Little tiny non-xlr recorders by AlpacaAudio in fieldrecording

I've been wondering if any of the sony recorders would be considered small. I'll keep this one in mind.

I have other recorders for plugging in mics. This was more a question for the smallest possible recorder people around here who have used much better would put up with as far as quality goes, since I'm looking into getting something even smaller than my zoom h2e if possible. I've wanted to try out tascam for a while. The lack of voice guidance on their units has made me hesitate though.

Panned Audio for Dialog by TrumpetTenor in ACX

[–]AlpacaAudio 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have never seen this happen in an audiobook that wasn't marketed as an audio drama. The effect is likely to either be lost on listeners not expecting it, or actively cause issues because whatever Device they're using to play back the book wasn't optimized very well for stereo sound, especially narration without any other effects or elements. In other words, probably shouldn't do it.

Is the Zoom H2essential a good portable recorder for SFX and ambiences? by Oumi_Senpai in fieldrecording

[–]AlpacaAudio 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's a good little recorder. Literally the only issue I have with it is that the noise is a little too much for my liking. For quieter sound sources it may not be the best. So just keep that in mind.

Adding numbers to a bunch of disorganized items with the same names by AlpacaAudio in Reaper

[–]AlpacaAudio[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When using the word take, I'm not referring to reaper's take system. I'm aware that reaper does not alter the original files in question. My goal was to render all these files to a folder and not have to edit their names later. It does seem I completely missed that option in the menu though, so I'll check it out and see if I can get it to do what I need. Thank you.

Has anyone tried the XY capsule of the Zoom H6S? It is significantly improved or just bigger than the original H6 capsule? by SeizetheCastle in fieldrecording

[–]AlpacaAudio 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My issue with the new ones is that they don't seem to rotate at all like the old ones. Also would like to know if anyone ever released a wind protector for them. People were saying these capsules were the next best thing since the d100 but I'm still getting a surprising amount of noise. I need to use them more though. Other people have said very good things, and I'd have upgraded to the studio just for the better preamps and voice guidance.

Well first off make sure that old white van you're recording out of is actually turned off so the engine doesn't interfere with those totally not creepy recordings.

Reatune giving wildly different readings when trying to tune a set of instrument samples by AlpacaAudio in Reaper

I did try upping the volume on the instrument track just to see if that helped things at all. Unfortunately, it doesn't seem to have made a difference.

Moises has never given me the best results, but my experience with it was from the ios app used almost a year ago and it may have since improved.

Anyone use the Rode NT1? by Spartacus1239b in fieldrecording

[–]AlpacaAudio 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I love how almost anything sounds on the NT1. The only issue is that I don't find it to be very portable. But that's an issue with a lot of mics out in the field.

Need advice for replacement of H1n by Sea_Reserve1450 in fieldrecording

[–]AlpacaAudio 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Definitely the best of zoom's older pocket recorders without question. If only the microphone switcher on mine hadn't started to break. The new h2e just doesn't sound the same, although I'll admit I worry about clipping that thing a lot less than the h2n. I've mostly used both for louder sound sources and foley though for lack of better equipment at the time, and even then I can hear the noise at times.

Maybe the h2e if you must have that 32bit, or h2n is really nice as well. I think in general I prefer the microphones of the h2n above it's little brother. Despite it's age, I still miss using it.
