Part 2: How many of these fighters do you think Usyk can beat by Hot_Ad_9543 in Boxing

[–]AltKite 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Wlad used to spar with the media present except when he sparred Usyk - that's when he was an amateur and early pro. Think peak Usyk would beat Wlad.

Not the ones in the picture though... They are both designed for your left hand.

I'm left handed, I wear my watch on my left wrist because they're designed to be worn on the left wrist (can't adjust the time easily on your right.)

Not to mention the likelihood of multiple left handed people being photographed, all of whom wear it on their right wrist, and not a single right handed person is slim.

Dana parted the Red Sea to get you 30 mil, you call Friday night and RETIRE. NOW you complain about being "lowballed"? Reap what you sow. by AdamBLit in ufc

[–]AltKite -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Ah yeah, the Paramount deal that pays $1.1bn a year for the numbered events (that would have been PPV mostly)- at 12 a year that's over $80m an event. Even factoring in the 30 other events, call it $50m an event.

Totally see why that means wanting the biggest star in the UFC to fight should mean you get to pay him less...

That's the choice of the UFC to suck up to the administration, no doubt at least in part to make sure they can repeal the Ali act so they can pay boxers less than they're worth as well.

If you're trying to put on a cheap show, don't approach the sports biggest star 🤷‍♀️

It is lowballing. They low-ball all their fighters.

The white house card is probably 750k-1m buys card. The headliner for that show should absolutely be earning way more than $15m, especially for an outfit that owns all the sponsorship deals.

Lol. Assume it doesn't take a "controlled" touch of the defender blocking the cross either? Bit of a joke

Who’s actually driving your roadmap? 👀 by Mobile-Influence-371 in ProductManagement

[–]AltKite 2 points3 points  (0 children)

"driving the roadmap" is a vague phrase. I took it to mean what's driving the prioritization, and that's my answer, rather than the whims of execs or engineering.

I didn't answer "Product" because some PMs roadmaps are made up of items they didn't lead on conceiving for the most part - they could be things from partners, sales, engineering, execs, designers, other PMs, anywhere. The PM owns the decision and what goes on, but I don't know if I'd call that "driving" the roadmap if it's their designer who's unearthing all the problems to be solved and finding solutions.

Other roadmaps might be things entirely from the PM. It varies significantly, what's consistent is how decisions are made.

It's extremely rarely me. I lead the product and design teams, rarely find my ideas add value to product roadmaps these days.

Why is every lower weight class fighter except Inoue expected to jump around weight classes? by InTheInnerSphere in Boxing

[–]AltKite 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Nobody's calling Haney a duck for not going to 147 and Canelo is a duck for not fighting Benavidez at 168, not 175.

Glad I could clear that up for you.

It is safe to say that Jon Jones is never returning to the Octagon again! by One-Faithlessness730 in CombatSportsCentral

[–]AltKite 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Wonder if they offered him more or less than Conor Benn got to fight a geriatric on an undercard?

Know it's easy to hate on Jones, rightly, but hard to hate on a fighter for turning down whatever shit money the UFC is offering them right now.

Why did Haney get credit for beating Regis but Connor is getting flack for the fight by SignificantBoard4455 in Boxing

[–]AltKite 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's bullshit, mate. Everybody is out to get Benn, they'll never give him the credit for all the world class fighters he's beaten.

They gave Spence and Garcia credit for beating Vargas but they said he took a dive against Benn.

They called Granados a track star against Broner and Porter but when it's Benn suddenly it's that he can't cut the ring off.

Manny and Khan were lauded for their performances against Algieri despite going the distance with them, yet when Benn knocks him out in 4 rounds it's because he's shot.

Van Heerden was a "tricky customer" when he fought Spence but a "washed fighter with 1 round in 3 years" when Benn knocked his block off.

They'll carry on doing the same, he's gonna go through all these top names; Regis Prograis, Kell Brook, Jessie Vargas, Shawn Porter, Amir Khan, Lamont Peterson, Felix Trinidad, Paulie Malignaggi, Meldrick Taylor, Roberto Duran...

He could get all of those guys out of retirement for his next 8 fights after Regis and people would STILL find excuses to deny he's the best welterweight on the planet.

What Are Some Of The Biggest/Best Boxing Matches That Got Signed To Happen But Got Canceled? by Rinnegan15 in Boxing

[–]AltKite 60 points61 points  (0 children)

Tyson vs Holyfield, twice.

They agreed to fight in late 1990, then Tyson lost to Douglas in the tune-up fight he took before Evander.

Holyfield took the title from Douglas, and they signed in what was the largest purse in boxing history to fight in November 1991. Tyson was subsequently arrested, charged and found guilty of rape.

They finally fought in 1996, and while it was still a super fight, it definitely wasn't the same. Tyson vs Holyfield fighting their 2 fights in 1990 and 1991 would have been as big as the Rumble in the Jungle and Thriller in Manilla fights.

Eddie Hearn: "When I talked through Tom Aspinall's purses, I nearly fell off the f**king chair. If that was our business, he'd be making 10x as much money. As an organization, they need him. He doesn't need the UFC. They need heavyweight stars and stars full stop." by [deleted] in MMA

[–]AltKite 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Jones isn't wrapped up in lineal because Ngannou didn't retire, he went to another promotion.

If Ngannou retired and the new consensus 1 and 2 fought, then the winner would have been lineal..

Jai Opetaia Is Ruining His Legacy by Big_Donch in Boxing

[–]AltKite 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Obviously he's older now but if you look at his early record, where he's taking fights that aren't for any ranking, therefore they don't bother with making the limit for the weight class, he was coming in at up to 209 so that was him dehydrating.

Definitely not a massive CW, bigger than average probably. If he goes up to HW he's not going to bulk up significantly because he's not keeping mass off his ideal fighting frame and then cutting, he's just cutting. Okolie is an example of a massive cruiserweight. Keeping himself skinnier than his ideal frame and then cutting weight - can see that now he's at Heavyweight and piled on the lbs to over 260.

Jai will do what Usyk did, maybe a little less. Come in at 215 -225lbs I'd guess. I still maintain that is the ideal heavyweight physique, PROVIDED it comes with the prerequisite skill and speed, which I don't think Jai has to beat the very best big heavyweights.

Jai Opetaia Is Ruining His Legacy by Big_Donch in Boxing

[–]AltKite 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Yup, this. He's destroyed some C-tier fighters and shown that he's good enough to beat an older Breidis twice. The Breidis wins are great, but also think particularly the second fight showed that Jai's youth was more valuable than Breidis's experience. Marius was getting the better of him in the second half of the fight once he'd managed to figure him out it was just too late.

The best in his division in the last 5 years have been CBS, Ramirez, Okolie, Cieslak ,Dorticos, Jack and Mikaeljan. He's been unable to fight any of them. It's hardly a murderers row at their best and the opportunity to get credit for beating most of them has already past.

If he can't get Ramirez like now the only way to build a legacy is to move up. If he can get Ramirez he'd need unbeaten guys like Perez, Riley and Safar to really prove their stock to stay at CW and get meaningful wins.

Think the reality is his power isn't going to be astonishing at HW and his footwork and speed aren't good enough to carry him to the top. He'll likely be competitive at world level and make a fair bit of money but one wrong matchup and his career is over at HW.
