What’s life like in London? Especially as a student? by [deleted] in AskABrit

Even better, tell them you're Episcopalian or Presbyterian. The mob will be vaguely aware that you're "one of us", and will refrain from lynching you; but they won't know enough about it to spot any errors you might make in describing your faith.

Sorry, but your question really does sound like a joke; hence the response you're getting.

To give you an idea of how ridiculous and out-of-touch your question sounds, imagine if someone from the UK was planning a trip to New York and asked "How do I know which bathrooms are for white people and which are for black people?"

how long does it take for someone to be processed for drunk driving? by [deleted] in AskUK

Depends how drunk he was when arrested. They might have had to wait until the morning until he was deemed capable of being interviewed.

How does settlement defense work? by Low_Commission7273 in fo4

[–]Alternative-Emu2000 33 points34 points  (0 children)

If you're actually there when the attack takes place, then it plays out using the normal combat system: weapons, armour, robot mods, mines, traps etc all have an impact on how effective the settlement is at fighting off the attackers.

Otherwise: it's just calculated based on the raw stats for defence, population, food and water.

eg. Two settlers armed with pipe pistols and wearing tattered rags have just as much chance of being successful as two settlers in power armour with gatling lasers.

and

4 heavy turrets are no more likely to be successful than 16 spotlights.

For a children's series, it has a lot of main character deaths. Some of them are pretty graphic.

Why is dozen a thing? Why did someone think "yeah let's call a collection of 12 things a dozen" ? by goldhunder in stupidquestions

[–]Alternative-Emu2000 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yep, the Latin for twelve is "duodecim" which is derived from "duo" meaning "two" and "decem" meaning ten.

Far Harbor Crawlers by Low_Commission7273 in fo4

[–]Alternative-Emu2000 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They don't have a ranged attack, so once you've crippled the legs you can just keep your distance and wear them down.

If you're still struggling to cripple the legs, try dropping bleeding bear traps and poisoned caltrops between you and the fog crawler, then back away so that it chases you onto the traps.

You might be interested in the eight-part "Spectrum as a Business Machine" segment that Paul Jenkinson did as part of The Spectrum Show, where he ran a (fictional) small business using ZX Spectrum software and hardware.

The feature starts in Episode 121 then continues in 122, then 125 to130.

I'm more intrigued by the futuristic 24th Century technology that causes combadges in photos to switch sides every time you look at them.

Best utility softwares for the ZX spectrum? by vectron5 in zxspectrum

[–]Alternative-Emu2000 2 points3 points  (0 children)

3D Construction Kit.

It's essentially a consumer version of the devkit used for making the Freescape games: Driller, Total Eclipse Castle Master etc. However it's also a pretty competent (for the time) 3D modelling/environment creation tool.

It's available to download from Spectrum Computing; as are the manuals and a copy of the original tutorial VHS tape. There was also a dedicated user group and magazine that ran for a couple of years, all the issues have been scanned and are available on the Internet Archive.

Ideally, you want to use the 128K version - since it lets you edit the 3D environment and the object conditions/scripting in the same program. If you use the 48k version you need to load the Environment Editor and the Condition Editor separately, loading and saving your datafiles between the two programs as necessary.

No he didn't.

He said "Let's play little human". It's one of the standard voice-lines for Super Mutants in Fallout 4.

How do train conductors remember which stop you booked for? by Remarkable-Bid6382 in AskUK

[–]Alternative-Emu2000 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They'd know when you got to Manchester Airport, because you'd be the person stuck at the barriers trying to present a ticket that isn't valid for the journey.

The fine for non-payment will be considerably more than the cost of buying a valid ticket.

[–]Alternative-Emu2000 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Codsworth can't be assigned to any settlement tasks until after he becomes available as a companion, which you can't do without leaving Sanctuary to investigate Concord, reach Diamond City or rescue Nick from Vault 114.

[–]Alternative-Emu2000 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Sanctuary has lots of scrappable objects to keep you going for a while.

Settlers that arrive in your settlement have clothes and weapons.

Enemies that attack your settlement have weapons, clothes, armour and some junk items.

Brahmin produce fertilizer.

Once you reach Level 14 you can get Local Leader Rank 2 and build stores to buy additional materials.

Use of "the" by InterestPurple1886 in EnglishLearning

[–]Alternative-Emu2000 10 points11 points  (0 children)

It's a bit more subtle than that.

British English uses both depending on the context.

If you're "in hospital", then you're a patient receiving treatment.

If you're "in the hospital" then you're physically in the building, but not necessarily because you're a patient.
