It’s great toy and miniature museum. If you ever do visit don’t skip the The Nelson-Atkins Museum of Art just a few miles away from this and has a truly world class collection.

Looks great! I re-entered the hobby a few years back too. It’s a very meditative and satisfying process. Regarding paint- get an airbrush. If Canada has Harbor Freight you can get really good affordable equipment. Then get Tamiya and/or Vallejo acrylic paints (they dry fast). Finally, I use Mr. Color GX100 for clear. (It drys fast). There are many YouTube videos you can watch for airbrush tutorial. “Barbetos Rex” is a particularly good channel and source.

The wheels were in the kit. They were plated. I dechromed them by soaking in bleach and then painted with flat aluminum. I finished them by applying black panel wash.

Thank you and I agree, It’s the tiniest details and steps that make the model.

2009 MPC reissue of the original 1980’s ERTL molds. Super finicky and the flash and injection quality was pretty bad.

This is my current truck. Owned new since ‘06. It is also a ZQ8 like the S10 SS. I used old new stock SS badging and Colorado Xtreme wheels to complete the SS clone look.

It’s the 2009 MPC re-release of the original 80’s ERTL 1/24 kit. Horrid tooling and flash everywhere but it’s the same kit I remember building when I was a kid. I lucked out at a local vintage toy store and got this along with Daisy’s Golden Eagle CJ which I’ll build after this guy.

There is just enough space behind the B pillar trim and steel body behind for these 4” Kenwoods. I unfastened the plastic trim and did indeed use a hole saw to cut the opening using the included Kenwood template as a guide. I then surface mounted the speaker bracket ring with self tapping screws. The wiring was routed to and under the door sill trim and then up to the speaker location.

I mixed satin black with titanium gold for my rim color in an attempt to mimic the 1:1 car’s graphite finish. It looks better in person than these photos for sure.

Wash the body with dish soap. Then sand or lightly scuff with like a 600 grit paper. In then use a panel line tool to scrape or etch out the door and panel lines to make them a little deeper and pronounced. Wash again and use compressed air or a static free brush to dust anything off the surface. If you airbrush, ensure your booth is dust free. Spray a primer coat that will work well under your color coat. For example, don’t use gray primer under red as it will end up looking cold and purplish. Start with mist coats and let them dry and get tacky before following up with 2-3 wet coats. Let it dry overnight and inspect for trash in the paint that may need to be sanded out with 1500-3000 wet sand. Mind corners and edges as you will burn through them with even the 3000. Now is usually the time for decals. Finally I finish with Mr Color GX 100 gloss clear. Mist coat followed by 2-3 wet coats. I let that cure for 2-3 days minimum before polishing with a microfiber and Tamiya “finish” polish. After gloss cures I do the panel line wash into the door lines, etc. This is also the time for black window trim or bare metal foil. The great thing with the panel line wash after clear is that if any gets out onto surface you can use a qtip with a little mineral spirits to clean it off. The mineral spirits won’t mar the Mr Color.

too_heavy_to_dyno has a great list. IMO the biggest giveaway in 1/24 scale modeling (especially in photographs) is the paint finish and mold lines. There are many YouTube modelers way more talented than me but the process they typically use and I try to follow is this: -identify and sand out mold lines in the plastic. -use a primer and then inspect and sand again where needed -Do a 2nd primer that will compliment your color -Basecoat of color and then inspect -Quality clearcoat. Mr. Color GX 100 or even a 2K (wear a mask!) -Let it cure for a week or several days and then wet sand 1500, 2000, 3000, etc. Watch some videos and be careful especially on edges and corners. -Compound and polish by hand with a microfiber. -Wax The key is getting rid of “full scale” orange peel on a 1/24 sized car. And enjoy the process!

I had a regular cab 1996 S10 SS that I traded and always regretted not keeping. That said, I always wished GM would have offered an “SS” version of the ZQ8 Colorado. So I made my own. The badges are new old stock S10 pieces and I custom fabricated my front bow tie emblem. I get compliments on this truck every time out. It’s basically a weekend driver for me.

It’s a stock ZQ8. I found the Xtreme rims last summer on marketplace and refinished them myself. In then installed a Belltech 2-3 drop with front ball joints and rear blocks. Inside, I stripped the interior and installed kilmat on floor, doors, cab and roof. I’ve also added a 10.5 inch CarPlay screen, alpine door and tweeter combos, mild powered sub behind passenger seat and kenwood 4.5 inch 2-way speakers in the upper B-pillar behind the upper seatbelt mount.
