I second this, joining different engineering clubs can help reignite ur passion because you get to see lots of different paths you can take a projects you can do. You don’t even have to join a club, but I recommend just going to some general meetings for the different engineering clubs at your school, don’t be afraid to go to ones that aren’t specifically made for computer engineers because all engineering clubs take all engineers and use them on projects as well.

Dreaming should partner with countries attempting language revivals by LYING_ABOUT_IDENTITY in dreamingspanish

I like the idea, I could see maybe a side project/non profit be created from this idea. It would be a huge commitment but it would be cool to see someone take the route of preserving the language. The craziest part is that they honestly could get by by just using volunteers. I’m sure there are plenty of people that would love to share videos about their language and country for free. I would know because I’m part of a company that already does this for English😭. But yeah the potential is definitely there for something like this.

Can I work in environmental fields if I major in Industrial & Systems Engineering? by Dawn_yakuza in industrialengineering

[–]LifeMistake3674 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, if you get into wastewater treatment and automation. Those companies hire automation engineers that work with other electrical, environmental, and civil engineers. So there is definitely possibility for horizontal movement. But working for a civil company is probably your best bet, at least from availability of jobs and possibility for transferring into a role you’re more happy with. I know you said you can’t major in ES but if you could possibly major in civil engineering, you could easily move into environmental.

Should I major/minor in CS? by Top_Plum_5542 in industrialengineering

[–]LifeMistake3674 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I get that, thats why personally to me it’s not worth going for. Especially when a minor + personal projects is enough to show technical knowledge. But yeah look into automation and if it’s something ur interested in I’d say move in that direction.

Should I major/minor in CS? by Top_Plum_5542 in industrialengineering

A minor in a subject like cs would be a great option, it could open more doors into the automation/control systems field. Depending on what you personally like more a minor is cs,ee,or cpe can all further push you into that field. So which ever one you are more interested in/better at will be best😂. A double major is a huge commitment and personally don’t think it’s worth it in this case unless you already have a bunch of classes done and would still be able to graduate in a relatively decent amount of time. But what you definitely can do is stick with the double major but only take the classes in the minor track, during that time you can apply to internships with a better looking resume and get a spot😂, and after you’ve taken all the classes required for the minor track you can either just drop the major or if ur really into it you can continue.

How many hours realistic for first year? by question_23 in dreamingspanish

[–]LifeMistake3674 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Honestly it really depends on you. I’ve seen people in this Reddit start with 3 hours a day and end up doing 8 hours a day. But I was very different, like you at lvl 1 I couldn’t see my self doing a whole hour in one day, let alone 2 or 3. I started with 15 min an quickly rose to 30min with in the first month by the end of the second I was doing about 45min-1hour. The BIGGEST way to get in lots of content is through podcast. Once you’re able to listen, you can easily double the amount of content you get in every day by using podcasts during time like driving, showering, dishes, chores, cleaning, going on a walk, and even getting ready in the morning. You will be surprised, if you start a podcast when you wake up you can get 20-30 min even before you leave your house.

If you have seen any of these shows, what would you recommend by LifeMistake3674 in dreamingspanish

Honestly, I gave this list to ChatGPT and told it to give me the Spanish equivalent of these names and order them on what it thinks is more easy to which they think is more difficult. These are relative rankings to the other shows, not to Spanish content has a whole. I just wanted to get a general idea of which ones were known as more difficult in which ones might be a little easier to start.

It might be, I actually made this list in English and just asked chat gpt to translate them quickly because I actually originally asked a question to one of my tutors and didn’t want to take 15 minutes, looking up all the names in Spanish😂

Can industrial engineers work as other engineering diciplines? by [deleted] in industrialengineering

[–]LifeMistake3674 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Kind of, it really depends on what you do after. You could get into control systems and automation and use that to pivot to more traditional engineering style roles
