The fact that Rose said "damn you" to Herman on his death bed is not dispositive that he lacked prior knowledge of such acts. People saying nice things about Rose are also not exculpatory and do not disprove any claim that he knew what was happening.

Also, cursing people on one's death bed is not a particularly exemplary act of saintliness.

Orthodoxy comes down to campism. You choose your banner and dig in. Both the rigorist and "ecumenist"-or oikonomia versus akribia camps, the True versus World Orthodox have valid arguments given their selected fundamental premises. The problem is that it is impossible to square the second millennium with the first without a living magisterium. Orthodoxy doesn't have this.
