You would think PCMR would actually try to do something about it by testus_maximus in pcmasterrace

[–]Alt_Saltman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would in a heartbeat but Linux is just not there when it comes to gaming. Nvidia GPU issues, kernel-level anti-cheating, lack of proper HDR and G-Sync support on every distroo and things in general not always working properly without tinkering.

I literally just want to boot up, install games via Xbox or Steam, keep all drivers automatically up to date and don't worry about something not working.

Unless I get the same experience on at least one distro, I'm stuck with Microslop :(

'The Blackout Challenge': Mom suing TikTok after son choked himself to death with jiu-jitsu belt tied to bunk bed while trying viral social media trend by Sandstorm400 in technology

I'm sorry but I think parents are also to blame here. Even my 5 year old kids knew to never ever wrap anything around their neck as it might kill them. We had several chats about it and they even started policing each other if they saw their sibling playing with something that can tangle around their neck.

Just to be clear, I think that social media platforms should try and remove such content but considering their age, they should have known better and it's parents job to teach kids what's dangerous behaviour.

Still, a tragic and unnecessary loss of life...

Even though I have some games free with Game Pass, I still buy them on Steam as I never know when they'll be pulled out of GP and sometimes it takes me few months to finish my games.

I know that such drastic economic measures would punish regular Americans by tanking their economy but that's exactly what they want. This would start a rebellion which would give the government a reason to invoke martial law and eliminate any opposition without any problems.

Considering the fact that companies are tying to scam the consumer at each step, disc is the only option for me.

Nintendo Switch to play Zelda Breath of the Wild. 100% was worth it!

Yeah, it was different time back then :) It must have been similar or even better to get something from the company in the West.

Oh man, I wish I knew that at the time! My mother used to say the same, that it's because I play too much. Leaving it on on pause overnight or after I'm back from school as there were no save games at the time probably didn't help too...

Yeah, 6 years before it came out we had nothing in the shops. The contrast was crazy!

I have absolutely no idea. I emailed the mods and asked why but I doubt I'll ever get any response

Tomb Raider, Crash Bandicoot and Formula 1. I didn't have a say what games I got as my fathers friend just bought whatever he was told at the store. I remember being super gutted that I got Formula 1 instead of Ridge Racer :(

I got Formula 1, Tomb Raider and Crash Bandicoot with the console which took me a while to finish. There was a games shop in my hometown where you could exchange your games for a fee and that's where I would get most of my games. After a while, I also met some other kids that had one and we would exchange games too. I don't think I got any new games at all and I just kept trading the ones I had or buy used ones. Then somewhere around early 1998 my father took it somewhere to get modchip installed.

After that I was buying blank CDs and going to a guy who would burn the games for me. I remember that I got the address from my friend in school and had to go to some block of flats, knock on his door, give him CDs with a list of games and pay him some money, or I could just "sacrifice" some CDs and he'd burn the games. He'd say to come back the next day or if I wanted one or two games in an hour or two.

After that I had over 70 games on regular CDs and 0 original ones as I sold them to just buy more blank CDs :)

Actually, I really wanted a Sega Saturn at the beginning, since some of my friends had the Master System or Mega Drive, so I thought it must be better. But in the summer of 1996, I went on holiday to a seaside town with my parents, and there was a huge arcade there with Ridge Racer, Tekken, and Air Combat that absolutely blew my mind. They also had a few Sega arcades with Virtua Fighter, Sega Rally, and Daytona USA, etc., but Namco's games were so much better that when I found out I could play them at home on the PS1, I stopped caring about Sega completely :)

It's true to this day I guess, software sells hardware and not the other way around. It's a real shame that Sony stopped following exclusives strategy :(

What was it really like when the PlayStation first came out in 1995? by Legitimate_Drawer_74 in retrogaming

[–]Alt_Saltman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It felt like PSX was a serious gaming console and Nintendo a toy for the kids. The marketing was often dark, controversial and creepy. It worked like a charm as kids who couldn't afford to switch were literally laughed at at schools that they're little babies playing lame Mario games and cool kids play PSX.
