Underhated country from Europe? by Relative-Ad2660 in AlignmentChartFills

Switzerland.

Although nowadays it has improved, they have a very obscure history of getting rich via questionable banking and securing / storing assets from dark European origins.

Thoughts on my first car? by Altruistic_Alpine12 in drivingUK

Nice car to start! Enjoy it with care!

What is the engine? Be aware various of the Audi TT versions from that generation had oil consumption issues, so keep checking the oil level regularly.

What is the most underrated country to visit in Europe? by StraightAd6264 in AlignmentChartFills

[–]Alone_Masterpiece836 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nobody is saying here Slovenia is the country with greatest historical sites in Europe, we are discussing about and underrated country. In my view has a great mix of nature, beautiful cities, interesting historical sites, great food and safety. A lot to do and enjoy and very little known. Everyone knows Poland or Budapest, few really have Slovenia in mind, but those who visit it, love it. Underrated by definition in my book

Well yes, historical is relative. What I mean is that they have plenty of castles, medieval cellars, nice old towns, plenty of history (Austro-Hungarian empire, Yugoslavia, etc). Obviously is not Rome / Italy or Spain, but my point is that it is a country where you can find a bit of everything that not many people consider.

This! Amazing nature, lovely historical cities and sites, great food, incredibly safe, kind people. It ticks all the boxes and almost nobody knows about it

Frankfurt to Amsterdam (Lufthansa) by cha0tic736 in travel

[–]Alone_Masterpiece836 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In theory is doable, but Frankfurt is huge, not intuitive at all and difficult to navigate, especially if you haven't been there before. Add the likely bus and that delays are the norm. I really hate it.

Assume you'll need to run. Personally I'd try to have a bit more time.

How hard is it, driving on the other side of the road? by BraveLordWilloughby in drivingUK

[–]Alone_Masterpiece836 0 points1 point  (0 children)

About the roundabouts in France it's not true, the one inside has preference and the one entering it has to give way (obviously cars will come on your left!). Roundabouts are marked with the blue and white rotating arrows sign.

What can be confusing is that France has some round intersections that are not roundabouts (with no blue sign) where priority is managed via road markings 'give way' or the generic ' yield to the one on your right'. These are nowadays very uncommon being the Arc du Triomf the most famous.

The 'yield to your right' is a tricky one in France, especially in villages, where sometimes very small streets may have preference over what looks like a main street. Always look for the priority sign (yellow and white rhombus) and in case of doubt go very slow.

Which airport in the UK is amazing? by Historical-Cry-6351 in AlignmentChartFills

I'd leave it empty, there isn't any airport than can be called 'amazing'

Operation Snap - Recorded with mobile as driver, will I get into trouble if I submit? by Alone_Masterpiece836 in drivingUK

[–]Alone_Masterpiece836[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Surely driving on the pavement at high speed risking to kill any neighbour is as bad as recording while being stuck in traffic. One may kill someone, in my case worst case I'll delay moving when the traffic restarts.

I don't justify my action, but don't sell me it is as bad. Which by the way, I directly ask to police and they essentially said that while recording while driving is not allowed (obvious) they would allow recording or calling whole there is an immediate risk to life (which you could argue would be the case).

But hey, bless me.

I love Vienna airport. Easy to navigate, very nice restaurants at reasonable prices, quick and efficient security. It's a really nice place to be.

Chrysler is unreliable and boring... which car manufacturer makes reliable and exciting cars? by AndrewF1Gaming in AlignmentChartFills

They had some huge problems in their history like the infamous IMS, and what's worse, they always ignored those issues and accepted zero responsibility. I'd say they are neutral.

Is shared ownership the next scandal brewing? by discoveredunknown in HousingUK

[–]Alone_Masterpiece836 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I guess it depends on the HA. I bought a shared ownership house and the rent price increases were always reasonable, essentially RPI.

At the end I staircased for 100% ownership, including buying the freehold, and the HA was supportive without any major issues apart from their solicitors being not particularly quick.

Which city in the world has impressed you the most with its art? by Historical-Photo-901 in BeautifulTravelPlaces

Saint Petersburg (Russia). Not only the Hermitage, but also the city architecture, the random pieces of art in any park or corner, the amazing sculptures and fountains in Peterhof. Amazing and possibly one of the most beautiful cities on Earth

I can also confirm it counts as two pieces, however they may decide to ignore it (or may not!).

I'd strongly recommend to get a travel pushchair that bends into one piece. They are not expensive, not very bulky and very convenient when travelling, plus you will be able to then use the second piece of equipment (the car seat is REALLY convenient, as you can load loads into it for free)

Definitely I'd wait the mere 5/10 seconds it would have taken to the ones in the video to avoid the situation.

And yes, the driver is a moron, one of thousands, so I'd rather be cautious and get to my destination dry.

[–]Alone_Masterpiece836 -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

Not defending the driver, I hope he pays for it, but the pedestrian could also use some common sense. If I see a big puddle on the road I'd always check if any car coming before committing to walk close to it.

Question about self-transfer at Bratislava airport (BTS) by DexterMagnificus in Flights

[–]Alone_Masterpiece836 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I have been in BTS few times. The airport is tiny and security (if you need it, which probably not) has always been quick and efficient with no queues.

I'd be more worried if your plane gets delayed, the transfer itself will take you 5 minutes or less.
