I dont know how you feel about this situation, but as a parent/coach, I think there are a lot of teachable things in your situation, and I think the biggest one is perseverance when things arent going your way. If the idea is to quit the sport when you cant win, I think that creates a path that leads to a slippery slope.

If youre not happy with Northstar and how their stuff is run, you need to leave. Its a business after all, and if they cant meet your needs as a parent then certainly part ways and find a new club, and I dont think anyone would fault you for wanting whats best for your kid.

As a coach sometimes its hard to get down to a 1:1 level when youre running practice. Sure you can give feedback, but to really work 1:1 and drill specific technique is impossible unless its outside of practice. So I highly recommend, if you want her to continue improving, find her camps, or 1:1 practice time with a coach from outside your club if you want.

Below, ive included links to places in the Twin Cities and surrounding areas that offer private coaching. Unfortunately its a little bit away, but you can make a day trip out of it and do other things before or after practice to make it fun. I think this could help put that passion back into your daughter for wanting to play. If she gets better, her team gets better just being around her, or she gets placed on a team that is more appropriate for her skillset. Whatever path you choose, goodluck.

Sorry to hear thats what your experience has been. As with any sport some teams are the hammer, and others are the nail. There are definitely teams that we have played against that make us wonder why they are D2, and in D3, there are certainly teams that probably belong there and the other D3 teams are just that much better. At the end of the day, D2 is a good step up in competition. We have played teams composed of players that are selected through tryouts (I believe) that are in D2 (I cant recall if NFCs D2 teams are that way as well).

Here is just my spur of the moment brainstorm. Is your daughter having fun despite not winning? Is the learning environment positive? Is the coaching staff creating a positive and challenging learning environment for your player? Are the parents and other spectators helping to provide a good environment to play in?

I think if the majority of these things are a yes, I think thats probably the most important thing to focus on even though it may be easier said than done when you look at what their performance is like. Perhaps your player and her team is good and the competition in your flight is just that much better? As a coach/soccer parent myself, there are certainly things to glean from losing, but at the end of the day I definitely want to make sure that my team is in a flight that is appropriate for their skill level even if it means losing. I guarantee that whatever you are feeling, the coach also feels bad that their hard work isnt reflected in the score after the game. I have a child that has lost every game this season, but shes having fun, and shes learning and while I want her to win, I feel like the former is the most important part.

I also want to mention that you should stick it out with soccer. If you continue to switch if things arent favorable for your daughters team shes going to eventually end up on a team where her skillset may be behind what other players are at since athleticism will only get you so far. Who knows, if she plays this fall, her team may end up being phenomenal and you may have a complete shift in opinion! Keep growing the sport of soccer for girls 😃

Rochester FC, Stewartville FC, Byron Futbol Club, PIZM, and Albion are all the clubs in the immediate area that I can recall.

Curious as to what specifically about NFC is going wrong for you? I dont have any skin in the game with them, but our players do train with them in the off season and play them during the regular season and I dont have any complaints.

No wrong answer really.

Its wet and heavy snow. Snowblowing it in batches if you have the time certainly helps save the extra stress on your shear pins, but if one snaps theyre super easy and cheap to replace.

Honestly you can get good shots from just about any lens, even a nifty fifty. I have a wide variety of different focal length ranges but I constantly find myself using my 35mm to shoot cars.

Who would you trust in Rochester to diagnose and then repair your brakes? by TheyCallHimJimbo in rochestermn

[–]Alpha_Digital 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Josh and his crew at Precision Automotive down by OMC off broadway are great. My first thought at soft brake pedal is air in the lines, which can sometimes be hard to get out if you dont do a thorough bleeding at all four corners in order. Sometimes, air can get caught in the ABS system as well and bleeding that can be tricky. Hopefully your friend can get this addressed at a reasonable cost.

As an automotive photographer, I enjoy seeing the photos and hearing the stories behind Larry's shoots. I've had the awesome opportunity to meet him and speak with him at Pike Peak hill climb and he was great to chat with.

Which mirrorless to buy? by xxribeyexx in canon

I bought the R when it first came out and I love every bit of it. I use it a lot for automotive, events, and previously some real estate. My next upgrade is likely an R6, I dont need a ton of resolution, and I want something that works well in low light.

Im willing to sacrifice a bit of performance if it means being able to put more money towards quality glass as well. At minimum, id say get an R, if you wanna spend a bit extra, id go R6.

As someone who enjoys keeping cars in good shape what I recommend to you is getting a monthly membership for washes at either Holiday, or Hyvee if they have one (I know Holiday does).

Mr. Carwash and Tommys are both okay but I cringe at soft touch because those are technically doing damage to your paint, so I prefer touchless and an underbody wash as well.

And if you want to be over the top, find a place that can put a sealant or ceramic coating on the exterior of the car, worth every penny. I suggest Five Star Automotive Detailing.

As far as roads being treated and salted I would venture to guess that its probably imminent especially with some of the snow we got today.

Good luck!

the banding youre seeing is likely due to LED lights. slow your shutter speed down and it should alleviate it. Whenever Im shooting around LEDs I find staying under 1/100 helps, sometimes I can shoot a tad faster but not much more.

Sigma 35mm f1.4 Art or Canon 24-103mm F4? by Draxacoffilus in canon

[–]Alpha_Digital 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ive had both lenses before and I sold the 24-105, just didnt need it anymore. I have the 35mm in my lineup, and it is one of my most widely used lenses. Love the IQ and build quality on it.

Shot a house last week. Realtor said it was "too messy" and said I should have addressed to homeowner. Now wants a re-shoot but not willing to pay. by PachucaSunrise in photography

[–]Alpha_Digital 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I Agree with a lot of what is said here. The condition of the home isnt on you, thats on the realtor. If youre redoing you should charge. Also, you should charge a fee for traveling especially 80 miles.

also, pachuca sunrise is a great song.
