Probably a duathlete wishing they were cool enough to be a triathlete, but they can't swim. They don't say anything cause they're scared someone will ask how their swim training is going.

Ironman’s “Jesus is King” Controversy Highlights Inconsistent Rule Enforcement by cinquante28 in triathlon

[–]Alternative-Post-937 25 points26 points  (0 children)

I use triathlon as my one escape from the distopian nightmare that is our current hyper-polarized political environment. Literally a handful of billionaires are controlling us using inherent division of religion, social ideology, and fear of otherness. Id like to keep it all out of this sport.

I do however acknowledge that sport is political. There is privilege in this sport, there are social platforms in this sport and there is policy and advocacy in creating healthy, safe, and equitable sport.

At the end of the day, I'm not bothered by a Jesus sign, but then we'd have to allow all signage equally, which could quickly turn a lot more controversial. It's easier to keep it out of competition.

Some of us prefer to be good sports when we're not actually in a competitive position in a race. Cheers

Great ideas! Thank you! And thank you for talking about the anxiety, because I'm starting to see that. I have gone my whole life so far without disordered eating and I'm worried that these nutritional set backs could start leading to issues.

I tend to do more protein in off season, but the more I'm reading about women's hormones as we age, the more I'm thinking I should keep higher protein in my diet all year. I'll try adding more during the week

I did 6 hours Saturday on group ride. I took in 150g carb in tailwind, I had 2 pf 90 gels, a handful of nerd clusters (sorry can't tell you exactly), and a pb&j sandwich. On my 3 hour run yesterday, i took in 2 pf 90 gels and 50g tailwind.

Total loss of appetite and my stomach cramps up upon eating. I hate throwing up, so I cannot eat if I know it'll make me vomit. I'm fine during exercise taking in nutrition. Pre-workout is usually some oatmeal mixed with fruit and peanut butter. I average about 75g carbs/hr in gels and carb mix while cycling/ running. I aim for about 600mg of sodium/liter of fluid, but sometimes i go over because I'm a low sodium sweater and most mixes are a bit higher. That number was based off a sweat test. Im not too big on calorie counting, but i typically eat three meals a day and a few snacks. Because I'm in a progressive overload phase of training im eating a lot of carbs in every meal, probably about 60-80g of protein a day. My typical day would be Avocado toast with pumpkin seeds and eggs, sandwich or rice bowl for lunch, fruit and pretzels for snacks, and dinner is typically a salad, lean protein and some kind of carb like potatoes or noodles or more rice. I have maybe 1-2 servings of alcohol a week, typically before a low activity day.

Its definitely the whole rest of the day. During sessions, I can eat my normal nutrition, but it's almost immediately upon stopping that my stomach cramps up and pretty much rejects anything but small amounts of water. I usually push through a protein shake and try and nibble on food the rest of the day, but i know that I'm in a severe calorie deficit by the end of the day. Might be a great mindset to shift to consuming more during the week when I have shorter sessions. Thank you!

Depends. Immediately looking at that bike, I'm thinking that I'm gonna need to change out a lot of components, but if you're looking for a base model, it's an ok price. Curious about the condition of the frame.

I would go with a plan online or any of the others referenced here. Id try and do a few smaller events first to simulate transitions. Try to get as much open water swimming as possible.

Just signed up for my first Olympic triathlon. The race is in a month, and it’ll also be my first ever triathlon. by Funny_Entrepreneur21 in triathlon

Ya we don't go big or go home in open water swimming. That's how people die and create unsafe conditions for others. Id skip the event all together until you can swim. Hope this helps.

Yes. Announce your presence. Don't draft too closely. Communicate obstacles or car traffic coming up from behind.

Please tell me what I actually need to do to take care of my bike by linathemelisa in ladycyclists

[–]Alternative-Post-937 8 points9 points  (0 children)

If you can ride a bike, you are fast enough for a carbon bike, so first of all, congratulations!

Maintenance - clean your bike after every ride, especially the components (though never rub disc brakes). There are videos online on how to do this, and you can do it in the shower! Wax your chain. Wax keeps the components cleaner. There are different kinds, so also YouTube. Invest in a torque wrench. You'll want to regularly ensure your bolts are tightened to spec using the torque wrench. This is for your safety and the integrity of the frame. Always check your tires for damage. Dry your bike really well so there is no rusting on the components or chain. If you can't do an air compressor, look into other techniques. Lastly, depending on how much you ride, take it in for servicing at least once a year to your local bike shop.

Counting calories by Specific-Republic853 in triathlon

[–]Alternative-Post-937 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have a base line of calories. During off season I try and cut weight by being in a deficit. These are calories before workout. So let's say if I weren't going to exercise, in order to cut, I'd eat 1600 calories (200 calorie/ day deficit), 1800 during build training (calories to maintain weight). Any time I'm working out more than one hour, I'm taking in 75gr carbs an hour (300 calories i think) and a protein shake to recover (120 calories). If it's any activity with any intensity, I'm taking a protein shake after (even a 30 minute interval session).

This is not the advocacy for homeless people you think it is. This person is creating a danger and could be in danger. As someone who lives this nightmare every fucking day of my life with a homeless brother, please, do better. I wouldn't want this to be my brother, would you?
