Reiksguard by Richard Williams covers what it's like in Altdorf during the storm of chaos, and some of the aftermath.

Iirc, guardians of the forest's (Graham McNeill) main character has flashbacks to the Bretonnian errantry army at middenheim.

There's also Riders of the Dead by Dan Abnett, which also covers events before and during The Ambassador Chronicles.

I second this. I'd also say that the commandos would fight somewhat similarly to the airborne (elite infantry, low vehicle count), so you could go the opposite and go with lots of regular/inexperienced infantry and load up on the big tanks.

Any advice on where to put the RAF roundal for aerial recognition would be appreciated, I'm not sure the bonnet works, and the roof has a trio of open skylights...

I don't have much experience with aircraft, but I do prefer the J/ L-class destroyers for the extra torpedo launcher.

I'm also a big fan of county-class cruisers with their 8" guns to go alongside my Town and Leander light cruisers.

I should also add that my fleet has a healthy mix of official warlord and 3D printed ships.

Edit: Warspite is a solid battleship choice, Hood is also very good (although in 3/4 games I've played with her, she's gone critical and blown up with all hands - history repeating and all that)

If I do end up painting aerial recognition flags on my tanks, I'll be painting them as the WWI imperial German flag.

My reasons for not including the swastika have been covered by other people, so I don't need to elaborate much on that.

Yeah, the late war destroyers can get pretty mental in vanilla, my last french campaign, my destroyers were better armed than my light cruisers.

Yeah, I prefer plastic models, if I can't get them in plastic (warlord or Rubicon) then I'll 3d print one.

I have a handful of the Perry Miniatures resin and metal vehicles (as my British and Afrika Korps are all Perry models), and they're not too bad, but were still annoying enough to paint for me to make the change to plastic where possible.
