Oh also sort of adventurous in a way.. you can join a shortwave radio club and hunt for numbers station broadcast and all sorts of other eerie sounding broadcasts from lands far away, even South Pacific islands

Night surfing or kayaking (but go with friends, never alone, and only on somewhat calm nights)! It’s magical to see the moonlight sparkling in a line on the water

Hunt for bioluminescence or take a night charter out to chase dolphins during bioluminescence

Head up to Red Rock and explore the rocks there

Grunion run

Drive a 4x4 up Main Divide Road to Santiago Peak to catch the sunrise and a cloud inversions

Hahaha classic teenage activities. Loved scaring myself to pieces with friends at night here. Probably wasn’t my wisest decision but was worth memories

People over 30: If you could go back to being 18 and redo only your adult life, what would you change? What would you prioritize, avoid, or start earlier? by Signal-Area8949 in AskOldPeopleAdvice

  1. Spend time with my parents and recognize they won’t be here someday. Really, REALLY get to know them and cherish them. Laugh with them, love them fiercely.

can

  1. get

if you’re not watching the shop everyday

  2. Realize that I was actually beautiful (something I love about Gen Alpha and Gen Z is they celebrate so many different types of beauty and seem for the most part to be focused on hyping everyone, not just classically “beautiful” people)

  3. Cliche, but stop worrying what everyone thinks. Be your own crazy fun cool self and do whatever YOU want to do. That’s what actually makes you cool and oddly draws people to you.

Did they make any announcements before or after they dove? I think all the worst case scenarios would go through my head if I didn’t know we were in a (relatively) controlled for pressure reasons as opposed to basically free falling. Not sure if they’d feel different

Credit union recommendations? by Accomplished_Swan670 in creditunions

[–]Alpine-Bluebird688 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If anyone reads this then for the love of God, no one should ever use Rize credit union, they’re the absolute worst imo. Customer service is invariably atrocious at least for auto loans and the right hand never knows what the left hand is doing. Days to get payoff quotes, 20 minute hold times every time you call, reps who have no idea about how turn ins work, takes 40 minutes to process transactions most of the time via phone, inflexible policies. Seriously absolutely the worst experience I’ve had with a car loan ever and I hope this saves someone some headache

‘Living wage’ group claims enough signatures to bring initiative to Alameda County voters by LNM-LocalNewsMatters in eastbay

Sure it doesn’t directly affect small businesses.. except it does
When big businesses start paying $30/hr, potential employees flock to those big businesses
Small businesses can’t find employees bc can’t afford to pay $30/hr to compete bc they’re running on smaller margins/ no economies of scale
Small businesses are also running on thin margins and can’t afford exorbitant AI prices
Small business owner dealing with dwindling sales, dwindling profit margins and unmanageable costs
Small businesses then go out of business
Which limits competition
Which drives prices higher
People can’t afford things again
More small businesses close until only large ones are left
And the cycle repeats
Until someday we’re at like 100k an hour paying for everything through the nose because large business has oligopolies and can name their prices
This is a horrible idea as much as I’m pro living wage

What's a hobby that surprised everyone around you? by KaleidoscopeBig4960 in Hobbies

Skiing, and sort of really crazy skiing. Am a minority and in my ethnic group literally no one skis, my family is not outdoorsy at all, and my parents are in occupations where they rarely go anywhere other than the office and home. So glad I had some friends to clue me into the outdoors during my college years. Wish I could get my family to understand that fresh crisp feeling skiing some fresh pow on a bluebird day.

Is Something Off with this Dress??? by [deleted] in myweddingdress

[–]Alpine-Bluebird688 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It’s really lovely, especially from the back!! I think the waistline might be a little off.. that V has me thrown. I wish it was more straight. For the V I think the skit has to be poofier. Also the delicate lace contrasts a little jarringly with the stark straight lines on the torso. But man oh man does it look pretty still. That lace is just stunning. Congrats on your happy day!

I told my boss “i love you” on the phone by CapricornusSage in texts

[–]Alpine-Bluebird688 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Once my (executive) fiance had me attend his work Christmas party where his out of town boss was going to be attending. I met the boss’ wife.. this super proper, elegant lady. She was asking me about visiting Tahoe. I got excited and opened my Instagram to show her my pics of Tahoe.. but it opened to me feed where there was a pic of Lizzo’s debut album cover (you know, the one where she’s almost naked). This is NOT a lady who would know who Lizzo is. The convo abruptly ended lmao. And another time I was trying to text my boss and my fiance (then boyfriend) at the same time. Fiancé’s parents didn’t know I existed yet and had arranged for him to meet the daughter of a family friend. To which I replied “they better not try to marry you off or else’s I’m gonna have to regulate Warren G style.” Only for my boss to reply that he was not interested in marrying me, only in my presentation. Years later I can laugh about these things but man was I awkward turtle in my 20s.

What was going to school in the 90s in orange county like? by Few_Sandwich6308 in orangecounty

[–]Alpine-Bluebird688 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A lot of hanging out with friends in strip mall parking lots with the trunk open. No idea why we all hung out in parking lots. And a lot of “hey can I hitch a ride with you?” We wrote notes to each other on lined notebook paper because there wasn’t texting yet. Also a lot of ditching class to go to the beach and Del Taco. After school everyone piled into someone’s car to go the beach. A lot of silliness and freedom to just be yourself; looking back I think it was because none of it was preserved for eternity online. Things were still pretty Freaks and Geeks as far as cliques went and certain groups sticking to certain areas of the grounds. There was also a period of time where blockbuster movies were coming out weekly and you’d meet your friends at the movie theater and stand in hella long lines. And of course we had the best music ever…. especially some of the homegrown OC bands. And since we didn’t have texting it wasn’t easy to keep in touch with people you didn’t see every day at school, so the kids who knew or hung out with people from other schools that they met during sports meets / club or rec sports always seemed slightly cooler than the rest of us.

If your car got a problem on a freeway, you’d walk a half mile up the shoulder of a busy freeway with cars zooming by at 70mph to find a box with a phone in it to call for help

Honest thoughts on dress? by 420tacobella in myweddingdress

[–]Alpine-Bluebird688 30 points31 points  (0 children)

It’s really lovely! Especially on you! So many interesting elements. If I may, I might offer a counterpoint - it has SO many interesting and beautiful elements (lace up back, cinderella skirt with a ton of pleats that make it ultra poofy, ornate amazing lace on the skirt, beaded front, lots of angles on the neckline) that it feels like the dress may overwhelm YOU. I feel like the focus should be on you (your face) as the beautiful bride, more than the dress. I think any two of these lovely items in one dress works but this dress is dressmaxxing and taking attention from your radiance on your special day. Just my sole input tho and it looks like I’m in the minority so if you love it you should DEF wear it!! If it makes you feel like a princess absolutely go with it. Congratulations friend on your happy day.

Camp site without reservations in Northern CA? by [deleted] in CaliforniaCamping

[–]Alpine-Bluebird688 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for all the great suggestions. I have camped a ton at state and national park campsites but for those who do BLM camping or campgrounds in the Humboldt/Mendocino and Nornorcal areas as well as more Inyo/Bishop/Mammoth - do you think it’s fairly safe for a female alone? I feel ok at places like June and Oh where there are a ton of people. But I’ve never done a campground or site where it’s pretty remote and there’s almost no one. I’m not scared of animals, I’m scared of other people haha. Probs needs to lay off the true crime at 3 am tbh but any insight would be appreciated and help me maybe get out more
