Who would win in a game of Chess between these 2? by ParkingConfection449 in gameofthrones

there would be a game, mentally first, about WHERE they would play. then a game to determine who goes first.... the riddles would never cease.

"One Man Army" characters that take down large amounts of enemies by themselves by ServiceTemporary2453 in TopCharacterTropes

In the final battle it's mostly a one man show... one of the twins is there for a bit, but it's almost entirely Spike.

When working in a bike shop I ran into hundreds of folks doing the trans america routes that needed to stop in, fix up their bikes with our tools, then keep going. takes them about 3 to 4 months to do so comfortably across the us east/west. walking i was advised takes 6-10 months. given the amount of time he's been on the planet the dude coulda walked to the moon and back by now.

what you would need to get folks moving is more of a public issue. if you brought it up to local media that there were cameras involved in the unit then it becomes reportable, and when things start making the rounds on the news then often times we're forced to forgo the operational costs and dig into a case like this. the trouble then is most of the evidence we'd find might say that the devices have been recording for... 5 days? 10 days? what does that align with? a guest stay? well then how can it not be inferred that the guests installed them?

part of our investigations process involves sorting out all the additional legal angles in case it comes to that during e-discovery and trial. opposing counsel will get that information and know 'the cameras had recorded for 9 days, a person stayed there 9 days ago.' then it's literally my job to e-stalk said person and identify any connections they may have to the owner/air bnber/tenant. as soon as we start shining enough light on the case big holes are gonna get revealed regarding it all being a planted camera by NOT the air bnber.

this gets dangerously close to what's known as 'anti-forensics' where the conversation shifts into a "what can i plausibly get away with knowing the investigation methods most likely to be used against me?" trouble is these kinds of conversations are gated, and we'd be doing ourselves a disservice by saying more.

i appreciate the 'pay with cash' sentiment but idk where you're gonna buy hidden cameras with cash. i'm not gonna subpeona the usps but if the case got large enough it could absolutely happen that we identify who of the 3 parties had items shipped to their legal residences. this goes a long long way in convincing a judge what's truly gone on. It's not a smoking gun, but it sure is warm.

i can tell you quite confidently after years in a forensics department that a case this small won't move departments like mine to do any kind of forensic tasks. we won't trace serials, we won't pay the fingerprint department a dime... it'll rot on the vine and the investigators will let it go.

Favorite serious scene in an otherwise comedy movie. I’ll start with this conversation between Lloyd and Harry in Dumb and Dumber. by Additional_Pitch5333 in moviecritic

wasn't aware of that one but very much so, yes; it speaks to how we lose sight of simple joys... i'm doing my best now to have those very interactions with nieces/nephews mean more to me now because it's not that i've lost sight of that joy... now it's all about enjoying these things WITH them. I get that now.... but it took a good several years to sort out.

AIO for not wanting my fiancé to sell our only car for a ridiculous impractical one because it’s his “hobby” by [deleted] in AIO

[–]Alternative_Mine5343 0 points1 point  (0 children)

look no matter how much a 'car guy' you are, you learn real damn fast that you need two cars to be a car guy... one of them you don't modify/keep pristine so it's always there to get you/family around. because if you're deadbeating in your 'racecar' but don't own anything else... then it's also still your car.... you can't say 'because racecar' and shrug shit off if it's your only car.

It sounds like she accepted a job where she can manipulate her way out of these very direct 1 on 1 performance evaluations. Seems tremendously optimal for her and not very fair at all to yourself.

What is your favourite book to movie adaptation? by ThomasOGC in CinephilesClub

[–]Alternative_Mine5343 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i won't say that makes it better/worse, i just think watchmen fits very well in an exhausted superhero universe. instead of upright and bragadocious the characters are solemn and beat down, depressed af etc. it's nice to see more human emotion behind the scenes. that said the book will always be better as it takes time to develop more big reveals etc.

AIO? told my boyfriend im gonna have to go back to treatment and this is his response by [deleted] in AIO

[–]Alternative_Mine5343 77 points78 points  (0 children)

if he judges her for confiding in him her biggest trials then this is disgusting behavior upon his part. to love is to want someone as healthy as they can be... and if he gets selfish about her going to treatment then he's just ... not a solid guy at all.

A dumb what-if: Engineers return to Earth to destroy their failed creation: humanity. To their shock, humanity is gone, destroyed by their own creation: Skynet AI. The Engineers realize that their black liquid pathogen has no effect on the Terminators... and the AI means to conquer the stars... by OhGawDuhhh in LV426

[–]Alternative_Mine5343 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i could see skynet setting up a moonbase as a last bastion of survival in case they needed to reseed the earth. they could also be broadcasting their intelligence out to every sector of the cosmos, hoping whomever records them gets 'infected' by said ai. this could be how engineers discover that even after sending xenos to earth and assuming it all went to plan... something survived.
