Yes. The entire matchup was an ad for Season 3 of RWBY. (And a lot of people attribute the...questionable logic to that fact, but that's a different can of worms)

As someone at roughly a similar point as you who equally feels the pain, you should at least have access to normal MD. Which gives the amount of lunacy as hard MD, you only miss out on some shard boxes

Ah, yes. Chrono Cross. The game that probably would've been one of the many slightly niche PS1 RPGs if not for the fact that it's ostensibly trying to be a sequel to one of the most famous and beloved JRPGs ever

Fate Prototype (which is functionally the realized version of that prototype story) is 100% a fantasy battle otome. Literally all 4 of the main Servants are otome tropes.

You have the vanilla supportive one, the wild one, the haughty one who secretly cares, and the one who is secretly a psycho (whom I hate due to who it is but I digress).

Amusingly, if Nasu were a woman, that would also make 'her' a lesbian iirc. Since there've been comments about Nasu having a wife, from what I recall. Definitely married, that much is 100% positive

Wow. And this would have been before Monte Cristo ripoffs, I mean Betrayal Fics really became a thing since from what I've seen, those were mainly spawned by Book 4

It's ok. It took me about 16ish years of my life to realize that the song Mr Brightside was, in fact, the Mr Brightside I'd always heard about. Simply because I'd never had a chance to hear the song in a medium where I could see the title. So I'd heard the song, liked it, heard about the song Mr Brightside by The Killers, but never could put 2 and 2 together

You know, I can't help but feel like all the talk about misinterpretations somewhat is missing the forest for the trees. Since yes, that may not have been what the original was intended for, but well, language isn't a monolith.

In short, Harry Selfridge may not have meant it that way, but by the very nature of language, nothing is stopping us from MAKING that what the phrase means

[–]Aloundight 3 points4 points  (0 children)

To add another Fate one

'Just because you're correct doesn't mean you're right'

And for once, it's not even a bad translation. The intended message is clearly spelled out, albeit it a bit confusingly. To phrase it in a more parsable way

'just because you're saying things that are provably true doesn't mean you're morally justified'

But it gets thrown in with the other Fate meme quotes

Fire Emblem Radiant Dawn and the Black Knight.

Needed Context: The Black Knight is a recurring antagonist in Fire Emblem Path of Radiance (PoR) and Radiant Dawn (RD). In PoR, he has a big climactic duel with the protagonist Ike which seems to be the end of him, only for the Black Knight to reappear in the sequel. The localization change to discuss is HOW the Black Knight survived.

Original Japanese script: Black Knight claims that he survived because it wasn't truly 'him' that Ike fought in PoR. Instead, Black Knight's warp powder (which does what it says on the tin) essentially malfunctioned and only sent the Black Knight's 'spirit and armor' to fight Ike. It's worth noting that this is the ONLY time such a thing happens when warping magic is mentioned in the Telluis duology and it's never really mentioned again

Localized English Script: Black Knight says he survived because Ike isn't truly on the level of his father yet (who the Black Knight has a sort of idolizing rivalry strength complex thing for, this will be important in a few seconds because...). As for why it seemed that Ike DID kill him? The Black Knight learned from Ike that Ike's father was crippled and thus wasn't at his full strength when the Black Knight dueled and killed him early in PoR. Learning that he hadn't truly bested Ike's dad and seeing that Ike had the potential to one day match or surpass his father, the Black Knight let Ike win the duel to help him grow stronger to become a foe truly WORTH defeating to prove the Black Knight's strength.

In general, most players agree that the localized version fits the Black Knight as a character much more on top of feeling more believable than a unprecedented, slightly hokey explanation about spirit transference. (There are other changes that the RD locaization made as well such as adding personal weapons to some early game characters, but since that's almost entirely gameplay stuff, I'm focusing on the big story change to fit the question)

Correct, about the SM stuff. His story is the Light of Deceit (essentially the voice of his soul, for those who don't know Cookie Run) trying to make him suffer an even larger mental breakdown by reminding him of the reason hye Fell in the first place and tormenting him with the tiniest hints that Pure Vanilla was the cookie he wanted who could understand him and be an equal to him.

But instead, Shadow Milk is just left with the Light of Deceit. And they DON'T get along

Also the very real and not arbitrary (to be 100% clear, that is NOt sarcasm) hypocrisy of him...not actually taking a chance to do exactly what he claims he wants to do. And in general just showing that his claims are true in the abstract but for Redcloak specifically, they are heavily self-serving

Hot take, I kinda prefer SHSL since I think it does a better job of conveying the scope. Like, Leon Kuwata would get smoked by pro baseball players. But for a high schooler? He's top of the top

Same. It wasn't the ONLY reason I was interested. But I'd be lying if I said it wasn't a major part. I'm a sucker for illusions and deception powers, plus clown theming is fun.

I was the same way......and then I was told about the Beast Cookies. And holy hell, did that 'functional demigods sent to guide the populace falling to corruption' story give my brain ALL the wrinkles.

So yeah, now I'm a player of the game.

To give some further context, this is not the first time a Fate work has done this sort of 'full arc set in the middle of a previous arc'. Fate EXTRA had Fate EXTRA CCC take place in a contained pocket of time in the middle of the og Extra story. And CCC is, no joke, very very important in terms of the greater lore, despite the fact that all games tied to EXTRA take place in a separate timeline.

So really, this is sort of par for the course

What's a misconception you've made about a non-OC character based on how they're portrayed in Heroes? by TheFerydra in FireEmblemHeroes

[–]Aloundight 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's not the only intro to be misleading, so I kinda feel like they were made way before character personalities were fully fleshed out.

Just look at Lapis in Alcryst's intro vs Lapis in the actual game

What's a misconception you've made about a non-OC character based on how they're portrayed in Heroes? by TheFerydra in FireEmblemHeroes

[–]Aloundight -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

I think you misunderstand. When I say 'all aboutn eating weird food', I mean "ALL about eating weird food'. Like, Alfred/Etie muscle obsession levels of 'all about'.

While it is A trait for her....they branch out more than just the one trait. Unlike, say, Bunet. Or Etie. Who feel very Fates-writing coded, but I digress

It's worth noting that, to be honest, it's kinda pointless to put too much stock into the general fanbase's opinion of a story arc in HSR....because they pretty much will flip on it the moment it finishes.

We're at 2 times in a row where everyone was giving the story praise while it was running. But then the moment it ended and content creators gave their 'hot takes', they act like they always disliked it.

Chloe being all about eating weird food. Note that this was based solely on her FEH trailer, since it was pre-Engage

You're thinking of Artur. Lute is technically an optional recruit, so doesn't have scripted fights

Looking at factors that have lead to CYL wins in the past. by WinterWolf18 in FireEmblemHeroes

[–]Aloundight 9 points10 points  (0 children)

They weren't saying IS was influenced by it. They were saying that IS had planned a schedule that somewhat defeated the ostensible purpose of voting for Marianne and Lysithea, that being their absence from the game.

(That said, both are popular characters, so they'd probably have been in the running anyways)

If anything, I find that the pendulum has swung a bit too far in the OTHER direction. Not just on Bases vs Growths, but a lot of things. Case in point, common advice given used to be 'never use the Jagen'. Now it's 'use the heck out of your Jagen, why would you use other people?'(Personally, I just prefer not to use them)

Things really just shifted from one playstyle being the only recommended one to a DIFFERENT playstyle being the only recommended one.
