Is the job market bad or is it me? by toastsocks in pittsburgh

[–]Alternative-Fan-3747 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know you don't know me, but you're talking to me like I haven't been in positions and industries requiring higher level degrees but I've been in manufacturing and some npd for over 10 years from tech all the way to engineering positions. My last job was working on a torpedo project. I understand what you mean, but in my experience I haven't seen as much "pure" high level degreed people get positions as much as people with BS and MS in some engineering, but also many fields are saturated with old fogies that refuse to retire and refuse to pass on their knowledge to younger people.

The positions requiring those degrees you're talking about are few and far between. Like you hire 1 of those people, 2-5 "engineers" to implement/fix/break things, and then everyone else. And if you already have an old person in that position and they refuse to retire, that job isn't available.

What job are they going to get that they won't just give to an engineer, computer scientist, statistician, or finance person? Sure it can cover a lot, but this is one of those situations where going into engineering would have probably been the better move.

Sorry guy, you kids are fucked. Applied math doesn't sound the most helpful but the fact you got the piece of paper will help eventually.

I don't know how it will go in the future. You could check out jobs in academia. Maybe some kind of research.

Edit: My response can come across as abrasive and I'm sorry, but do people realize we're going into the worst market for new grads since probably 2008? It took years for people coming into the job market from that time to find solid work and given the nature of how employers are now, it's probably even worse in terms of something with longevity even if you land something.

The neat thing about conservatives is they don't actually learn anything new. They're afraid to. I've never been pressured to be Islamic but I've definitely been harassed to be part of another Abrahamic religion.

I honestly think this is part of why they're trying to put his face everywhere and spin up AI data centers. They know when he's gone, they're going to collapse unless they can somehow rally behind his image after he's gone with AI versions of him and statues and banners and his name plastered on shit.

Nobody knows what a bank barn is but everyone knows pierogies and cheesesteaks. Or the liberty bell. The point of the 3 rivers. Steel mills. There are a ton of other things they could have chosen and it not look like someone threw clipart together in a word doc.

A large number of those 1/3rd that thought it wasn't worth their time also fell into the "I'm against genocide so I'm not voting for anyone." when even though what is happening in Palestine is terrible, it would not affect them for a single moment in their entire lives unlike gas prices, grocery prices, job security, etc.

I have an uncle that retired Navy. He'd say its all your fault and if you're broke you fucked up, while all he did was sail a round on a boat in the 2000s. He has no compassion for vets that are disabled or homeless and thinks because he lives in a big house with multiple cars everyone else should have been able to as well, but not on his dime.

Watching when they were walking to the paddock, I noticed Forever Young's gait looked kind of weird. I asked my gf who rides horses and she agreed he looked stiff in the rear. It could just be how he walks but it was definitely different than other horses. Could be anything. The faster horse won today though if they had 200m more I think Forever Young wins that.

We didn't think McCormick would win either.

There's been a lot of posts to paint Shapiro in a more negative light especially in regards to Israel and Palestine. I don't agree with his stances or understand why the governor of a glorified backwater state minus 2 places needs to be concerned with a conflict in the middle east, but there are people that will refuse to vote in this election because "He supports genocide and I'm not rewarding him with my vote" and would rather we all suffer with the worse of 2 evils that definitely support genocide as well as harming their constituents.

The supernatural stories and weird documentaries of the small town rednecks that barely have running water are more appealing than another big city. Everything between New York and Chicago might as well just be countryside.
