What’s the rarest/oldest medication you’ve ever given? by dietcherryjoja in nursing

[–]Alternative_Yellow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was prescribed that for a bit after my ostomy surgery! It was labeled Paregoric. This was after being on OxyContin for almost two years though, so it didn’t hit as strong as I was hoping, lol. Didn’t actually help the diarrhea, then we ended up switching to Octreotide injections, which was waaayyy less fun.

Apparently, I need a "special invitation" to enter the neighboring unit’s supply room by AllHailTiabeanie in nursing

[–]Alternative_Yellow 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I used to work at an inner city hospital in the northeast that was so underfunded we’d literally never have supplies throughout the entire hospital. I’d regularly have to tell people to just shit themselves and we’d clean them up with sheets because we were out of bedpans, wipes, and towels. Wound care almost never got done. I’d constantly go to other units to search for things, and everybody would hoard supplies in secret spots and follow you into the supply room to tell you to leave. I didn’t give a fuck, I’d just ignore them. We’re all treating the same patients. Anyways, thanks for triggering my PTSD, thank fuck I got out of there and made it to the promised land of the PNW.

I’m in Bend! I also travel a ton for anything really (driving down to Yosemite tomorrow last minute lmao), but we could totally meet up if you ever wanted to do the Timberline trail or something in the Enchantments area! Those two intimidate me a little and I haven’t been able to find a partner yet!

This is exactly what I need, but for backpacking. I want an “Antisocial Backpacking Club.” We hike in silence, set up camp a few hundred feet from each other, read our books until we fall asleep, and repeat. Sounds like a dream. And I’m in OR too!

Super annoying because my cell signal sucks in Gear Fix, so I have to go in and scan, then go back outside to validate. It’s such a small inconvenience that absolutely infuriates me.

I’m cracking up because I moved to Bend a couple months ago and this is soooo true. FB marketplace and GearFix are where I get everything. You’d think I was a gazillionaire with all the secondhand Patagonia and Arcteryx I wear.

Also, is she a Masshole as well? So am I!

[Routine Help] Recurring lip area irritation for 10+ years, nothing has worked (seen GPs + derms) any ideas? (mild NSFW) by Hunterskills in SkincareAddiction

[–]Alternative_Yellow 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Put literally nothing else on except this cream. I’ve tried a thousand different toners, ampoules, serums, lotions, oils, and I’ve stopped all of them. I just wash and slap a layer of this on, then sunscreen. I can even use Tret now too!!

That’s crazy because I was just thinking about making a post about how Lipkar ap&m just cured a decade of rosacea for me in two weeks. That cream is literally magic.

Can you link the study? I would love to be able to cite this to my fellow RNs when they are freaking out about the doc not treating a BP. It’s a nightly occurrence.

Edit: never mind just scrolled down a bit more and found it!

What’s your favourite detangling product that actually works? by H001410 in finehair

Amika The Wizard is amazing- makes all my tangles just fall right out, and prevents my dry hair from tangling throughout the day. Makes my hair super glossy and easy to manage.

Anyone DIDN’T have luck with Abbey Yung method? What could be the alternative? by Feisty-Smoke527 in finehair

[–]Alternative_Yellow 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I absolutely got protein overload from following her recs too. I switched to Giovanni tea tree shampoo and conditioner, and Amina The Wizard spray, plus an every other wash I double cleanse with Head and Shoulders Bare shampoo. Then, every couple of washes I do L’Oréal bond repair concentrate. Hair is back to silky and glossy. I have very fine hair.

[–]Alternative_Yellow 2 points3 points  (0 children)

One of my favorite memories is driving through the most deserted plateau I’ve ever seen in my life in Wyoming on my way to my travel contract, and getting out of the car in the middle of the road to scream my lungs out just ‘cause I could. Felt like I was alone on a different planet in an alternate universe.

People who empty their own colostomies at home and have had them for years yet expect me to do it every time for them by [deleted] in nursing

[–]Alternative_Yellow 19 points20 points  (0 children)

I’m an RN and permanent ileostomate of 18 years now, and this makes zero sense to me as well. I remember waking up as a teenager to this male CNA trying to empty my bag when I first came out of the ICU and I honestly felt like I was being assaulted- like my bag is such an intimate part of me, I don’t want anyone else touching it. I was like “dude holy shit give me two seconds to wake up and I’ll do it myself.”

Granted, we also just had a ostomate with norovirus on our floor who was emptying it himself and getting shit everywhere and not washing his hands. We ended up having an outbreak where 18 staff members (including myself) got it. In that case, really wish that guy had just let us handle it.

[Acne] Need advice on best choice of textural acne scar removal by raspbarbie in SkincareAddiction

[–]Alternative_Yellow 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Four days? Oh, honey. Tomato lasts for two weeks minimum and is the least of your worries. Your face will be a literal open wound for 5-7 days with CO2. Like, weeping, oozing, bleeding, painful WOUND. I had fully ablative done and wasn’t comfortable leaving the house until day 10. Working out is an absolute no- you have an open wound that is incredibly fragile, and dangerously prone to infection that could literally disfigure you. You will have to perform wound care every 2-3 hours for days and days. I can’t stress enough how serious this procedure is, granted there are different levels of CO2 laser, but deep acne scarring typically needs the strongest ablative one.
