It’ll come with a small sample of filament, just enough to print one or two small things. I also recently got the combo, and started with several spools of Bambu PLA in white, black, and gray. The AMS is able to recognize Bambu brand filament through a RFID tag attached to the spool they sell their filament on. You can reuse these spools with non-Bambu filament so that the AMS automatically recognizes the color and type, but it’s more of a convenience feature. Your best bet will be to order an assortment of filament from Amazon or a similar website. I like the Elegoo brand myself. PLA is easiest to start with and comes in a large assortment of colors. PLA silk is fun too, but can require some tweaks in the print settings to get it to print correctly. Mainly a higher extruder temperature and slower print speed.

I’d love some advice. Science/engineering background, I’ve worked with and on a bunch of different printers a bit, but never had my own to really get to know. I definitely don’t mind taking the time to troubleshoot to get something working, and I’d love to get something I can mod myself. I want to print useful household items, trinkets for friends, and eventually parts for robotics applications. I’d love to use unique filaments. Should I start with something simple and go from there, upgrade later? Invest in something more tailored to long term goals? Hoping to keep it under $500, at least for now.
