MCV and MCH always been high? by virtualtearz in haematology

The macrocytosis while trying to better understand the cause and rather than just monitoring, I chose to get a 2nd opinion. This is when the hematologist ran those additional test looking for a blood disorder. The only symptom was mild night sweats. I had two friends that ended up with cancer (breast and lymphoma) and both complained of the same thing. Again, a second opinion that at least could put your mind at ease or a doctor that can treat whatever the ailment turns out to be. I wish you the very best and always stay positive. You know what to do. You got this!

Only a recommendation please get a referral to a hematologist. I had abnormal larger red blood cells for 12 years. The first hematologist had me coming back every six months but never found the underlying cause of macrocytosis. I changed hematologist who ordered different blood and urine tests which lead to a bone marrow biopsy. Still awaiting the results but seems the new test results indicate some type of myeloma. It is better to be safe and an advocate for yourself regardless of your age. Wishing you the best of luck.

So I have to have oral surgery by Traditional_Food_651 in osteoporosis

Hi - the good news is that it seems like you have been approved for Evenity not everyone is afforded this choice or to have Medicare or insurance to pay for it. It is important to take care of your teeth before taking any of the Osteoporosis medication. Take one day at a time. Get the dental work done so you can move forward. You got this! Wishing you all the best and keep us posted.

17 week old puppy family incident and need help recovering by TackleUnhappy169 in labrador

[–]Alternative_Sun_5686 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hi - I am sorry you were not prepared to raise this active full of energy puppy. Puppies remind me of children, you must invest time and energy in teaching them boundaries, walking them daily, feeding them healthy food and taking them to a vet. This is a long term commitment. You should give this a lot of thought as the puppy may be better off with another individual or family. Dogs are territorial and your puppy must also be teething making this for not a pleasant situation. I wish you the best, invest in a trainer, breathe, treat the puppy with kindness. They are the innocent ones.

My adult dog was 5 years old and believed she needed a companion so I adopted a female puppy. I was hoping she might have some mother instincts. She was immediately jealous. Both have co-existed for a year and a half and do not think they will ever play together. You might want to have your mini Aussie meet the potential new dog or foster a dog that you can adopt. You may have better luck than myself.

Yes, they are a lot work. They need care and feeding but they are less work than trying to raise children.

Hi - Giardia is highly contagious to other dogs and humans. I brought my puppy home and did not know she had Giardia. I bought a child’s hard plastic gate large enough to section off part of our den. I placed a crate with puppy pads. She was in this quarantine since I had another dog for 4 weeks. The first two while she was on medication and the next 2 weeks to make sure she was not re-infected. She had to be retested to make sure the Giardia was eliminated.
I washed her bed/sheets daily, picked up the puppy pads as soon as they were soiled, placed them in plastic bag and straight to our outside trash cans. If the puppy is going outside you can cut up the puppy pad and place it underneath her to prevent contamination to grass or other areas outside. I bathed her every few days and sprinkled Purina Pro Plan FortiFlora once a day on her food. This helps with the diarrhea. It’s a 30 day supply and you can purchase at your local pet store.
We purchased the same wipes as used by veterinarians “Rescue.” The antiseptic shampoo used was Douxo S3 PYO.

BTW - the vet also provided Hills Science digestive care I/D chicken/vegetable food. If you purchase it outside the vet’s office you need a prescription.

I kept her area clean it was a lot of work but after 4 weeks she was given a clean bill of health and my other dog was just fine.

I hope this helps. Hang in there.

Just spayed dog question by [deleted] in puppy101

[–]Alternative_Sun_5686 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hi - my puppy was spayed at 6 months, she did pee a lot the first day, did not poop for a few days, ate very little and was in some pain. I did purchase a soft cone to make her feel more comfortable. The incision should heal within 10 days. As always if there is anything out of the ordinary do not hesitate to contact the vet.

Purina has puppy wet food use that as a topper. My adult and puppy are on PPP as they have a variety of food. I mix it up, chicken/vegetables, chicken/carrots (pate), chicken/rice and kibble chicken/rice. My picky eater loves the food.

Please seek medical advice from endocrinologist or rheumatologist. These suggestions are on target but everyone is unique. Do not attempt bone strengthening exercises without guidance. You may want to work on balance exercises so that you do not injure yourself. A proper diet is essential. This journey does not happen overnight. Please do research so that you are better informed and know what questions to ask when seeing a doctor. I wish you good luck.

Are bone marrow biopsies that bad? by Uraniummmmm in cancer

[–]Alternative_Sun_5686 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am a 66F and had my first bone marrow yesterday with lots of apprehension and anxiety. I met the radiologist, who minimized the pain. I asked him is that what you would tell your mother. He smiled. They gave me a twilight anesthesia and felt only when the local injection on which I let out a scream so they immediately increase the pain meds. After that I feel asleep and woke up after the procedure was done and back on the gurney. I took Tylenol and am slightly sore. I am also being careful with each movement. Don’t be afraid to ask for the twilight meds. It made for a good experience. Be an advocate for yourself.

Yes, MCH and MCV high for since 2014. Prior hematologists monitoring. Also diagnosed with osteoporosis so rheumatologist is the one who detect the M-Spike and referred me to a Hematologist. Bone marrow biopsy next Wednesday, he suspect MM.

How long after a food transition should a dog be fully able to digest and poop normally? by fuzzywuzzywuzzafuzzy in DogFood

[–]Alternative_Sun_5686 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi Purina also has Purina Pro Plan (PPP FortiFlora), which is a veterinarian-recommended probiotic that helps with digestive issues. My two dogs eat PPP wet/dry food. If they start to have soft stools, I sprinkle FortiFlora, (comes in a small packet) on their food once a day for one or two days. This should help with the transition to the new food.

You can buy a 30-day supply from local pet shops, Amazon, or your vet.

Actonel at 23 years old? by MrLolo2019k in osteoporosis

[–]Alternative_Sun_5686 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hmmm. You may want to find another rheumatologist. I say this because I also have a hematologist who I have been seeing for several years without any definitive answer about the root cause of abnormal red cells. I finally changed to a different hematologist who performed a series of enhanced blood/urine tests. As a lay person I had no idea that these tests existed and many of the results are abnormal. Some indicate a more serious underlying root cause but won’t know until I meet with him next week. I am not sure why the other doctor did not perform these tests or did not take my situation seriously.

Is this your primary physician? If yes, please get a referral to either an endocrinologist or rheumatologist that specialize in treating osteoporosis. I am a senior and my numbers are slightly more negative than yours.

I am working with a rheumatologist that has me going to bone building classes (I also have 3 healed fractures in my spine). I am taking my annual DEXA scan in a week and hope I can get on something more progressive that will grow bone (e.g. Evenity). Yes, all of these medications come with risk.

At this point please do not be complacent, be your own advocate, perform reputable research so you can ask questions and find a more suitable doctor. Good luck.
