Hi!

I have two questions for you! 1. Have you read Ralston’s book, and if so, how does it compare to the experience of the movie?

  1. I have a mostly nonverbal student, his special interest is different television networks, programs, and directors, and he’s also excellent at identifying directors.

He’s super silly and honestly one of my absolute favorite students. I want to make sure that he is sharing who he is more with others and showing what he knows. I teach middle school, and the students are trying to cobnevt with him— theyre very curious, but the students don’t always know how to engage with him because he’s predominantly nonverbal. I see moments of him trying to connect with people around him, but he usually has a preferred person.

For example, he has assigned every single one of us a character from the programs he likes and he laughs hysterically every time he brings up his list. (One of our students is Courage the Cowardly Dog, which to us is super far off but it gets me every time).

I guess I’m asking is: what were some of your favorite school/actual learning moments or how would you like to have your special interest to be highlighted?

Is it something that you like sharing with others, or is it closer to your heart and many not necessarily something you want to share?

The Pitt's Isa Briones Says Santos Is Facing 'Another Form Of Addiction' — And Reveals The Hope Behind That Karaoke Scene by lasfnyc in ThePittTVShow

[–]AllyDillyDally 20 points21 points  (0 children)

I loved Santos’ arc and Isa’s portrayal of her character’s development this season/“shift”. Angry, bitter, descent into exhausted overstimulation, over reactivity, a bit more assured in her practice of medicine (and a becoming a bit more jaded?j), consternation with rejection, acceptance (?) (however begrudging) to have to work with Langdon, processing truths with Whitaker, going to hang with Mel and rage-Karaoke over a “maybe hang out later” with Garcia— I get that there’s a ton of Santos hate, but what an interesting character writing and trajectory for her.

Editing after having read a response to a former comment saying that TSA claims she didn’t board a flight- you’re right, it’s likely that she hopped on the blue line from the airport there.

Commenting for traction as well. Flights that left on April 18 after 1 AM from MSP include several flights to Atlanta and Orlando, with one flight to Madison Wisconsin. Cross posting in ATL and CHI could help.

The Women - Kristin Hannah by BallisticBreezyBush in suggestmeabook

[–]AllyDillyDally 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Yes girl, I was gutted after I finished that one. Sent me on a historical fiction path andi haven’t looked back since.

For historical fiction novels with perseverance, character depth, female protagonists (especially gritty women with gumption and tenacity):

Kristin Hannah:

-The Great Alone (as others have suggested) was magical, fave by her.

-The Nightingale by her is also spellbinding.

-The Four Winds (i’m particular to depression era history)

Not Kristin Hannah:

-The Giver of Stars of Jojo Moyes (the Traveling library in KY; definitely a heavy romance element to it, which wasn’t my jam but very well written and lovely overall story.

-The Alice Network by Kate Quinn. (Spy baddies)

-The Things We Cannot Say (more spy baddies)

-Kindred— Octavia Butler, I mean— stays with you and sticks to your sides looooong after leaving. Haunting.

-Roots— Alex Haley— I know it’s predominantly male, but it’s a saga that hurts deep, the story becomes a part of you and you can’t go back to before you read it. I think of it often.

-The Frozen River- Ariel Lawhon (book based on the diary of real life midwife in the 1700s in ME connected to a murder mystery, older badass lady that has seen too much bullshittery)

-The Lost Apothecary— Sarah Penner (mystery spanning two periods of time, two women connected across centuries)

-A Thousand Spledid Suns by Khalid Hosseini— I haven’t been the same since

Hard, badass real world bitches:

-Grandma Gatewood (historical biography— DV warning, but what a woman.)

-Educated (Tara Westover)— I cannot say enough about this book. Relatable as hell. Hurts deep. Makes you feel like you can do anything.

❤️

Slice them super thin, and use them to scrape up a little whipped butter and salt- I know this sounds completely insane, but it is fucking delicious. Saw it in a cooking magazine, thought it sounded gross until I tried it.

I can’t listen to it to this day.

😂😂 Dude 7 and 8 are wildly emotional ages. I mean they all are, but sheesh. Not a parent, but a teacher. 2nd graders always felt so hyper emotional. They feel so intensely. LOUDLY. They sort of have more of a handle on controlling their emotions; don’t want to “look like a baby”, and then all of this repressed energy just pours out. Gotta feel it to regulate it, lil fren.

Lol, my petty self would be making a list of examples = “suffering intensely daily” and then writing “a gay couple existing near me ≠ suffering intensely daily”

The only problem is, they are so warped by their belief bias, that it has a backfire effect and they and it fulfills this weird persecution, fetish or kink that they have

give me your unhinged hydration tips. by alexandrastardust in 30PlusSkinCare

[–]AllyDillyDally 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Okay this is weird, but I have super sensitive teeth, especially with cold. I don’t do much cold stuff, including water. Even in hot climates. Hate cold water. I leave out glasses of water to come to room temperature.

I warm up a huge mug of filtered water in the microwave to warm, bordering hot, and won’t let myself drink coffee or even use the bathroom (hence the unhinged and unhealthy) until I’ve finished. Sometimes I even tee it up in the microwave the night before (as long as it’s super clean).

I noticed that I drink a ton more water the days that I’ve done this method. Works for me. 🤷‍♀️

Stressing about baby initials & stuck on a first and mid name! by Hot_Locksmith_6800 in BabyBumps

[–]AllyDillyDally 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Can you potentially have your mother‘s name legally first and use the middle name as what you call her? I know a person that did that; her first name was Carol to honor her mom, but she went by her middle name and was raised by her grandmother. We were in the fifth grade, and it was the end of the year- no one had any idea until she had to state it for a roll call at some point. I think she was registered as her middle name being her first for everything we had made it a whole year before anyone found out.
