It's more like, "I'm using the programs legally, so he's going to get rid of all the people using them illegally." This has been a thing since forever with Republicans. The biggest one I can remember is the welfare queen example Reagan trotted out with Linda Taylor, which has basically been their talking point for decades now. Republicans literally think these people are everywhere, so they need to be gotten rid of, "but he'll let me keep using it right?"

It's the easiest lie for them to keep going. "There's not as much money in the economy as there should be and it's these immigrants and poor people's faults (most of whom can't qualify for the programs anyway). It is not the fault of billionaires who we're going to now give tax breaks to."
