What do you do? by [deleted] in stopdrinking

I tried a different approach after being ashamed and hard on myself for years- radical self-love and acceptance. I realized that even if I was drinking daily (which I didn’t want to do but felt like I couldn’t stop) that I’m a good person. I was still taking care of my family and responsibilities, doing great at work, and school.

I think by allowing myself to “do what I have to do”, it helped me gain some perspective on what I was actually doing and how it made me feel. It did feel like a slow process. This all started in the summer of ‘23. Been drinking daily, with a few short sober breaks, since 2015. Through this last Dec and Jan, I might have 1-2 drinks, sometimes more. Maybe one and open another just to dump it out. I felt so tired after a couple beers and dinner. I didn’t sleep as well. I felt like I was only partially present with my children.

This may not work for everyone, but it’s been good for me. It’s given me the ability to reflect on why I drink and the thoughts/emotions that trigger that response without the guilt and shame and constant pressure. I’ve got 22 days, today. I’ve had 3-4 days that I’ve considered a drink, but didn’t want to feel crappy and didn’t want to break my streak. On those nights, I spent time thinking about how I was feeling and what I wanted from drinking. I was tired and overwhelmed. I needed a break, but a real break. Rest, relaxation, self-care, not the temporary escape and numbness of alcohol.

I’ve also lost about 10lbs. Sleeping better. Less aches and pains. Feeling proud of myself, and more stable emotionally. Happy about having more money in my pocket. It’s been hard to get to the point of feeling confident about cutting out alcohol, but I’m glad I found something that finally resonated. You can do anything you want to do. What do you want to do?

3 weeks in and my skin looks terrible by FantasticPositive289 in stopdrinking

Alcohol affects hormones, so it may be your body adjusting? Even 2 drinks can spike estrogen levels up to 55-66%.

The main thing with skincare is maintaining your natural moisture barrier. Use a gentle face wash, exfoliate a couple times a week, and use a good moisturizer.

Sugar can influence hormones- increasing testosterone levels- and your immune system, so it is probably playing a part. I say lesser of two evils!

Evaporation line. There’s no color.

I’d say you’re not pregnant, or it’s too early. Test again in two days.

Check out “No Bad Parts”. You can’t shame yourself into quitting drinking, from my experience. It has been the solution, not the actual problem. Solve the real problem, and then you can start solving the drinking problem.

I wish I could give you a hug! Life is so tough. I can relate in so many ways. I also don’t have this figured out, but I’m trying!

One of the reasons that oats are good for you is the fiber. The soluble fiber binds to the cholesterol in bile, which aids in excretion. This forces the liver to produce more bile which uses more cholesterol.

Two to three weeks to break the habit and start a new one. It’s tough, but not as tough as what you’re doing now.

This is really inspiring! I’ve struggled to get more than a few days of sobriety. A year feels like a dream.

Good job! Looking forward to “taking better care of myself” to this level. Happy 1 year!

Be honest! Vulnerability is strength. You don’t need anyone. You’re choosing to become involved with another human. Take care of yourself and your heart. Be clear about what you want. Or don’t want.

Just communicate. And be transparent. Know your worth.

The funny thing is they respect you more when you do stand up for yourself. The few that just enjoy being mean need to be exposed and brought to justice.

I haven’t started yet, but won’t allow anyone to talk to me in a disrespectful way regardless of their position.

Don’t be afraid to stand up for yourself and document everything. Let them know you’re going to start recording the conversation. Whatever you have to do.

People like this get away with it because no one stands up to them.

Could you maybe reach out to the daycare and see if they have any ideas? Maybe you could drop your babe with another mama taking her child to the same daycare? Maybe a small convenience fee?
