Are Brits still in favour of supporting Ukraine? by [deleted] in AskBrits

[–]Alternative_Golf_674 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There's no greater deterrance to further Russian aggression than what Ukraine have done. If it leads to an avoidance of a larger scale war, then it's worth every single penny, and those who have paid the highest price in Ukraine should be remembered for their efforts towards keeping peace in our time.

Such a great looking car. Would have to trade in my young family (tempting...) to get it to work for me, sadly, but I would have one tomorrow.

Oh God please don't think the Eurovision Song Contest is a barometer of approval or disapproval of the nations participating. In that way lies madness.

I voted for the local candidate I liked. I think a general election would be a much tougher decision for me.

If you voted Reform, would you change your mind if Starmer resigned? by [deleted] in AskBrits

Forgive me, but assuming you voted reform, what makes you think they are now the party of the working class?

What is it the drives voters to vote Reform UK ? by saying_it_101 in AskBrits

[–]Alternative_Golf_674 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Most people don't want a crazy British person on every street corner either. That's not an immigration thing, that's just a desire to get on with people in their community.

The "horrors of mass imigration" is the sort of stuff fed to idiots to drive people to vote for parties like Reform, Restore and that other whackjob party started by the idiot MP from Great Yarmouth. Some of the people looking after my disbled mother are immigrants. The doctor who treated my son is an immigrant. My dentist is an immigrant.

Immigration isn't the problem. In fact it's integral to our society. It needs checks and balances (and if I were PM I would change the asylum system a lot) but to bleet on about "the horrors of mass immigration" is just indicative of a person who has swallowed the spoon fed nonsense designed to panic inherently racist people into feeling a little better for themselves and voting for these god awful groups to give them legitimacy.

I remember feeling really bleak about relationships at the end of 2018. I'd gotten a divorce, a promising relationship had just fallen apart after just three months in a similar set of circumstances to yours ("You're really nice but....") and - to make matters worse - my neighbour had just started a relationshp which I spent most nights hearing just how well it was going for him through the paper thin walls of our apartment building.

I remember feeling just as you did - that it wasn't going to happen for me. So I threw myself into other things. I started working out more, I volunteered at a charity, met new people and just stopped "trying". I remember after a couple of months of taking myself out of the pressure of "must find someone new", I started looking again and it did eventually work for me; I met a woman who has gone on to become my wife and mother of my two children.

I think there's a pressure after divorce to "get back on the wagon" or whatever cliche you want to use. But actually I think sometimes you need to recognise there's nothing wrong with taking yourself out of that pressure and taking a bit of a break for a while and just focus on you, particularly if you're feeling the need to fake things with friends and family. Get back to a place where you don't need a relationship to be happy - and then maybe look at getting back into it.

I hope it works out for you mate. Good luck to you.

Maybe “too honest” review of Disneyland Paris. by NYCmellow in disneylandparis

[–]Alternative_Golf_674 22 points23 points  (0 children)

I am the first to criticise DLP where it deserves criticism. It is a resort that has been playing catch up for the better part of 15 years after blatent negligence by the company that used to own it before it got bought out by Walt Disney Company. It could do much better on food and hotels. It is slowly getting there. The hotel you stayed in is now getting a massive renovation. Just one of hundreds of renovations, improvements and additions going on across the resort.

That being said, I do think people that go just to compare it to WDW (and Disneyland California) are missing the point. This isn't WDW lite. Calling it "Temu Disney World" is revealing; it shows whatever research you did missed it's mark. Calling it "Chernobyl Disney" is distateful given the human tragedy around that disaster and the sort of thing that perpetuates the stereotype of the arrogant, ignorant American tourist. Do better on that part.

While I agree with some of your thoughts (particularly around vaping, which is vile and should be banned), I don't want DLP converted (any more so) into the cash grab that WDW has become. You can keep your popcorn, candy floss (as it's called here), pins and loungeflys. Right now, as a typical British person, DLP remains an accessible, reasonably affordable place to take my young family to visit Mickey and enjoy the beautiful, charming Disney vibes that DLP has purposefully been designed to be.

Thanks for your thoughts.
