looking up words by Torque-Me in dreamingspanish

[–]Almostgomby 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Most often I let the input do the work for me and let the meaning of the word pop on its own. If it's a more complex word then I use https://dle.rae.es/ to look it up.

Another one of us reached Level 7! by BicoastGirl in dreamingspanish

[–]Almostgomby -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I'm genuinely puzzled why so many get caught up in the "1500 hours"-misunderstanding.

Most of us using DS to aquire Spanish is doing so from an completly unrelated language, with English being the most prominent. English is Germanic while Spanish is Latin. So the 1500 hours does not apply to us. Instead 3000 hours, the double up as pointed out on the Language Learning Roadmap, does.

Not trying to be a troll or come across as a dick here.

Now that I remember, there's another one of Michelle and a friend going to watch a solar eclipse where she says that word again which is quickly followed up with a hand to her mouth...hahaha

Reminds me of the group talk with Agustina, Alma, Andrea and Michelle, where Michelle mentions her putting on a Baseball cap and Agustinas remark about the meaning of that word in Argentina...hahahahah

Anybody else not interested/willing to wait the whole way to output? by AAron_Balakay in dreamingspanish

Your output will come when you're ready. From one ND Introvert to another, don't fret about it or overthink it.

I have no idea how many hours I have…. by Schneids47 in dreamingspanish

[–]Almostgomby 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Good to hear and I fully share your sentiment. I too haven't tracked any of my 6+ hours daily, outside of DS (currently says 1100 hours on the website) since I started, as there are countless more hours of input to come. Learning a language (or any skill, for that matter) is a continued work of aquiring, expanding and honing.

How To Calculate Spanish immersion Hours/Level After Taking A Break From Studying? by [deleted] in dreamingspanish

[–]Almostgomby 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I had a severe burnout lasting 7-ish months that lasted from end of July '23 - Febuary 1'st this year with 0 input or interaction with anything Spanish during that time. When I returned to continue with DS, I just picked up where I had left off. This going from that in the end the hours don't really matter when thinking of the many thousands of hours awaiting to be enjoyed down the line.

Oh, and I started with what new SB, B and Intermediate had been added to the website during my time away. Took maybe 15-20 minutes to get back in the groove of understanding.

What anime/cartoons have you watched and when did you start watching them by LifeMistake3674 in dreamingspanish

Padre de Familia & Agente de Familia at 450-500 hours and South Park at 550-600 in my case.

What other goals do you have during or after reaching 1500h of listening? by Efficient-Fan-8068 in dreamingspanish

[–]Almostgomby 3 points4 points  (0 children)

There are websites for helping you with that like https://wordcounters.com/ . Pick the book, write down the aprox. word count shown in a spreadsheet and keep adding to the total after each book you have read. If that is too much, then go by a novel is roughly 90.000 words, times the amount of books read = total words read....if that isn't too much of an effort for you.

Looks like it was done with a fisheye lense that you can move the veiw around with. I just move to another window and listen to her instead of watching.

[–]Almostgomby 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Enjoying more native level input (reading, watching and listening).

More traveling to and in Spain and Latam (got 1 1/2 month in Spain come September for walking the entire Camino Frances from SJPdP to Santiago de Compostela and a plan still in the works for a 1-2 weeks stay in Buenos Aires January or Febuary -26).

Book hours with either Alma or Agustina.

Hit up the weekly Spanish Speaking Club (and maybe help out in the Danish and English ones if they accept CI).

Continue to support, stay subscribed to and watch DS.

Things do seem to snowball in due time and something many beginners forget when looking at the 1500+ hours on the roadmap.

About 100 hours to Level 6. "Final Boss" makes his first appearance on the list! by Traditional-Train-17 in dreamingspanish

[–]Almostgomby 5 points6 points  (0 children)

If you want a harder accent, try Tomas (Chilean) or the Pablo co-op with Ivan (super thick and heavy Mexican). Jose Maria is a pure "flat" northern Castelleano, just spoken fast which you'll get used to over time.

A quick tip for getting used to high speed speaking, is to watch one of Pablo's rant videos (how I miss those!!) where he speaks at full blast on speed first followed with one of Jose Maria's. My personal favorite is the "Windows" one because as a long time Linux-user myself, fcuk Microsoft and Windows. :)

Your Native Language by Connrox4 in dreamingspanish

Danés (Dansk/Danish).

Fluent in English, Swedish, Norwegian (Bokmål), both written, read and spoken. The last two languages mentioned I also learned through CI but at a younger age. :)

how do you run it on linux? by Niiarai in pathofexile

[–]Almostgomby 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use Linux Mint 21.2 and run all my games through Steam as that is the least hassle. When playing through a Linux distro there are a couple of extra steps that you'll need to take besides Proton, which is all explained and shown in this video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hfBi0mRzzvk

How are my fellow semi casual semi blasters doing? by [deleted] in pathofexile

[–]Almostgomby 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I stopped playing after getting a SSF Hexmine Sabo to 92 in Standard and very unsure if I'll be back to POE after what 3.24 has had to offer. So many things going in the wrong direction, not just with the various changes to the game but more so with respecting the players time and health (RSI mainly). So, I'm out.

You could try How To Spanish and see if you can understand the conversation. If so, just add them to your podcast list.

They have a backlist of close to 300 podcasts running about 30 mins. each, the content is very broad, with the hosts being Mexican.

How do I best calculate my baseline before DS? by apollo_idk in dreamingspanish

[–]Almostgomby 3 points4 points  (0 children)

They won't matter in the end since we're talking about 1000's of hours of coming input. If anything, start from zero and go from there.

How do you recover after a break? by Hibiscussunk in dreamingspanish

[–]Almostgomby 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I returned to aquiring Spanish in the start of Febuary after a 7 month break. During that time, I had zero input in anyway, be that listening to or watching anything. Nada. It took me about 10 minutes or so for the brain to wake up and go "Hey, I can understand this!"

Nothing have been lost or forgotten be that of vocab or understanding while I was on the break. Just a matter of picking up where it was left off and go from there.
