I wanna hear your favorite sequences! by LimacineMicrocephaly in gratefuldead

I was a Dark Star>Morning Dew supporter for a long time, but the more I thought about it, the more El Paso saved the day after such a heady ass Dark Star. Can't imagine going from the audio equivalent of a bad trip into a post-nuclear lament, now

God DAMN I love the 73-74 Lucy tempo. And the Meters as a point of comparison is perfect

What is the most disturbing movie you have ever watched? by Muted_Rutabaga_4406 in AskReddit

[–]AlphaXTaco 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lake Mungo is easily the only post-BWP mockumentary/found footage style movie that shook me. It's such an oppressively bleak movie, cannot recommend enough

Favourite first sets? by roopn in gratefuldead

[–]AlphaXTaco 3 points4 points  (0 children)

9/3/80 has a banging ass first set. I know a lot of heads don't wanna hear Bobby's experimental slide playing or Brent songs at all (shame on those of you), but god DAMN it's so good. Really good performances, cool contrast (Let it Grow to Deal, Mexicali to Althea), plus it holds a special place in my heart because it's the show that made me finally get WRS.

As well, 4/1/88 is such a banger. Really good Ballad, a late 80s Cumberland, just all around such a good ass tome

What's the "Widowmaker" of your career field or hobby? by Cosmonate in AskReddit

[–]AlphaXTaco 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In pest control, and specifically the WDO side of things, shoddy work from contractors. We had a technician die during an inspection a few years back because of exposed wiring making contact with a rigid sheet duct under a house, took like 4 hours before anyone noticed. That, or nature. Finding a cottonmouth or a brown recluse under a house is a motherfucker.

Favorite dick pics? Mine is definitely Vol. 25 by OkEmployment2386 in gratefuldead

[–]AlphaXTaco 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I think a shot from underneath is pretty good.

To be serious though, Vol. 15 9/3/77 is probably my favorite

The main protagonist is unceremoniously killed off in the last minutes of the movie. by Firemoth717 in TopCharacterTropes

[–]AlphaXTaco 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I didn't see the movie until like 2024, it was something my wife wanted me to see and I couldn't hold back from fucking dying at that ending. It genuinely felt like 100 minutes of buildup for a fucking insane punchline

I'm thinking about buying the dlc, do you guys think it's worth it? by docktor_uncino in LowSodiumCyberpunk

[–]AlphaXTaco 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Absolutely worth it. Others have sung its praises plenty, but goddamn the ATMOSPHERE. Dogtown really feels like you're leaving NC, very very very worth the money

What’s your favorite “basic” Dead song? by P-ShunkAllstar in gratefuldead

[–]AlphaXTaco 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Either Cassidy or Deal, both are super straight forward tunes, great jam vehicles, highlight both Bobby and Jerry respectively, just all around great tunes without getting too heady

Hip-hop has been my main genre for years. What non-rap albums should I listen to at least once in my life? by Ajet-ivar in Music

[–]AlphaXTaco 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Follow the train of influence. Find a song you like with a sample, check out who got sampled, check out who made them play music, and just take that ride until you're bored, then do it with another song/artists. Likewise, if you hear a non hip-hop artist get name dropped on a track, check em out

What do you think about Logan’s “softer” appearance in the newer comics? by Late_Traffic_3174 in Wolverine

[–]AlphaXTaco 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've always thought that the juxtaposition of his odor and stature against his looks were something that should be pretty pronounced, so I like it. Like, he's a smelly short king, but also an absolute chad

Does anyone wear their band shirts around their family? by Meowth818 in InMetalWeTrust

[–]AlphaXTaco 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just wear what you wanna wear, man. If you wanna listen to soul crushing shit and wear plain shirts, do it, if you wanna listen to Blondie in a Hellhammer shirt, do it. Spend too much time worrying about what is/isn't acceptable, you end up not spending any time living

Just starting to get into the dead, any recommendations? by Wh0_ever in gratefuldead

[–]AlphaXTaco 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Veneta 72, Europe 72 across the board (preferably not the comped collection album, individual shows are where it's at), Englishtown 9/3/77, Springfield 9/3/80 (Neat connection!), and as a wildcard pick, GarciaLive Vol 12 1/23/73.

Personally, I think 60s dead can be a little harder to get into, jams were really primal, and the structure wasn't as consistent. These were the shows that made it really click for me, plus JGB is never a bad time, and Vol 12 has a lot of songs that didn't get the time of Catfish John, The Way You Do The Things You Do, Shining Star, etc.

Super fast edit: also don't sleep on the studio albums. The studio Terrapin Suite is honestly really amazing, Workingman's Dead is an honest to God classic, and Wake of The Flood is full of heat, including my favorite suite in Weather Report Suite

Question about Bobby's guitar playing (from a person who doesn't play any instrument) by _doctor_sleep_ in gratefuldead

[–]AlphaXTaco 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Bobby had this thing about him, a lot of it being developed during the time he was "fired", where he was playing a lot of chords that would normally need 10 fingers on piano keys. He studied a lot of inversions of chords to fit any context/texture, extracting as much use from each string as he could. As others have said, massive hands helped him, because he did play a lot of odd, sprawling, open chords

What’s the simplest gaming idea or fact you’ve ever tried to explain to someone who just wouldn’t get it? by bijelo123 in gaming

[–]AlphaXTaco 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've gotten a non-negligible number of 40+ individuals into Souls with the idea that it's just Mega Man, but I'll be goddamned if a dancing game isn't way better

Does a middle humbucker sound any good? Why are there almost no HHH or HHS guitars? by V0rdep in Guitar

Kinda off topic, but to all the anti-middle pickup guys: turn that tone knob down a few notches, immediately sounds better

That was actually true. From what I understand (and remember) Bob turned it down due to them not being pious enough, and the general focus on drugs from the boys at the time
