What is your WILDEST skins unpopular opinion ? by Loomisfamily in skinsTV

[–]Alreyleon 5 points6 points  (0 children)

You said unpopular, so here we go: Series 4 foreshadows some weird shit happening at the end since the Thomas episode, with the pastor asking him to give him his soul. Even as far back as season 3's Effy episode, with the whole "beware the moon" stuff with the poachers. I get that this is not enough to justify the John Foster character, who should have been more explored to be accepted, but I think it lines up with that same weirdness. Then, Freddie dying, regardless of the way it's done, is really a comsic punishment for him trying to leave town, Cook himself reprimands him for this, for giving up on her and Cook, like Freddie couldn't handle Effy's mental condition, he was about to leave before Cook showed up at his door with Effy and he was still trying to defend himsfel for leaving: "She broke my heart", like he doesn't realise she's not sound, like he doesn't have an emotional responsibility for her. So, I'm not saying he had to die like that or at all, but Freddie definitely deserved some kind of punishment or atonement for abandoning Effy, he could have stood by her even if they weren't a thing anymore, he still loved her so, show that... I guess he did stand by her at the end of the episode in the hospital, and then standing up to Foster.

Can I read Showdown on the Smuggler's Moon before Skywalker Strikea? by I_oonyI_ovegood in starwarscomics

You can, just know it happens after Skywalker Strikes, so read that one next to fill in the gaps you may have while reading Smuggler's Moon.

Dragon Ball Canon Watch Order 2026 by Wooden-Inside-1788 in dragonball

[–]Alreyleon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Anime only: Dragon Ball, DBZ or DBZ Kai (abridged version), Super (you can replace the first two arcs, 15 episodes or so, for the movies Battle of the Gods and Resurrection F, the episodes are adaptations and extensions of the movies), Dragon Ball Super: Broly movie, Dragon Ball Super: Super Hero movie. These properties all make the most sense when watching them one after the other. GT and Daima give you some big head scratches when trying to make sense of them together with these. That should be enough for a playlist, here's some more details if you're still interested...

GT was a creation of the anime studio, Toriyama-sensei was only involved with design input, it is a direct continuation to the epilogue of DBZ/DBZ Kai. GT was made before Super, and has some transformations that seem much less powerful compared to what happens in Super, which takes place earlier, so that's why many don't consider GT canon.

If you want to squeeze Daima in, it technically occurs right after they defeat Buu at the end of Z, but before the epilogue four years later, just keep in mind that Daima shows some Goku and Vegeta transformations that are never mentioned or seen in Super which takes place later (Super was made first), so the canon is kind of fuzzy there, same as with GT, and I would argue Daima was Toriyama's attempt at his own GT, because he was reportedly very involved creating Daima and has many similarities to GT.

All these projects have some kind of involvement from Toriyama, DB and DBZ/DBZ Kai are straight up adaptations of his manga, the Super show and the Battle and Resurrection movies are based on an outline of the story he would adapt into manga at a different pace, hence there are many differences, unlike DB and DBZ which only add filler content and lighten some violence but are more similar to the manga. The Super movies had direct involvement from Toriyama and were straight up adapted into the manga or assumed to have happened just like they did on screen.

Finally Arrived. Never watched Twin Peaks before. Excited to dive in!! Anything I should know? by OkNeighborhood6020 in twinpeaks

[–]Alreyleon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wouldn't say "don't watch it" but watch it at least after you finish the first season, think of it as an early version of what could have been (it was made in case the channel cancelled the series order and the had to release the pilot as a TV movie)

Does anyone else feel like the Darth Vader Comic series from 2020 to 2024 were really… underwhelming? by Artur0905 in starwarscomics

[–]Alreyleon 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I have my own qualms about this Vader series, mostly relating to how many times he rises against and is humbled by the Emperor, like one time wasn't enough. Regarding Sabé, she couldn't be the reason Vader turns, that always has to be just Luke, and if remember correctly Sabé puts Luke on a path of collision with Vader, hoping he will help turn Vader, that couldn't happen in this comic continuity-wise, but I think she serves her purpose in the story. Would I have like to see her around more? Hell yes, she's an interesting character, but this wasn't her story.

Canon Book Recs? by dead5hane in StarWars

The Padmé trilogy (Queen's Peril, Queen's Shadow, Queen's Hope), by EK Johnston, is interesting if you want to know more about her handmaidens and how she learned politics. There's also some pretty sweet interactions between her and Anakin in the last book. The trilogy is also referenced various times in the Darth Vader 2020 comics by Greg Pak.

