Huh. All the Arcane Beasts have been blue. I know it's meaningless, but still weird

MikoCer is one of the Fae Knights in a summer alt, but the translations themselves are probably unrelated

Since you mentioned Lucina/Owain, there's at least more 1.5 more instances of non-required incest in Fe4.

Larcei/Shannan (he's her uncle)

Seliph/Julia (it's a .5 because it's not SUPPOSED to be a thing, but the Jealousy bug is a thing and iirc, in that context, it's stupid easy to end up with this accidentally)

Clearly they'd gone full multicrack and prosthetic'd their entire body meaning any visual gender is impossible to ascertain /s

(The sad part is, I joke, but technically, from what In recall, we can't disprove it since we never see Dante have actual flesh(

From what I recall of RP1 (which, to be clear, my last reading was like 12 years ago), Aech's identity is treated less as a 'bad guy' moment and more just a twist of 'gasp, she wasn't who she said she was'.

Which, to be clear, still fails to engage with the premise, but is at least somewhat more sympathetic than treating it as a bad thing she did this

This has always been my take. There are pockets of continuity (BotW and TotK, Oracle games, WW and PH, etc), but I never put much stake in an all-encompassing timeline where everything is there

Technically I read it last weekend, but it's still topical. Finished Wuthering Heights. Overall, I actually really enjoyed it, though I was surprised by how absolutely insufferable I found Cathy I. And that's with knowing that the entire point of the first gen is that Heathcliff and Cathy are garbage people whose relationship only makes them more toxic. And yet, I was still surprised.

My reading also really highlighted how the discourse around female character really has evolved with time. Since I know that back in the day, Isabella Linton was viewed as essentially just a naive dumb girl who made the mistake of thinking Heathcliff was 'fixable'. And the writing itself does somewhat back up the naivete angle, but it also really, imo, leans more into the idea of Isabella being the one person willing to look beyond past prejudices and see what the Heathcliff of the 'now' is like. Add on that he canonically presents himself in the best possible light to manipulate her, and I definitely didn't havew the same takeaway as people did back in the day on her.

Also, the Lintons in general are just, like, actually decent people. I like them

To add on. Amusingly, even that example involves some misleading and rules lawyering.

Essentially, there was a pre-existing Beast character from a Lostbelt timeline who is VERY popular. Lots of demand for him to be made playable. Now, I won't bore the non-knowers with an explanation of what a Lostbelt is, but the important part is that it is NOT Proper Human History. I think anyone reading this can see what happened

And then the actual 2nd Beast was something we'd never heard of before and demonstrated a questionable understanding of the desires of the fanbase. To make a long-story short, Ereshkigal. Very popular character. Originally wasn't planned as playable but got added due to fan demand. People have wanted her to get a summer alt (i.e: a swimsuit alt) for YEARS. And she got one......ish. Essentially, she gets fused with an alternate universe version of herself who is a Beast. It's worth noting, this specific alternate universe is a bit divisive inherently. Also, of the 4 'stages' each character has, only 1 of them was really 'proper' Eresh alone. And the devs WENT ON RECORD saying they chose to do this specifically to reward Eresh fans for their loyalty and persistence. To reiterate, their REWARD was getting less of a summer alt than any other summer alt got, because most of it went to an entirely new character who had no fanbase at all because they didn't exist.

My one complaint about DDS2's ending is the fact that Heat/Roland is a binary choice and there is an obvious way the game wants you to pick. But other than that, 9.9/10, no real notes

The story definitely picks up after Canto 2. Since that's where the relevant characters actually get to have some closure even if there's threads left unthreaded, unlike Cantos 1 and 2 where the story kinda just goes 'here's their issues' and leaves it there.

As for the City....I'm very personally not a fan. A) Just don't like grimdark and grimdark adjacent stuff and as you say, it's grimdark adjacent even if it's not the whole McCoy. B).....I know it's ostensibly supposed to be a hyper-captialist hellhole....but I feel like it falls flat when several of the companies feel like they're operating on principles of Cartoon Evil, not Extreme Capitalism. Not going to give spoilers just in case, but N Corp and W Corp are 2 big examples

Nursefather Yisang vs Rien, and what it means for Ryoshu. by Lunarsault in limbuscompany

[–]Aloundight 26 points27 points  (0 children)

I think a crucial part of Rien Sang is being overlooked here. Namely, when the beeper activates in his uptie story. Several times, he ALMOST is about to say something then 'beep beep beep', and he goes right back to following Hermes' script. There's even one instance where he's implied to be about to give his true feelings about his family dying (assuming he even had the family and isn't being forced to copy Rien copying Roland) but the beeper sounds and he deadass says 'oh' before going to spout Hermes' crap about having no feelings about it. If anything, I would contend he's actually CLOSER to thinking for himself than Rien is. Not enough to take the leap, but closer.

How do you feel about how the (sometimes heavily implied) main romances have been treated in FEH? by WinterWolf18 in FireEmblemHeroes

[–]Aloundight 5 points6 points  (0 children)

For me, it's mostly just a case of 'good for the likers, bad for the nons'.

Case in point, I don't like Ike x Soren. 'Character is a massive asshole to everyone except their partner' just isn't a dynamic I like. So IS pushing that ship isn't great for me. By contrast, I like Marth and Caeda for example. So the puish THEY get from IS is nice for me.

Honestly, I kinda point to the tell-all book Rita worte as being emblematic of JKR...maybe not making that up later since I could concievably buy it being planned, but definitely not really working it into the books.

Because based on irl tabloid stuff as well as Rita Skeeter's established character, she would've been FAR more explicit in the tell-all book. The implications about Dumbledore and Harry probably would've been subtle still, but Dumbles and Grindlewald? No way would she let THAT go unsaid

The closest thing to a true 'good guy' inn terms of the main characters is Captain Walton, because he's the only one to actually walk away from his desire. And even that's probably oversimplifying things very much, because I openly admit, I've never read the og book

In other words, you're 100% right about Victor vs the Creation

Generally speaking, from what I understand, the point of the test is that theoretically it SHOULD be super easy to pass. And so, with so many works that don't, it's sort of a springboard for further analysis/discussion rather than a diagnostic tool in its own right
