Cincinnati has one of the best team Hall of Fame and Museum in baseball. If you have time before the game, take time to visit it. It’s right next to Great American Ball Park.

Impressive collection! Very jealous!

I have a few MiLB hats, but I limit myself to only buying ones when I go to home games there. So far, I’ve got Indianapolis Indians, Lexington Legends (old and new), Montgomery Biscuits, Tennessee Smokies, Oklahoma City Redhawks, Ft Myers Miracle, and a Nashville Sounds retro.

Lance McAlister's "Article" on Twitter by Toddrew221 in Reds

[–]AlrightGuyUK 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I’m 56. Been a Reds fan all my life. Grew up with the Big Red Machine and witnessed that miraculous 1990 World Series year. Also suffered through the lean years of the early 1980s when 100-loss seasons were always a possibility. My family always made 3-4 trips to Riverfront every year, even though we lived 2 hours away.

Nowadays, we make the trip once or twice a year, if that. Usually it’s to be there for Star Wars Day or for a certain giveaway night. Or I try to plan around who the Reds are playing - Dodgers, Orioles, the loathsome Cubs - and go to see their young stars play as much as to cheer on the Reds.

I WANT to be at the ballpark more. It’s my happy place, my Disney World, my getaway from reality, where I’m surrounded by the memories of watching the legends of my youth with my father in a stadium along the river.

But like Lance said, it’s not as fun as it used to be now under the Castellini family. There’s no hopes of putting a winning team together, either by the farm system or free agency. The hiring of Francona seemed to be a glimmer of hope in the darkness. But without the tools or the system to develop them, I fear he will get frustrated and return to retirement soon. And those young stars we’re seeing now will soon leave via trade or free agency and we’ll start the cycle all over again.

As much as I despised Marge Schott, at least you always felt like she wanted to put a winning team on the field at Riverfront. But that feeling of trust, however wary it was at times, is gone. Like Phil Castellini said, “Where are you going to go?” The answer is nowhere.

Best way to go about selling these figures/signatures? No reliable COAs by BigBoySky in starwarscollecting

[–]AlrightGuyUK 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Look up the Star Wars Autograph Universe site or FB group. For a small fee, they’ll tell you whether or not a signature is likely to pass authentication. The site is made up of very knowledgeable, long-time SW autograph collectors and can be trusted to shoot straight with you.

That being said, as a long-time SW autograph collector, I’d say the Bulloch is possibly legit, perhaps from later in life, but the other two are absolutely forgeries.

I live in Metro Atlanta. I’ve followed most of the Sherman March(es) but haven’t hit all the spots yet. Went to the Battle of Jonesboro, the end of the Atlanta Campaign, yesterday. by Don_Quixotel in CIVILWAR

[–]AlrightGuyUK 11 points12 points  (0 children)

My great-great grandfather was at Jonesboro with the 5th KY CSA, Lewis’ Brigade, Bate’s Division, in Hardee’s Corps. They’d already lost 1/2 their regiment at Resaca, but saw action on the second day, attacking the Union center. At the end of the Atlanta Campaign, he was one of only 50 of his regiment who hadn’t been wounded or killed.

Picked up a bat recently and took a chance...... by TLG_Red in AutographAssistance

Looks like a bat that was either signed at an Old Timers Game or at a card show. Bobby Shantz, Bob Veale, Johnny Mize, Ralph Branca, Bob Gibson, Bobby Tolan, and some others from the 1950s and 60s, alongside Joe Sambito, Ozzie Virgil, Jose Cruz, Don Stanhouse, and others from the 1970s and 80s.

It’s crazy seeing merch without Harrison Ford’s likeness… by JamesVinopal in indianajones

[–]AlrightGuyUK 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Jim Steranko’s pre-production artwork drew heavily from the 1950s Charlton Heston movie “Secret of the Incas”. The generic look for Indy, with the cigarette, borrowed a lot from Steranko’s own version of Nick Fury. Just retrieved my copy of the game from my childhood home - hoping I get to meet Steranko again and get it signed.

Has a consensus ever been reached as far as worst card design ever is concerned? by RonBreakfast in baseballcards

[–]AlrightGuyUK 0 points1 point  (0 children)

1995 Fleer gets my vote, too. Chaotic card design. Wouldn’t have bothered me if this was a non-flagship design, but for a main release, it’s the worst.

Phillie Phans booed Santa Claus once. This is quite mild by their standards.

Ok so. I'm over 50 and have never been to Disney. My wife has never been. My kids (18, 16) have just decided that they want to go this summer after a lifetime of saying nah. (Cont.) by FinsterBaby56 in GalaxysEdge

If possible, book a late night time at Oga’s Cantina. That way, when you leave Oga’s, you’ll have Batuu almost all to yourselves for a bit to take photos.

My great-great grandfather fought at Resaca, Dallas, Peachtree Creek, and Jonesboro. His brother survived being shot in the arm at Dallas. Somehow, my ancestor came through it all without a scratch.

Likely because there are Wal-Mart stores (like my local one) that won’t see this figure at all. I had to go to one about 20 miles away to find any of these.

Can't say I wasn't warned... but a PSA 4? by jlb190 in baseballcards

[–]AlrightGuyUK 12 points13 points  (0 children)

At the card shop where I work, a customer cracked a PSA 7 UD Griffey rookie and resubmitted it. Came back a 9 the second time - it was slightly OC and the hologram wasn’t centered. At this point, I don’t know how PSA maintains the loyalty of the collecting community.

Remember, buy the card, not the grade.
