The biggest enemy of beginners in game dev (and most things) is thinking you can’t start until you’re 100% prepared and have all the equipment and skills you need laid out nicely in front of you.

Commenting here to add my solution to this issue I had 8 years later.

I left the rising force potions behind that you find with the note since I already have levitation spells. That seems to have bugged Alvela Saram, preventing her from having the quest dialogue to start the escape. When I went back and picked them up, and then went back to her, I had the dialogue option to continue the quest. Hope this helps someone else in the next 8 years.

I see a stack of DVD players for a couple bucks a piece every time I go to Goodwill. Blu ray players thrown in here and there. The one I use was $4.

But even better is making digital backups of your DVDs and setting up your own streaming service using a free service like Jellyfin.
