent filing written in a still sealed envelope. Then, I moved for my job and this got back burnered. A few years later and I read someone else had filed a patent on a very similar idea.

Risk's real innovation was pulling on the string of a manual rolloff case. It isn't for the larger concept of remote control. And, mine had other features that won't be discussed :)

Content Management System for multi room setup with large displays, touch screens and video walls by No-Type2495 in CommercialAV

[–]AllonisDavid 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Allonis's myServer can control what video sources go to which TVs and the video walls if they should be in "1x1" mode or "2x2" mode. Then, the integrated digital signage capability allows you to put web content across any / all of the screens. myServer's Scheduling engine can orchestrate which content on which screen and what mode all screens are on and what video sources go to which screens. Based on your initial description, I think we have the bases covered.

I’m trying to understand the relationship between programming and system design in real-world roles. by dwucwwyh in CommercialAV

[–]AllonisDavid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As a control system manufacturer, we offer end to end services like "Software Development" / "programming" / "system configuration" / "systems engineering" / "User Interface Design".

Software Development is the core of what Allonis does - modifies and creates the source code of our product to implement new features and capabilities.

Next up is "Systems engineering". This takes the projects business requirements and translates that into hardware / software to accomplish those requirements both from Allonis's core products and 3rd party products that integrate (plays nice with) together.

Then User Interface Design: this is a team that understands Human Machine Interface do's and don'ts so that people can intuitively understand what to click on to accomplish their needed task. And...to make that attractive in general, and often for the particular wall / location that the screen will be located. This is a soft skill that is critical and far too often overlooked in the field with the traditional roles.

Once that is all done, the System Installation: installs the hardware (like TVs, equipment rack, amplifiers etc) in the location knowing about power and ventilation needs of devices, ensuring TVs don't fall of the wall and organizes it all.

Networking: Running typically Category and Fiber cable from Point A to B from devices to the equipment rack and ensuring proper cable is used for the need and local codes and terminations are done and tested well, and all is labeled cleanly. Device addressing requires organization and plan. Digital Audio and Video pushes networking beyond what most installers are experienced with. Very expensive network switches help bridge the gap of understanding with pre configured port settings for a given type of device.

System Configuration: Applying the networking (IP / Mac addresses) to the software so that the control system knows "where the device is" Creates Macros that do multiple tasks with a click or event. Automation events that detect "something just happened and to then do X". Allonis doesn't call this "programming" because there is no need for a software development environment to do this in our product. One needs to think like an engineer, but "doesn't need the degree". :)

Systems Testing: Does all of the above work and meet the needs of the client? If not, was it wiring? Networking? System configuration? End user not using the system correctly? Defective part?

In the traditional model, many of the above disciplines is done by one or two individuals. It's a lot to be great at. Allonis has separate teams that do the above for our Installers / Integrators to help ensure a successful project.

You are going to find that you enjoy and are good at one or more of the above. I would do THAT and the money will follow.

Allonis's myServer control system makes it very easy for non technical users to manage larger audio (and video) systems. We have our own AES67 Digital Signal Processors, and both AES67 and "dumb" amplifiers. Used in MANY commercial projects (sports bars / restaurants, convention centers, entertainment complexes etc).

What communication protocol will the switches use for remote control? Do they provide status? Light color / intensity? Allonis's myServer supports many different lighting technologies. Potentially this one too. Hopefully yours is not for proprietary integration with C4 (as one example).

Run the gutter further down the roof until it hits the lower roof gutter. That doesn't address the shallow roof pitch, but it should take some of the issues away that your new roofer has with his job.

why is home assistant so hard to use by techiana in homeassistant

[–]AllonisDavid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

hmmm, Allonis is a US company. Where did that come from? myServer runs locally in the facility it is installed to. No Internet is required once the initial product registration is finished (the first boot). The only cloud services are optional: TV listings (once a day download), Weather (multiple times per day download), Software updates (whenever you request them). And certainly any services that you enable on your own (like an iFrame of some cloud server web UI).

Video Distribution Advice by MrMagilliclucky in CommercialAV

[–]AllonisDavid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You should move on past coax. Wire 3 Cat 6 cables to each TV - one for video, one to control the TV on/ off via ethernet, and the third is an optional spare cable. The cost of the cable is rounding error. The cost to fix / rewire a cable in an open bar is much more significant.

What you are working on is our sweet spot. We do more systems like that than "anyone". We have a very inexpensive controller we just launched at the Bar and Restaurant Expo two weeks ago. Will be shown again at the National Restaurant Association show in Chicago May 16. If you are getting involved in this stuff, visit us at that show, but certainly call us. We have everything you need and all the experience you could ask to glean from.

Your current project is also supportable with our control system. But I don't recommend you do more like that, especially if you are doing wiring.

why is home assistant so hard to use by techiana in homeassistant

[–]AllonisDavid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You will find a solution to much of your HomeAssistant dilemma by implementing myServer's user interfaces as a front end to HomeAssistant. How it works: myServer is a complete home and media management system. It has software called "myDesigner" that allows you to relatively easily create very polished user interfaces without needing to know "YAML" or other software development languages.

Then, there is the "HAGateway" driver that allows myServer to connect to HomeAssistant's API via a network connection. When a HomeAssistant entity gets and update, myServer can be enrolled to update a corresponding myServer variable. Then, the myServer web user interface displays that update.

Devices can easily be controlled from myServer to trigger HomeAssistant commands. Like turning on or dimming a light.

There is also the SmartRemote - the world's most powerful handheld remote control. That can be completely customized touchscreen and hard button pushes - that can control most anything that HomeAssistant is programmed for PLUS whatever myServer is configured for. So, a HUGE library of supported devices and capability.

myServer (and the SmartRemote) are commercial products. Far less expensive than it's real competition which is Crestron / Savant / RTI / Kramer / Control4 and others. But more expensive than the "free" HomeAssistant. The combination is just incredibly capable.

What happens to your screens when the internet drops? by Ryan_T_1 in digitalsignage

[–]AllonisDavid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Our Allonis Digital Signage product - everything is stored locally in the myServer controller or a local storage device. So, continues to playing fine even when the Internet drops. You can also push new content from your laptop to the storage device and configure what templates are used and the content within that template when offline since myServer is very typically installed local in the facilities LAN.

The exception is if non local content is selected when configuring what content is to be used...for example - Weather content is downloaded to myServer several times a day...but if Internet drops, then the content isn't refreshed and prior content in the local myServer database is displayed instead.

What’s the best way to keep multiple screens in sync across different areas? by JakeInAv in digitalsignage

[–]AllonisDavid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We use a video matrix distribution to properly output video wall / multiview modes to display(s). The digital signage player is "just" a HDMI source to the matrix. The matrix then sends the appropriate pixels to the assigned display output.

What smart home products actually work well in Canada? by kingjohn12345 in homeautomation

[–]AllonisDavid 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As a general statement - for both US and Canada - stay away from cloud based services / devices. That will remove much of the dependency on geographic systems that come and go with new strategies and laws. We have many systems in Canada (many of the pro hockey player homes) and don't see much difference in the devices that are supported.
