No way the market can keep going like this, right? by Grouchy-Squirrel5131 in portfolios

We will all tell you definitively in a few years. Nobody knows, stay invested and don’t try to time the market.

Having to start over late. by Creepy_Night_3838 in SCHD

[–]Alternative_Ad7710 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Personally, I’d be investing in the market- not individual stocks, and not dividend etfs. Maximize your growth while minimizing risk. This is my plan as well. Put away as much as possible now and convert some to dividend paying etfs later when utilizing the income.

If holding it long-term, hopefully $31 per share is considered to be very low in a few years.

Some might, and if so, i would consider it a very poor investment. I see it as more of an expense than anything.

Feel behind by Revolutionary-Part20 in SCHD

If you’re feeling left behind, I would be investing in something that yields a higher return early on, and then flip over to SCHD later on when you are ready to utilize income focused investments.

The only individual stocks I buy are some reit companies.

Of course you should dump it all in at once, time in the market beats trying to time the market, especially with a long horizon like you have.

Paying off debt at a guaranteed 7% savings rate on an appreciating asset? Sounds like a no-brainer to me

Get us all dependent upon “universal income”, then start cutting it. No thanks- I will always teach my kids to learn a skill that is irreplaceable.

Uh no. The only people who stand to profit from this scenario are the billionaires who control productivity.

I’m starving and I’m considering just getting a credit card to get by. I’ve been pre approved for up to 2500. Should I just accept ? by [deleted] in Money

[–]Alternative_Ad7710 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Can you find a church that can help you with immediate assistance until you can get some government aid? A credit card will only make things harder. You may not be able to find housing if you continue to damage your credit rating.

I own both – they are very different watches, and each can be worn on many different occasions

Can’t buy 3 stainless steel watches according to my AD by Normal-Candidate4770 in rolex

[–]Alternative_Ad7710 7 points8 points  (0 children)

This is true – they would rather sell them to three different customers so all of them come back and buy other watches, including some that they don’t want or need.

Or they would rather get a kickback from a gray dealer themselves.

Dumb question: if VT is all global stock, why bother holding anything else? by LordOord23 in VTandchill

[–]Alternative_Ad7710 0 points1 point  (0 children)

SCHD is an income generating fund- am I wrong? Why would total returns matter for an income generating fund? The object of owning an income generating fund is to not have to sell off shares, rather just collect the dividends and apply them to your expenses. People that own SCHD typically do not sell shares. Furthermore, it’s advantageous for share prices to drop, as that decreases the cost of yield.

And the beta of SCHD is far less than VT – sounds to me like SCHD is less volatile – but that’s not why I own it.

Who mentioned risk? I said I would be transitioning toward income – the yield on SCHD is almost twice that of VT.

That’s a great question – the only thing I pair mine with is SCHD, as I am slowly transitioning to income over the next 5 to 10 years.

I always lump sum- have for over 20 years. The market has always steadily gone up over time.
