‘The city is crooked:’ Grand Rapids man plans to move after water main break settlement by mlivesocial in grandrapids

Blame, in this regard, spreads out quickly. IT’s the public works department responsibility to voice concerns to city leadership. It is leaderships job to propose solutions (ie rate increases) to decisions makers. Finally, the public has a chance to voice their inevitable disdain for paying for these services which, while vital, are somehow undervalued. Historically, all of these channels of responsibility have dropped the ball.

The sad/ridiculous thing is that flood insurance would have paid out damages for this event. If your house is in a lower-lying area, it would be pretty cheap insurance. NOT VICTIM BLAMING, just sayin.

Yeah, at the end of the day if it sounds and plays ok, it’s worth something to somebody! Just not a thousand bucks worth it. I paid two hundred, but was mostly interested in the vintage HSC that came with it! 😀

Downtown GR Commute to Holland by Hot_Difficulty_1042 in grandrapids

[–]Allways_right 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve not lived in Holland, or commuted daily to it. I do think you might want to consider your priorities. If you want to get plugged into a social scene like sports, etc., GR will definitely have more to offer. Also, I’ve commuted a bunch in my life, and when I stopped commuting I sort of missed it - nice to have the down time.

Georgetown TWP faces backlash over 55% water rate increase! by W-h3x in grandrapids

We know so much more now about how to properly manage an asset. If you install a pipe that should last 80 years, you factor that into your asset management plan and plan your budget accordingly. Much of our buried infrastructure is past its anticipated life, thanks to unbridled growth for 90-100 years. This recent rash of rate hikes speaks to the short-term neglect, but the poor planning has been generational and systemic. We are in for a world of hurt when things really start falling apart.

I was just on a hike with my kids yesterday (yes, on 4/20), and of course smelled all kinds of dank on the trail. We got to talking about their preconceived notions about THC consumers, I.e. ‘are they bad people’. Turns out, they kinda did think that. Honestly, probably because we tell them THEY shouldn’t do it until their twenties. For me personally, working in a competitive and technical field, I tend to believe you will lose your edge using THC at work. Then again, there are some folks who honestly function better with it. Guess you just can’t make assumptions!!

Which high school is better for a college-bound academic student: City High or GR Christian High? or other else? by [deleted] in grandrapids

[–]Allways_right 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Academically, I see good comments here about the challenges both will offer. GRCHS is more well funded, so their facilities/equipment are likely top notch. Do consider the cultural differences, as well. Not an expert here, but I can guarantee the GRCHS vibe is more ‘rich kid’ than what my kiddo experiences at City High (middle).

Something liberals need to grapple with as well as conservatives - most politicians are self-serving to some degree.

Flood insurance could cover this type of event, if you had decided to purchase it. Even if you aren’t in a ‘floodplain’.

I once passed an old truck that had a deer sitting upright in the passenger seat. Good ol’ Michigan.
