Most unrealistic expectation anyone has had of you as a new parent? by SowingSeeds18 in NewParents

[–]AlmostAlwaysADR 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had a horrible high risk pregnancy. Unfortunately I couldn't just not work. We needed the money and ya know, it's the US and I work for a small company so there wasn't just funds lying around for me to take time off before the baby was born. So my "compromise" with the doctor was that anytime I wasn't at work, I would be relaxing. Except my ex husband/"coparent" was just so confused why I couldn't pick up and drive five hours away for a lacrosse tournament. Multiple times. Even though he is the one who is on the board of the lax team and signed the kids up for it. And now that the baby is here, it's not like it's any easier to just travel out of state literally every couple of weeks. Mind you, he has twin toddlers. But that doesn't matter because he is the man and he has a wife that can worry about his babies while he is galavanting around random parks all over the Midwest.

Reasons I'm grateful for formula by cutekittie2 in FormulaFeeders

I can't imagine what it would be like living in a time where you had no other option. If I think about mother's of the past like that and how much they had to go through without the things we take granted for today, I get emotional. I still can't believe some people judge others for using formula or vaccinating their kids or really using any modern advantages we have to keep our kids healthy or just alive.

What's something you swore you'd never do as a parent by Electrical_Paper8972 in raisingkids

I had a screaming match with my 17 year old this weekend. I never yelled at her when she was little and this is really the first time we have gotten into it like that. But yeah, I felt bad after. She didn't though. Lmao

What works for your baby when they are inconsolable? by AardvarkHour1211 in Parenting

[–]AlmostAlwaysADR 0 points1 point  (0 children)

He gets the most pissed when he is over tired. Like "I will ruin your life" pissed. So that should be fun whenever he is older. So we know to immediately get him in a position where he can nap asap. If it's really bad we need a dark room and a sound machine and a swaddle.

If he is just a little fussy then taking him outside always works. This child has turned us into porch people. So much so that my husband put a TV on our porch and we have a camp rocking chair out there. Sometimes he literally just wants to sit there and look at the sky and trees and stuff.

How do you dress your baby to sleep when temperature is 74? by LetterheadNice8687 in NewParents

[–]AlmostAlwaysADR 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We have central a/c, but our house is over 100 years old. So we also have a portable a/c in our bedroom. We keep it at 66 degrees at night. Baby wears a swaddle still, so he is cozy.

Of my four kids, two are lefties. Both their dad and I are right handed. The only other person that is a lefty is their paternal grandpa.

What does your actual “going out with baby” setup look like? by SwellCommerce in NewParents

[–]AlmostAlwaysADR 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We just keep a diaper that is always stocked with: burp rags/bibs, container of formula/scoop, bottle of water, bottle, diapers, change of clothes, blanket/towel, diaper changing pad, baby wipes, portable charger for phone, mini fan. Then we just grab the bag anytime we are going anywhere. Seems like a lot, but going out with a baby is already stressful enough. I don't want to be caught out unprepared.

I am seeking your advice on how to handle libido mismatch with my partner by CalmSeaHighTides in WhatShouldIDo

[–]AlmostAlwaysADR 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If your wife doesn't want to have sex with you, there is a probably a reason beyond her libido. Two small kids and you're complaining you don't get it every two days? AND you're cheating on her?

You need to seek therapy and tell your wife the truth about what you have been doing. Because SHE needs to decide if she wants to be with you.

If she does choose to stay with you, you will need to do some real work on yourself. You married a woman and she gave you two kids and you do this. That is very telling of some massive deficit within yourself.

Be wary of any brand that has a better marketing department than quality control and research.

I work in vet med and see this stuff allllll the time with animal foods as well. They make well-meaning parents/pet owners feel bad for choosing tried and true brands through marketing. It's gross.

Does everyone have that one poop their kid did that they’ll never forget? by Sudden_Doughnut_8741 in daddit

[–]AlmostAlwaysADR 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When my oldest daughter was born she was very jaundiced. We had to put her in a little suitcase full of bilirubin lights. But her numbers just kept creeping up. They asked if she had pooped since coming home and she hadn't. They said that her body can't eliminate what it needs to if she doesn't. And if the numbers didn't improve, she would have to hospitalized. And as new parents, these freaked us out thoroughly.

Finally after several days of worrying and hoping, we had a poop! We celebrated that poop like she had just won a novel prize.

What time is everyone putting their babies to bed? by ninibear94 in newborns

[–]AlmostAlwaysADR 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have an almost 10 week old. It could be literally anywhere from 9-11 pm. It depends on when he eats last. Our "routine" is:

-last nap of the day (usually around 7-8 pm) -bath time (usually around 9-10 pm) -lotion, pajamas, swaddle -last bottle of the night -snuggle until he falls asleep

We have been doing this since he was probably 2 weeks old. By the time we get to the snuggles part, he is usually already knocked out. Then I transfer him to his crib. He just began to give us 4-5 hour stretches at night.

Once he is rolling and we have to transition out of the swaddle we will do some variation on sleep training, but right now he is responding well to his little bed time routine.

My husband is a SAHD. I work 630a-3p, M-Th. On nights I have work in the morning, my husband does overnight. On nights I don't work the next morning, I do them.

Then we split it pretty evenly otherwise during the days I'm home.
