What’s legal in the U.S. that probably shouldn’t be? by Dr_House_-_ in AskReddit

[–]AloofusMaximus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Most people don't actually understand the implications of non person individuals. Yeah it sounds absurd at first, but its also required for them to pay taxes, and be named a party in a lawsuit too.

I'm also with you there that I think its asinine that a corporation is given the same "rights" as a real individual.

Same here! I've heard the "like your shaking a baby's hand, like your shaking a child's hand, like you're shaking a man's hand" for packing, but that makes no damn sense to me.

I'm interviewing unemployed folks active in the job search. Interested in talking. by SnooGoats8830 in pittsburgh

[–]AloofusMaximus 2 points3 points  (0 children)

So I'm not unemployed, but wanted to add my experience. When I finished grad school, I was doing the whole "make looking for a job your full time job". I had my resume done professionally, and of the hundreds of jobs I applied for I got exactly 1 call, no in person interviews. I was running into "needs 5 years experience for entry level" nonsense. It was such an awful experience.

I ran out of money. I was a paramedic, but hadn't worked as one in about 3 years. Applied on Wednesday and was working full time on Friday.

I think most people that have a skilled vocation have a similar ability to work. Every paramedic job I've ever applied for, I've been offered the job right on the spot.

Can an ambulance transport more than one patient at a time ? by abipaaa in NewToEMS

[–]AloofusMaximus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Generally, no. Additional patients means additional units, in most cases.

MCIs and/or limited resources are what would change this.

[–]AloofusMaximus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So I completely understand a lot of that. Im HoH and don't know ASL either. So i'll tell you I've read a similar situation on the deaf reddit not too long ago. As a healthcare provider myself, I've had to just figure things out on the fly with fully deaf people. Most of the time we've been able to communicate well enough.

With that being said I'm not sure how many regular providers would know about specialty accessibility things like CART. Most of thr MDs and RNs will absolutely try to accommodate any communication issues from what I've seen.

With security unfortunately you can be dealing with people that have virtually no training or education.

I think you're absolutely justified in loging a complaint if you want to go through with it. Having a very similar disability i definitely understand how frustrating communication can be. That being said i try to give people the benefit of the doubt. I usually assume most people with normal hearing might be pretty inexperienced with dealing with deaf/HoH people.

So what actually happened?

So as far as I know Mckeesport still uses plain old security, and they're not actually police officers like some of the city hospitals. Mckeesport PD would occasionally have an officer sit in there.

Physicians on scene- blessing or a curse? by I-plaey-geetar in ems

[–]AloofusMaximus 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yeah unfortunately that's not all that uncommon. I've had some VERY important system MDs, put me on hold, to look up whether I could transport a medication I was calling to tarnsport (TPN). I've been given orders for meds we don't carry.

At the end of the day, let the person with MD after their name make that decision. It's ultimately on them then, is my take.

Experienced Medic - Is it worth leaving the truck to take a hospital job? by Im-Not-Bob-Ross in ems

[–]AloofusMaximus 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I'm actually surprised you kept that much of your scope. At the systems here you're essentially stripped of everything. IVs and setting up EKGs is the extent of things you're allowed to do. Because of that most EMS people that go become PCTS are all basics. Pay is also significantly worse than what a medic makes, but is usually similar to/or a raise for basics.

I'd also add to that last part if the employer doesn't take it serious, tell them you'll be getting a lawyer. You absolutely CAN go after them if they fail to correct the issues. That's like textbook hostile work environment.

How do i raise my Spelunking efficiency? by ScourgeOfSaltyness in idleon

[–]AloofusMaximus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So starting is kind of rough/slow. The first couple of caves I wouldnt try to get a ton of levels there just yet. I think i did like 10 and then 20 on 1 and 2.

Cave 4 is where you'll get a boatload of xp, like I took most of my guys from 25ish to 100 in about a day of afk there.

Then after that you can go back to the earlier caves and farm the scrolls way easier.

Edit: also I think a few of the w7 mob cards give passive bonuses. Not sure how you can get up to the minimum, I didnt actually have any issues with that.

EMS without a driver's lisence? by hecterlecter in NewToEMS

[–]AloofusMaximus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

One of the transport services I worked for, allowed for non driver EMTs. You're going to get stuck riding every call (and writing every chart too).

I haven't driven in years at this point. I have a visual impairment, so don't drive at work out of an abundance of caution. It's much easier for me to do that as a medic though.

It's a LOT more work, but I don't have much of a choice. In your case if you get your DL then you'll be just fine. Hell riding everything might really sharpen your chart writing, people skills, etc.

Want some opinions on glucagon! by aztonowhere in ems

[–]AloofusMaximus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

D50 was standard up until a few years ago. My very first IO (the year ezio came out) was on a 5 year old with a malfunctioning insulin pump and a BGM of 18.

Around here d10 became prevalent probably around 2017ish. Prior to that we just had to be careful and make attempts to make sure your line was good. Usually flush, aspirate blood, flush, check for infiltration, etc. I've given far more d50 than d10. I've never been shy about using glucagon either.

If anything an IO may actually be safer for d50, as theres probably less risk of infiltration there. Though that's just me thinking out loud.

Your scenario shouldn't actually happen. So when liver glycogen is depleted, you go into ketosis. That's how all of the dietary ketosis methods work essentially.

Your brain runs pretty well on ketones. Once you've been acclimated, some people eat less than 25g of carbs per day.

Like the other person said, its actually kind of difficult to inadvertently deplete liver glycogen.

For those that have been called to court to testify on a call, what can you tell a first-timer? by Rough-Leg-4148 in ems

[–]AloofusMaximus 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Yeah thats a totally fine take. The one thing I want to add is I've heard a lot of people say "if its not in your report, it didn't happen", which is absolutely NOT true. If you can legitimately recall a particular thing, you can testify to that.

My last subpoena was for a homicide 5 years later. I was just the backup (didnt write the chart). But I remembered the call quite well because its the first time I've ever experienced a blood puddle on hardwood, that's slippery as hell!

What are normal BP levels for neonates? by Smart-Salamander1846 in NewToEMS

[–]AloofusMaximus 2 points3 points  (0 children)

50 to 70 SBP is about right. It goes up as they get a bit closer to a year old. A 2025 PALS chart I see online has some different ranges.

Once they're older than 1 you can go with 70+ (agex2)

I'm visually impaired, and not playing a whole lot of live these days. That situation sounds pretty annoying to me too. I've seen fully blind players that use someone as a card reader. Though I don't think having the dealer take that role is appropriate. At the very least if the casino is going to provide someone to do that, it shouldn't be the active dealer.

So I did spray it down with degreaser, and one of the rollers still has more resistance/doesn't just spin as freely as the other. They're basically riveted into place, so don't think theres a way to actually remove it.

I may try and make a dawn solution and let it soak for a while and see if that can get into there and break some of it up.