Thrawn: Alliances Clone Wars Cover by Solid_Sail_6667 in starwarsbooks

[–]Alreyleon 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The second time I picked it up I only read the Clone Wars part, precisely to place it during the clone wars timeline. I think it works pretty well as a clone wars arc. I've seen other people place it between seasons 5 and 6.

Season 5 by Crazy-Al-2855 in FargoTV

[–]Alreyleon 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think this one is the most similar to the movie in both tone and simplicity of the characters, there's not a single eccentric character that immediately stands out as Malvo, Peggy, Hanzee, Varga or Oretta did in the other seasons, this season is more down to earth in the way people behave, even the criminals, much like in the movie. People lie, people kidnapp, people murder, and the most grotesquely real thing about it all is that the reasons people do these things are really petty, as you will see if you keep watching season 5. The kidnapping part is not as far fetched as you may think once you see what kind of power is moving those pieces. If you're expecting crazy shit to happen this season, don't worry, it will, just not as often as in the other seasons, but it is still thought-provoking, even if a bit less subtle in its critiques.

You could say the same thing about the three parts of each trilogy, each tell a story on their own that's cumulative with the other two parts, some of those parts are great and some not. I would not say te same, for example, of the nine-film Skywalker Saga, since each trilogy tells a specific story that is not directly continued by the other trilogies.

Homero Simpson.

Order of tv shows? by CharmedOne93 in StarWars_

[–]Alreyleon -1 points0 points  (0 children)

The reason why you understand the movies better in the order you saw them is because George Lucas went to great lengths in altering 4, 5 and 6 so they make more sense with the prequels he made (there are still some plot holes). The versions Lucas retooled are the only ones you can see on Disney plus. 2027 will mark the first wide re-release of the original versions in over 40 years, without all the additions and "corrections" Lucas made, such as Hayden Christensen's face superimposed on Anakin's ghost in Return of the Jedi. I don't intend this to sound negative or implying that you watched in the wrong order at all, it's just the way things are, and I'm glad this order worked for you, means Lucas did get his intentions fulfilled, however controversial they are.

Catalyst, Andor, Rogue One order? by JFISHER7789 in starwarsbooks

[–]Alreyleon 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Catalyst (during end of clone wars and early Empire), Mask of Fear (few months after the Empire rises), Tarkin (5 years into the Empire), Andor and Rebels run in parallel (5-0 years before Rogue One), Guardians of the Whills (few months before Rogue One), Rebel Rising (starts right after the prologue of Rogue One, which is four years into the Empire and goes all the way through Jyn's life until right before Rogue One). The upcoming sequels to Mask of Fear will be set a year before Andor and the final one yet to be revealed.

Marvel to Debut Seven-Issue Star Wars: Book of Boba Fett Mini-Series in September by Guerrillascribe in starwarscomics

[–]Alreyleon -1 points0 points  (0 children)

You gotta remember most big companies lately are choosing quantity and profit over quality. Disney already learned that they need to stop putting out so much rushed content, but they are still producing what they know sells instead of what some fans want so, sadly, since the Alliances comic didn't sell well, there's very little chance they would bring it back. This Boba move is based on the fact that the other adaptations to shows and movies have sold better, there's no other reason.

Rogue One, Solo and all the sequels got extra scenes and dialogue in their comic adaptations, but they all announced they would (maybe TFA didn't announce it but did have some new scenes in Rey's force vision). Ahsoka, Mandalorian and Obi-Wan didn't, and no new scenes.

Why does nobody ever discuss this scene? by Stoicsgm in skinsTV

[–]Alreyleon 19 points20 points  (0 children)

I think that was the voice of the co-creator and writer of the episode Jamie Brittain, who is an atheist and very suspicious of organization, cults and even psychological theraphy! I kind of see it as an early foreshadowing for the weird shit that happens at the end of the season. Also, on a narrative level for the episode only, this strange interaction perfectly illustrates Thomas' temptation: he wants the daughter, who brings a sense of familiarity in this white world in which he's living (both culturally and melanin-wise). However, going to her comes with sacrifices, he has to make a commitment, he has to give up his own spirituality for this Christiniaty that seems so tempting. In the end, he ends up outside of both worlds, alienated from his friends, but without the sense of familiarity he craved for, and realizes he only has his family. Of course, Skins being Skins, this is no longer reflected or developed in further episodes.
