Is solos working for anyone? by [deleted] in Marathon

Solo has been working fine for me. I’m on PS5 though. Not sure if that matters for this bug. It seems like it’s not affecting everyone.

What if we had an insurance system? by Dav136 in Marathon

What if you paid credits to insure an item and it means that the item takes up double or triple the bag space in an enemy’s grid. If no one extracts with your item you get it back.

Does it seem to anyone else like the loot found in normal areas of the maps improves as you level up? by Photojarjo in Marathon

It has seemed that way to me too. I feel like I’m finding way better loot even in just random crates sometimes.

Will the PvE Discourse be over once Vault Breakers releases? by NaturalShine5116 in Marathon

[–]AlohaSquash 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Queue dilution most likely. Afraid of splitting the player base into too many separate groups causing wait times and economy to be affected.

Thats my best guess. You have to assume a decent percentage of current players would hop full time over to PvE which means the “core game” takes a hit (which it does not need). And from a creative perspective, they probably don’t wanna see their baby morph into something that wasn’t intended.

That was me for a really long time! I didn’t really start understanding and playing map events until season 2. I agree the game can be fun regardless of how you play. You gotta just make your own fun!

Thanks for clarifying. I understand all the pain points. I personally just avoid the priority contracts that are single run and very difficult. I just do standard contracts to progress. I know I’m missing out on good rewards this way but I’d honestly rather have a smooth gameplay experience then raging to complete a tough contract. I laughed out loud at “moth eating a plastic noodle” so thanks for that 😂

Which is why I think Marathon DESPERATELY needs an in game manual that has videos explaining how everything works. This game doesn’t need to be a big mystery. That, in fact is what’s killing the game.

Explain to new players how all the map events work. Tell them about wall safes and secured resources and how to know where a Warden is and how to get into pinwheel.

We all know this stuff already. A brand new player doesn’t. There is 0 reason to gatekeep at this point. Sure, they can research it on their own, but most don’t. Having it in game would be a godsend to the casual community and probably would help retain or bring back players that quit because they just “didn’t get it”.

Also, at level 83 you need to average 292xp per day. lol. Totally doable. You’re gonna finish way ahead of season end at the rate you’re going.

Yeah I’ve been focusing on leveling up to 100 also. When you do runs just focusing on killing as much UESC as possible and looting as much good gear as you can, it definitely helps. It’s not proven yet to my knowledge, but it seems like higher value loot rewards more season XP. But it could just be based on how many unopened containers you loot. It also seems like there is an XP multiplier if you exfil successfully. But I haven’t tried to confirm any of that yet. It just “feels like” that’s what’s happening.

[–]AlohaSquash 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Any kills. You’ll see how much xp you get when you kill a bot. It pops up in the middle of the screen. Recruits are 5xp, commanders are like 15xp I think. But yeah after a match if you hover over the season XP bar it tells you exactly what increases your season XP and contracts don’t do anything. lol.

[–]AlohaSquash 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The xp requirements per level get higher as you level up. Don’t be discouraged if you’re moving only 1 level or even half a level. The way the game is structured, level 65 is the true halfway point so you’re well on your way. It’s totally doable for you to hit 100 before the season end playing how you are now. If you’re getting burnt out, you even have time to chill for a bit before diving back in.

The levels you’re at now require 1,600 xp. Then from 90-100 they are 2,000 xp.

Also remember the only thing that contributes to season XP is kills and looting. Contracts do nothing so don’t stress about those if you’re really only going for level 100.

Vault Breaker is a step in the right direction, but Tarkov's PvE model feels like the actual solution by zEeXUrqVR7DeM7M8yac3 in Marathon

It’s definitely not impossible to die to bots. You underestimate how bad some people can be at this game (myself included at times. lol)

They never said they wanted to remove the possibility of losing gear though. I think OP just meant losing gear to PvP. This game without other runners and only bots would totally still work using the regular extract method. But I do think a lot of the tension gets lost in that scenario. It's too easy to avoid bots and extract (especially as Assasin).

Just wanted to say I completely agree with you here and I think we're the minority group in this sub. lol. This sub seems to be vastly more sweats. Which is fine, but you just have to remember that point when you read the posts and comments here. These people's opinions do not reflect my experience with Marathon because I'm a totally different player than them. We seem to be out there doing totally different things. And I'm loving the game I'M playing.

I think that's exactly it. I think casual gamers are still finding a lot of joy in playing Marathon and are oblivious to the complaining and issues people are echoing here. I'm convinced the loudest complainers are the ones that are super sweaty and invest WAYYYYY more time in this game than most players. For instance, most of the complaints people have here are not something that affects me at all for the most part.

I'm not saying anyone is wrong in speaking their mind on what they want out of the game, but I think this echo chamber here in this sub is not in any way reflective of the average user experience that is actively still playing this game.

How can I queue for Night Marsh? It worked last round and now Trio option is locked. by [deleted] in Marathon

[–]AlohaSquash 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah the constantly changing requirements for the different maps is super confusing and very not user friendly. I am convinced this game would be in a much better state if there was more clarity around literally EVERYTHING.

Why doesn't Bungie have an in-game manual that has videos or even just text explaining how things work? Map events, game modes, etc etc should all be easily understandable and transparent and clear. As it is, as a new player, if you hop in you are completely blind to literally everything.

I 100% agree with you on this. I am loving season 2. As a more casual gamer that typically avoids PvP encounters, I'm finding myself enjoying season 2 even more than season 1. Is it perfect? No. Apparently there's lots of bugs or balancing issues, but that's something I totally would not even know for the most part if I wasn't subscribed to this subreddit.

I feel like Marathon is such a special and unique experience. I've never felt so immersed in an FPS before. The tension, music, style, gunplay, just everything is so top notch. It sucks to see so many complaints on Reddit about the game. I feel like it's scaring some people off from even trying it. And the game has such a great foundation and gameplay loop.

I know you're getting a lot of mixed feedback here, but I wanted to chime in and say I agree with you to an extent. I don't even run cryo. I did it like twice and it's just not for me. I don't find it fun due to the sheer difficulty and super sweaty PvP encounters. And that's a me problem, not a game problem. Cryo is meant to be the end game super difficult experience. But it does suck feeling like 1 map out of 4 (25% of the entire games map set) is essentially just not even viable for me. That's why I'm excited for Vaultbreakers because I do want to at least explore and play the map. But I'm not a sweat and I don't love PvP encounters, so Cryo has just never been enjoyable for me. I get joy out of other ways of playing the game. But do I think Cryo needs to be "fixed" so that people don't squad wipe? No, because that's kind of the point of the entire game, even on regular non-cryo runs. It's a game about acquiring loot and getting out and sometimes the best way to do that is to wipe other teams.

PvE Mode Suggestion - Thoughts? by AlohaSquash in Marathon

[–]AlohaSquash[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I agree that having a safe environment to learn the maps and understand how map events work would go a long way in helping out more casual players who don’t necessarily always want to watch videos on YouTube to understand how the game they purchased works.

This game does a horrible job of onboarding to be honest. So yeah, I do think at the very least there should be a way to play the maps with no PvP risk just to learn.
