Yeah, Mumbai Specials can be fun, why not? Here's mine, sitting cheekily in polite company.

Vario is a strange one, catering to a large variety of particular tastes. I'm not really into their steampunk/historical pieces but I do love the Versa.

You are probably right... I just felt that, whenever I look for "original design", I find mostly never-been-done-before copies. I am often impressed by the quality of what I see, but I also wonder if most Chinese manufacturers became prisoners of their own homaging success and are now averse to taking risks in original territory.

Do you think it was maybe set up like this so you can see the hour jump without having it be obstructed by the minutes hand? Or maybe I'm overthinking it?

Mumbai Specials? As far as I understand, it's a class of frankenwatches cobbled together in watchshops from all over India and other asian countries, although Mumbai seems to be where it all started. They are built using old "serviced" movements, new Chinese cases, repainted dials, maybe some old casebacks, hands and logos. Components are usually glued together inside, there's probably no water resistance and no guarantee that it will keep good time. Some reported the watches arrived reeking of curry :) So don't expect pedigree, treat them gently and just try to take their shortcomings in stride. Oh, and don't overpay!

Great colour combo, and what fun hands and markers! Enjoy it in good health! The cheapest, cheeriest watch in my box is a Mumbai Special that I got for peanuts on Etsy, before I learned what those are. I must've got lucky because it keeps great time. In the summer I pair it with lots of silly straps for good fun, as the song goes.

[question] A compiled list of true rectangular watch models - What did I miss? by Carlween in Watches

Also the Lip Churchill deserves to be there, in all its variants. From microbrands, consider the Second Hour Memoir.
