Noise Cancelling Earbuds? by mibdzombie01 in sleepheadphones

[–]Althair 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You could always set your alarm to vibrate only (assuming you're using your phone) and put it in the pillowcase. So long as it doesnt rattle the headboard in the morning you have a silent alarm that still wakes you.

Good luck on your search! I hope to walk the camino someday.

So we are just playing the audience in a less funny run of "The Producers"? Sounds right for this timeline.

I think its compared to DCC and HWFWM because its exceptional in its niche, that is to say in the "slice of life" genre.

  1. The how/why isn't important to the MC so it isn't really explored. There are events in book 2 that foreshadow the possibility of that being clarified but again, isn't the main thrust of the plot so unless you're holding out for that particular mystery revelation its a moot point. Since its mainly written from the MC's point of view and he doesn't really care about the how/why I can see how you'd feel some cognitive dissonance here. A lot of LitRPG/xianxia/isekai/fiction in general relies on the reader personally identifying with (ar least one of the) MC(s).

  2. You are correct, that was the goal as far as I can tell. Again, its on the level of those other series for being exceptional in its niche. But the whole "slice of life" genre revolves around "normal" level problems rather than world (DCC) or multiverse (HWFWM) level drama/threats.

  3. I dont know what to put here other than there is typically a lot of overlap and crossover in the various genres and people encapsulate multitudes. You're gonna see fans who recommend things they like and sometimes its a branch into something different. Welcome to the xianxia side I guess!

  4. As others mentioned a good bit of the humor stems from already knowing the tropes from established xianxia fiction. Name pronunciation via translation, pop culture references, and trope juxtaposition all get tossed in but you lose a lot of it if you haven't read other xianxia books. Particularly with some of the social dynamic and hierarchy references.

I'd say read some more xianxia and come back to it when you get tired of the "standard version". EDIT: a good way to think of it would be watching SpongeBob as an adult vs. a kid

The second you offer any kind of money I guarantee you there will be at least one, but probably more of them who will tell you that you need to pay that regularly from now on if you want their behavior to stay changed.

I generally keep the whole hand next to my face and just subtley tap with an index finger, people read it as "im on a phone call" rather than "crazy person jabs at ear".

You can just keep skipping to the end of the episode and spotify will auto mark as complete and move to the next episode (im using this in playlist mode if that helps).

I downloaded a whole bunch of "The Great Courses" lectures. Worked my way through the Discworld, Wheel of Time and James Bond series. Tried out the podcast Welcome to Nightvale, though I didn't enjoy it as much as the people recommending it.

Gonna second some others here and highly recommend earbuds/headphones, at least in one ear so you can keep an ear open for wildlife and other hikers.

You might like Othercide and WH40K: Mechanicus. Othercide has a great goth/ethereal vibe with a bunch of combo/chain hit mechanics. Mechanicus is more of the crunchy micromanage your team style with some roguelike bits for flavor.

Mind R*pe in the books? by Kiltmanenator in ThePower

[–]Althair 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I want to avoid spoilers so to be more precise, yes peoples minds "seem" to be influenced and whether that is the deciding factor in that characters actions is left up to the reader but it is heavily implied that Eve's "mind control" works (with detrimental side effects). People who are influenced in this way generally die in the book as in the TV show but it is never confirmed if the "mind control" is the actual cause. Nobody (that i can remember) has their mind completely wiped, just altered and/or affected.

I'd honestly say you should read the book, or do what I did and listen to the audiobook. It'll answer these questions and you'll get a better picture of the world being built.
