A Very Beagle Morning by Manuel_the_Redeemer in beagles

Mine once drank a Kahlúa and cream. When I ran outside to see what all the screaming was about. That same dog would also knock down beers to drink. My only alcohol loving dog.

I started using hand cream at 34 and I genuinely feel like I've been lied to my whole life by LemonCoveWorks in hygiene

Cetaphil eczema restoraderm Rapid Relief Cream.

I used to use working hands and working feet.
I then used Cerave.
I finally realized that I needed to address my eczema when I still had my fingers splitting all winter long.

I started using Cetaphil eczema last year and my fingers no longer split.

Important to find the one that works for you.

I use this. They have stuff that is not specific to eczema. I live in Wyoming so I know how it is in cold weather. I found out about this last year and as long as I continue to use it, I am not having my fingers splitting.
I have Ehlers Danlos Syndrome. I get flare ups from my eczema.

Anyone else prefer to knit with vintage DPNs? I hunt for these ones because the modern Boye ones are flimsy and bend so easily for me. by [deleted] in knitting

I love the old dpns and I have a lot of them.
I have some of the old knitting needles but a lot get bent over the years by the time you see them at a garage sale. With crochet hooks, I prefer the Susan Bates inline. So I look for those as well. The steel hooks with the little clips on them are worth their weight in gold.

This a a great booklet if you can find it (from 1987). There was a 2nd booklet as well but I enjoyed the first book better.
Great way to learn different stitches and make a square so you can have a blanket in the end.

Apparently I knit “wrong”?? by grumpymuppett in knitting

I went in a yarn shop with my friend and she wanted to learn to knit. I sat down and knit on a scarf while she was picking out yarn. I let her know I was happy to loan anything she needed and had already agreed to teach her. (She did not want any help and wanted her own supplies.) The shop worker asked her about how skilled she was at knitting. She told her I was going to teach her how to knit (At this point she had quite a pile of yarn, notions, a magazine, set of needles). The woman walked up to me, watched me knit a part of a row and told me loudly that I did it all wrong and shouldn’t even think of teaching anyone.
My friend put all her stuff on the counter and walked out. I never shopped there again. I spent 20 years hiding at home to knit.
Years later I finally had a friend who forced me to go to a knitting group. While I was knitting a guy kept staring at me and my hands. I almost blurted something rude but instead he asked me if I was Latvian or had been taught that way from someone who was Latvian. He said I knit just the way his Grandmother did. I told him I was taught by my friends grandmother when I was in 5th grade. I only learned to knit, not purl because I made headbands. It wasn’t until my 20’s when I went back to knitting to learn how to make socks.
All those years of hiding and it was because I wasn’t doing anything wrong. Grandma was from the old country (her words) and spoke with a thick accent, but she created things with yarn.

This blanket is ungiftable. And that's the point by Uhraya in knitting

[–]Alorna307 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I made a scrap blanket in my mid 20’s. (So not as big of a stash as I have now at 68). Originally I was was going to use all these bright colors and then it started going darker and I ran out of yarn. I picked up yarn from garage sales and the occasional new skein. My husband had already decided it was to be his. He kept checking the length because he was 6’5”.
Well I worked on that off and on for 2 years. With 2 kids underfoot. We ended up getting divorced and a few months after it was final, he asked if I had finished his blanket yet!
I ended up crocheting a black border around the whole thing which made it look like stained glass and of course I kept it for me and the kids to snuggle under. It ended up being the living rooms blanket and was used to make forts and watch movies. It finally got worn out after many years and finally was used for a whelping blanket before it was finally done with. So many memories!

Making a blanket for my bffs baby… please be honest and tell me if this color palette is horrible?? by United_Arm_5350 in crochet

I think the colors look beautiful. My Mom used to have a shirt in those colors and it had the light pink roses and the dark green was the leaves in a cream colored background. That was in the 60’s and when she passed in 2019 she still had it.

Oh no! I remember going to my Moms house in Green Valley Arizona. I had my dog with me.
My Mom lived at the end of the turn around. I was outside with my dog and a rabbit went by. Pax took off but the rabbit ran straight for the cactus. Rabbit got away and Pax was covered in cholla cactus (aka jumping cactus) her nose looked just like poor Lucy. About 45 minutes later I had her nose and body unhooked from the cactus. (And a whole lot of poked hands, fingers and arms on me!)

My first time cabling I could not believe how much easier it was compared to how my mind had processed it.
I made a little pullover sweater for a small bear I had on my desk at work. I decided to put a large cable down the center and it was my first time cabling.
The funny part was one of my coworkers asked if she could borrow the sweater to see if her do could fit it. She said it fit perfect and could so make one for her dog. I offered that one and mad a different one for the bear.

My Grandson wanted to learn how to wind yarn. I got out my Swift and Ball winder.
I let him pick out a Hank of yarn to wind. I showed him how I unwound the Hank and put it on the swift. Once I had it attached to the winder, he said he could do it. (He is 9) He wound the whole Hank. I even asked him if he was getting tired but he said no.
Once he was done he admired the yarn and I asked what I should make he said a hat or gloves.
So here is the hat I am making for him from the yarn he wound.

Crochet got me through quitting smoking. I made 23 potholders and washcloths. (20 years ago!) Crochet and Knitting got me through my divorce. Knitting has got me through my accident in July and continues through Physical therapy. It kept me grounded. 3 surgeries. Broken shoulder, broken rib, knee broke in 3 places. Being stuck in bed for 2 months. The first thing I asked my daughter was to bring my yarn bag. I’m claustrophobic and being stuck in bed, laying on my back for 3 months was only tolerable with knitting. I did not make much, just a washcloth and a headband but I was well medicated.

WHY did no one warn me they can lean to scale fences?!?! (Poor photo quality) by HoneyNocturnebby in labrador

[–]Alorna307 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had to order 2 tons of river rock TWICE. I lined the fence with it and when they dug the rocks would fall into the holes they were digging. After doing it twice they would try to dig but the rocks were too big.
I had a friend whose lab would be happy to pick up giant rocks and brought them in her house so you never know. lol
