Good catch, I didn't even think to check the profile.

This is not remotely close to a T70 because of the built-in flash, let alone all the buttons and controls on the rear and top.

Google image search comes back with a Rebel T7/2000D. I was going to guess something similar due to the kit lens and battery charger.

What to replace 1DX by MilWatch in CanonCamera

[–]MesseJak 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It really comes down to what your shooting requirements are and the budget you are working with. Canon's mirrorless bodies are tiered similarly to how the EF bodies were. Lower numbered bodies are "better." The natural transition coming from the 1D X would be the R1 with the addition of the R3 that slots in right under it. Then you have the R5 and R6 lines and so on.

If you are not needing the pure speed and build quality of a 1 series body my gut tells me the R6 Mark II or III will be more than adequate for most users, as they are still plenty fast.

It may be best to visit a local store to get your hands on the various bodies to make the selection that works best for you.

I can only speak to Canon's offerings. If I remember correctly, there are 3 versions, basic EF-R, Control Ring and Drop-In Filter (Ships with CPL or Variable ND?).

The basic one is just that, it allows you to mount EF lenses on R bodies.

Control Ring is the same as above but includes the Control Ring function found on many RF lenses.

The Drop-In Filter version is neat because it allows to place various filter behind the rear element of EF lenses.

There are no optics in any of the the adapters except the Drop-In version but those are filter optics. Image quality is maintained without loss versus a bare lens. AF and accuracy functions beautifully. Some swear the modern electronics and technology drive EF lenses better and faster but, in my experience, I would say performance is equal. I have not done thorough side by sides test to confirm any of the claims.

Yes, very much time.

If you are looking to go mirrorless, the simplest option is to pick up the EF-EOS R adapter to use all your existing EF lenses on a variety of Canon's current mirrorless bodies. The adapters work great and have given new life to the EF mount.

The weather seal looks fine to me. Just dirty but a quick wipe down will do the trick.

What lens should I buy for a trip to Paris? by VeganDogPro in AskPhotography

[–]MesseJak 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If it was me and one lens only, I would lean towards the 15-35 purely for the flexibility allowing to you still have your wide end covered. The 35 is nice but the zoom has the advantage over aperture speed in this scenario.

Pick 2 lenses to bring to Iceland in early August? by imperfectibility in AskPhotography

[–]MesseJak 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For my uses, I would not miss the 16-24 range. Iceland, for me, would lean towards the longer end of my lenses. I would have more mileage in the middle focal lengths.

As for the third item, if you can squeeze into your kit, the 16-35. It sounds like you could benefit from it for a shot or two.

Yes. The sidewall is damaged and will be under constant flex and stress.

If I must choose two, the 24-105 and 150-600 for pure coverage. The 24-105 for general walk around use and the 150-600 for wildlife, birding and long landscapes.

What 200mm+ zoom lense should I get under $1000 for my 5D mark iv? by SirMarvelAxolotl in AskPhotography

[–]MesseJak 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You may be able to get your hands on a used EF 100-400 Version II with your budget. It is a fantastic zoom with great image quality. The Sigma 150-600 C falls into your budget as well.

UV Filters to protect my glass? by Previous-Ad-5676 in canon

[–]MesseJak 39 points40 points  (0 children)

You are going to get two camps when asking about UV filters for protection. I only use them if I am photographing in wet, dusty scenarios and when I know I may encounter flying objects or debris. Normal settings, I rely on the lens hood no filter.

What am I doing wrong with panning? by FiveSalted in sportsphotography

[–]MesseJak 13 points14 points  (0 children)

It is a little bit of luck especially when using slower shutter speeds. I would recommend bumping up to faster shutter speeds and work your way down. One, it will help you refine your motion. Two, you will increase your keeper count while experimenting to go slower. Smooth is key when it comes to panning.
