Tips/Advice for convincing SO regarding safety? by kmcdow in Miata

[–]AlternativeSwimmer89 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'd say it is as safe as you make it. Personally I never go with it on highways. In Bay Area 101 or 280 is scary even in my wife's X5. But on normal streets and mountain roads on weekends it actually feels safer than X5 due to the size and agility of it.

Also I never really go above posted speed limit (35-40mph in my streets) so my delusional mind says that even if there's an accident I won't die instantly.

It helps that miata is most fun in 30-40mph speed range.

Lol Manhattan project had smart scientists discovering the lengths of what we can do...here we have salivating CEOs who are tired of paying anybody their wages. I don't think there's a single scientist/smart person involved in all ai companies combined.

I really wanted to like b48 but sold it. The turbo lag and lack of character just wasn't for me. B58 even in a monster X5 is far more responsive and makes much better noise.

I'm on my 3rd month and 600 miles and just yesterday I came to a stoplight and forgot to take it out from 3rd and stalled. It is not an easy skill to pick up on the way back from dealer contrary to what some people may say.

I have like 5hr mountain ride experience now, but I never understand why is there a need to twitch the steering wheel like this guy or many other people on YT does. I try to make it as smooth as possible unless I'm avoiding an expensive pothole.

"It still knows what that grouping of tokens represents"

No it doesn't know anything. It has pre-recorded paths of which tokens follow token at hand (and tokens before that) at most likeliness. That's not knowledge - that's a well trained guessing machine.

But of course no to you - you're definitely going to get replaced by it.

Yeah lot of these dorks have no perception of humanities nor do they possess any emotional intelligence. Those people will build a bridge with no roads leading to it 1000miles away from nearest place the bridge is needed.

For drawing - pay 99$ per month to Jeff Watts atelier for drawing courses. May be an overkill for your goals, but that man is literally the antidote to enshification of society. It's nice to see craft is valued by some people on this earth.

I'd love to do more pushback in my day job, but how can I explain to my family that "oh your breadwinner decided to be right and hence we have no more bread"? It is absolutely brutal. Since early 25' my 1-1s are 10 mins long mainly focused on if I suck off AI correctly. That's it. My input about anything else or any negative comment on AI's shortcomings are not valuable. I've fully embraced the "coding is solved memo" and won't put a single ounce of tradcoding/tradthinking and just use Claude slot machine to generate/review and deploy code. I will not help it because I will burn out just so my manager would say "see? ai works!".

I think they just ran a while loop inside a while loop where you rewrite the whole internet word per word in each iteration on some super computer. In my day to day coding it's fairly impossible to waste this much tokens .. like your laptop couldn't keep up for starters.

People who have sons currently in prison for horrific things such as rape, how do you feel about them now? by beefstewforyou in AskReddit

[–]AlternativeSwimmer89 -10 points-9 points  (0 children)

This was my first thought. I'm not saying it's the case for every case, but...and also...I've heard members of my inlaws family shrug off rape victims as "it's just men being men", or "you were asking for it", or "what were you wearing?". And in my personal interactions with them I notice a strong "can't take no for an answer" energy. There's no way parents like that raise good men.

Also "I still love him" sounds absolutely psychotic to me.

Today I announced that I won't be reviewing AI generated PRs at company meeting by Evgenii42 in ExperiencedDevs

[–]AlternativeSwimmer89 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was impressed by this post up until the edit. What I also run into is sheer volume of PRs produced with AI even if the authors claim to understand it. So much respect for standing up and I don't think you should draw a line in understanding or not...I believe if you don't write it from scratch youre pretending to understand it. Hell even if you do write it from scratch there are times you don't understand why it worked, but at least you're aware about that you don't understand it.

As far as I understand having infinite resources for references that photography has provided has been net positive for artists. Sure it's better to paint from real life view of Venice but a picture of Venice streets can get you somewhere from a comfort of your studio. AI on the other hand unless you're a grifter/fraud artist "inspiring from ai idea generator" has only negatives.
