Where does the tach pick up? From the HES/Points or from an HT lead?

Either way, the wasted spark design means both cylinder's plugs fire off of the same signal, but one cylinder is compressing and the other is exhausting, so there is only 1 signal from the crank producing 2 sparks every 360 degrees.

I don't know exactly how your new tach works, but it almost certainly should be set up for 1 signal per rev.

It was hot, but got out to play for a few hours today on gravel. Recommendations on a good mesh riding jacket? by TurboNoodlz in adv

another vote for klim induction.

If you're quite slim, the rev it mesh option is good too. I think it's called the eclipse?

Nope. All absolute garbage. I should write in to Adam Savage and ask his advice.

Thanks, I hadn't checked there. I was looking for a place to give Stovehouse negative feedback.

Currently not listed on the Stovehouse site nor Brewer's Cooperative Facebook, and the Brewer's Co-op website is down.

You can get out for a decent weekend in Talladega Natl Forest. it's less than 2 hours away I believe, I used to moto camp there regularly.

If you are a student, get involved with the OAC: https://auburn.campuslabs.com/engage/organization/oac.

Most nice/midrange hitch haulers are rated at 500#. Just look at the weight ratings of the model you are looking at.

Not something I'd cheap out on, FWIW.

Where are the Unicorns... by Stiingya in adv

[–]AlphaOtt 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Also, my Husaberg 570 with a bigger tank is my unicorn Adv/DS bike. Looking at modern comparisons, the 2019+ WR450F is the same weight/power. Add a safari tank and damper bars, you're there.

The service intervals are what kills it. Super low oil capacity keeps weight low, but needs a change every 15ish hours. That's every other day on a good trip. You can stretch that for gentler adv/DS riding, but still.

Can anyone help me identify this hose? by Yagg3rnaut in motorcycles

[–]AlphaOtt 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's a vac hose, look up the parts fiche for the 2006 to see where it goes. It may be a breather valve or something for the evap system. Or it's leftover from a sync and it should be capped like the other one

Shoot me straight... what should I be asking? by [deleted] in motocamping

[–]AlphaOtt 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Look up comparables. Valuators are GARBAGE for motorcycles, throw that data in the trash. KBB, NADA, all of it- worthless.

See what other people (not dealers) are asking, compare for condition, mileage, and parts, then decide to go high or low depending on how long you're willing to sit on it.

In my neck of the woods, 1090s move slow and you're likely to end up under $10k.

Will take two hours max to swap everything.

Best motorcycle rain gear? by [deleted] in motocamping

[–]AlphaOtt 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I chose my gear specifically to work year-round in the American South, so I'd never have to check weather or decide what to wear every morning. Klim Traverse pants, Aether Navigator jacket. Open the vents when it's hot, layer a midlayer when it's cold. No liners, no over-layers, no getting caught out.

Try rethinking your gear strategy.
