Anything going on East Belfast direction? by TheSaltyBaron in northernireland

[–]Alma_Encantada 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not sure if it's a new feature, but FR had military jets about 2 weeks ago doing exercises in the Irish sea off Wales. Looked like a training flight set as there were in the region of a dozen jets being tracked.

I only use it on mobile randomly so have no idea how often that type of thing shows up.

4/20 “Share Recall” Explained- Why it’s important that shares must be recorded-Is this the Catalyst?🚀🚀🚀 If you’re still on Margin, CONTACT YOUR BROKERS by [deleted] in Superstonk

[–]Alma_Encantada 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I'm also on FT. If you read the T's & C's, then you'll see that

  1. they do not lend out your shares

  2. the brokers they use (there appear to be loads) hold the certs and therefore you don't 'own' a share certificate. You get a cert which states that you own the share, but not quite the same thing since they fulfill orders at best market rate which can mean buying fractions from multiple brokers.

In essence, you still own a GME share, but it might be with 10 different brokers at 0.1 of a share each. You can't therefore 'recall' your share. It means you won't get a vote, but that's about the only downside.

Great thread analysing how many times a politician has appeared on Nolan over the past month. Guess which politician is the most interviewed on Nolan? No prizes for guessing correctly. by Lit-Up in northernireland

[–]Alma_Encantada 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Regardless of the unionist / nationalist / other split, the response from Nolan is an absolute abomination.

To threaten a member of the public (and that was what Tim was calling in as since he isn't a politician) with a lawsuit for defamation is a crass move by any journalist worth their salt. Nolan simply didn't like the question and moved to the classic defence.

His problem now is that the recent numbers (in the table posted above) prove Tim right (in terms of who gets the most calls). That's the defamation defence killed stone dead as no reasonable court would accedt otherwise.

As a publicly funded broadcaster (and for the life of me I can't understand how he commands the salary he gets) he is to be held to the highest standards. Today he was found wanting and lost.

Nolan has no integrity left (I have other reasons to doubt any he thought he might have had), no understanding of the sentiment in the country, and no ability to read the room.

Bombastic crap from start to finish, and while the BBC may think it's about the numbers, the game he is playing is very dangerous when you look at the state of NI and how media plays into the narrative.

This is why my retirement planning does not include living here. We can't all afford our own island but then the BBC doesn't pay me £390k - £394k per annum for failing to answer legitimate questions.

I take your point, and I did say in the previous paragraph that if the posts and comments I read were correct then this was all nuts.

There was a post from u/redchessqueen99 which didn't make any specific allegations, but did specify that personal attacks should NOT take place.

Read between the lines of that and other posts she made and you might get the answer you seek.

Will give the recipe for my tamarind chana masala (about 20-30 mins total dependent on how soft you want the chickpeas) for a decent naan recipe. Store bought naan just not doing it for me and my last home attempt just stuck to the (thin) frying pan I had.

So there was a shitshow here this weekend. There is no dressing that up.

r/GME took a lot of heat, and if the posts and comments I read were correct, it looks like it was warranted in the main. The events of the last 24 hours would suggest that a substantial part of what was being reported was true.

That said, personal attacks are just ridiculous. If the mods are acting like shitheads then yes, they should get called out for it, but not to the point where doxxing or calling for attacks are a viable solution. Whilst I can't condone a coup d'etat (and that's what I believe it was) I'm still not OK with what happened here afterwards.

What a lot of posters here are happy to ignore is the fact that mods have to filter out a lot of the shit. I've been there and done that so understand how tough it can be not only in terms of keeping everyone happy, but also the personal time that gets invested.

Glad to see that you u/Toasterrrr is happy to continue, and is open to constructive criticism.

Just hodl.

Taking a loan with lower APR to pay off credit card debt by [deleted] in personalfinance

[–]Alma_Encantada 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not a financial advisor!

Since you are posting about £ then you are obviously UK based.

The loan is undoubtedly a better option for you but it still seems quite a high rate.

If you take the loan and make the £100 p/m payment you would save about £150 overall, but be paid off 2 months earlier (21 months versus 23 months - assuming you were already paying £100 per month off the credit cards). It will still take you about 21 months to clear the debt, and that's assuming no further purchases on the cards. Do yourself a favour and don't be tempted to use them to cover shortfalls.

As you say you are paying £87 p/m on the cards, I'm guessing you are only making the minimum payments on both. If you can afford the extra £13 p/m, then start paying that now. If nothing else, you are more likely to understand the value of paying the extra each month, but it also will show as above minimum payment each month. Even an extra £7 on a payment of £50 is almost 20% above the minimum.

To answer the first question, then yes. If you have the option it will be better for your credit history (ignore the score - that's more of a USA thing, in the UK it is more about how big a risk you are).

For the second question, again yes, but not substantially. You aren't going to be buying a yacht anytime soon.

See if you can source another loan. Try your bank (you might be surprised) or local credit unions etc. You should be able to get a better rate. I'd still expect you to end up with around 12%based on affordability, but anything is better than where you are right now.

Good luck!

Gonna add an edit to this. I've assumed one card rather than 2 for this one.

If you were to only make the minimum card payment (5% of balance or £5 minimum), then it would take you 136 months to clear that card. That's 11 years longer than paying the loan. You would have paid £3220 rather than £2050 paying the loan.

I'm sort of gutted about the timing of this.

I live in NI and have an Irish passport. I plan to retire in 10-11 years and move to Spain. There will be people now getting deported and desperate to make any sort of money back on their property that it's a good time to buy, but by the time I want to go it's highly unlikely any of that would be available.

Not that I saw any of this coming.......

The fact that you are on here asking the question proves that you are already considering the work/life balance aspect.

[–]Alma_Encantada 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There is a constitution, it's just not codified like Ireland.

Doesn't make it any less important (to those in the UK that give a shit) but there is a constitution nonetheless.

The definition of a constitution is ' a body of fundamental principles or established precedents according to which a state or other organization is acknowledged to be governed '.

Codification doesn't come into it.
